I just took a job working for Qwest. I don't like getting up early. I don't like working 50 hours a week.
That being said, I'm 23 now and need to get my shit together and they are going to pay alot of the money for me to finish the last two years of my computer science degree. Full coverage after a few months of working there, and I'm getting a raise from around the poverty line (I've been lazy) to what many would consider middle class. Almost a 600% raise in my yearly income.
I don't want to sit in a chair all day and talk people into signing up, I'd rather be working with my hands personally, but it's not a bad job and the things that come along with it are well worth it. Like I said, if you want it bad enough, it's not hard to make it happen.
Just because you say its a great example does not make it a great example. First off, i have a problem with someone that is 27 and a waitress. Second, i have a problem with a waitress that can't pull together a couple of hundred bucks a month. Maybe its 400 for some, but i am pretty sure you can get basic healtcoverage for less.
I just don't understand why i have to pay for the health coverage of a 27 year old girl who was not previously disabled.

You have a problem with a 27 year old being a waitress. Who do you want doing this job and do you really thing basic insurance would do much for her?
Who's talking about you're having to pick up the tab on other people's insurance? Socialized medicine isn't the only answer. People abusing the system is the biggest problem.

Yeah, i have a problem with a 27 year old being a waitress and then asking for free healthcare. (and no, i know your friend wasn't).
So you feel that you have a job that anyone else in this country can do?
:lolBIG: So you want no waiters or waitress in the world.
How do you feel about farmers? They're just getting by as it is now.
So you feel that you have a job that anyone else in this country can do?
orrections officer, court reporter, mailman, garbage man etc... I am sure your waitress friend is smart enough to deliver/sort mail. Maybe it would be boring but it would pay the bills.
And most waitresses i have known have made more than enough to pay for healthcare.
How do you do it ? Can't imagine paying $50,000+ or more for tests or surgery that I may need.
There are plenty.
But the real issue is whether we should support people who make bad life decisions and are waiting tables either 10 years after graduating high school or 6 years after graduating college. I say no, you say yes.
Fine. Lets say we all go with your example and take whatever job has health insurance. What percentage of business in this country would no longer exist because no one's working for them?
In your world, restaurants no longer exist for one. What other businesses would be wiped away?
Your working under the assumption that there is a god/constitutionally given right to work in or own a restaurant AND at the same time have health coverage. There simply isnt.
There are restaurants open today. They make money. Certain employees are forced to work there because they screwed up in life and can't get jobs that have healthcare.
For those people, i say tough shit.

That's how you see it??? You really should be a head hunter for a living and get all these "fuck ups" jobs. It's just that easy.
So someone who's working in a restaurant so they could go to school at night, what do you tell them? "No health care till you're done with college!"
