I'm self employed and pay my own insurance. $155 a month. My cell phone and EVDO card from Sprint costs $115 a month.

What? I am 27 and in perfect health and I got to pay $450 a month for blue cross and that doesn't even cover dental.

Also, I don't know why Primetime thinks these government jobs with health insurance are so easy to come by. Here in MA they are not, you can't just walk into the Post Office with your high school diploma and get a job. You get put on a list longer than John Holmes, and anyone with any connections passes right by you.

I'm 28 and in perfect health, and only pay $155. You're getting ripped off.

There's no way you have any real coverage for $155 a month on your own. It has to be one of those Aetna plans that cover you for $50,000.

I guarantee you that at $155, he is only paying half and his employer is paying the other half.

Who cares anyway? Did you read my post/thread "The US Healthcare System"? He might as well keep his $155.

Isn't it true in Canada, the amount a doctor get paid is capped per year and whenever that cap is reached some clinics hang up a gone fishing sign and take 3 months or so off?

Until I start seeing more lepers and sick folk dying in the streets, I have to believe health care is too cheap and abundant.

No, they work on a fee for service basis negotiated with the Provincial Government.

Some real problems with health insurance are the $ cap value, the loss of insurance derived from your work when sick and you get laid off, and the presence of administrators who exist to deny you certain treatment.

I've no idea what my medical treatment costs but suspect this year in the US it would be in the range of $50,000 - $100,000. If I was insured I'm sure my treatment would be delayed until I show further deterioration whereas in Canada I've been able to schedule treatment at an appropriate time that suits my schedule.

While the US has the best medical care in the world it lacks universal availability and has a horrendous 30% cost for administration.

never fear though, when some country attacks you or you have a natural disaster you can still count on America to come help you out and our taxpayers will foot the bill and the entire world will be pissed off

Funny, I don't recall either of these ever occurring up here in Canada, with the US coming to the rescue. No offense, you understand. Just hasn't happened.
