I saw Luis Gonzales at Paradise Valley mall. He was there promoting something. He was the nicest guy you could ever meet. He brought his wife and 3 kids along. He signed everyone's autograph and showed a personal interest in anyone who would talk to him.

Special Team scrub Mark Pike was an arrogant jerk.

Starting Guard Jim Ritcher was the most humble, most friendly athlete that I've ever seen.

Quantum,
I've always heard Luis Gonzalez was the nicest guy in baseball. Glad to hear someone confirm it.

I've met many Orioles and other players while out drinking.
Nicest ones: Arthur Rhodes, Norm Charlton, Lee Smith
Biggest jerk: Rafael Palmeiro

Other nice guys: Jonathan Ogden, Brett Saberhagen (he banged my wife's friend that night), Derek Lowe, Bill Hasselman

I was fortunate enough to live with Khalid Reeves and Ben Davis when I went to school in Arizona. Both went pro and were a pleasure to be around.

Jim Palmer signed an autograph for me when I was 12. I approached his table in Park City Utah and he stopped his conversation to hook me up.

Finally, I met my favorite athlete, Bernie Parent when I was6.He took several pictures with me and signed a hockey stick.

I guess it all depends on how and when you approach an athlete.

Most have been cool.

This might be hard to believe, but when Canseco played for the Newark Bears, he used to go to a local go-go bar. I was a regular there. He wasn't a bad guy at all. But the girls did say he was cheap.

Met Barry Bonds at The Galleria in Houston, when SF was in town to play Houston. We were in Brookstone.

Just said, "Hi, how are you doing today?" ... No response ... Then I asked, can you tell me what time the game is tonight? He said I don't know and walked away.

I bet if I would have said. "I have some steroids for you," I would have probably gotten a response.

hey, go easy on barry. he is black and you're not. you can't possibly understand how tough he has had it...what with the God-given talent to earn $10 million a year to play a kid's game. he lives in the real world, not some fantasy world like you do.

Have had the privilege to come across many boxers in my work and have some thoughts:

Butterbean was the biggest prick I ever encountered. He thought I'd kiss his ass and give him whatever he wanted. Actually almost came to blows with him when I told him "you better calm down or I'll get Mitchell Rose over here".

Leon Spinks was a complete jackass. We brought him in to sing autographs and he got so drunk he was puking on himself the night before. Then the next day, the hotel owner (George Maloof) went up and introduced himself and asked if there was anything he could get him, Leon said, "yeah, a Miller lite pal".

Rocky Gannon was the nicest classiest guy I met. His eyes lit up when I said "hey champ" and he stopped and talked about his fights and fighting for like 20 minutes with me.

Terry Norris is another really nice guy. I feel sorry for him because he has dementia but he was always a class act with me.

Wayne "Pocket Rocket" McCullough and his wife are great people. A real class Irish lad.

Larry Holmes is a riot and a smart guy. Dealt blackjack to him years ago the night before he fought McCall and he had us cracking up.

James Toney is another guy I liked. He has a thuggish posse, but he would pose for pics with kids and be friendly to everyone.

I ate next to Tigers Woods a few years ago in Vegas at P.F. Changs. He was there with a large party, including Gabrielle Reese. People kept walking up to him asking for autographs and he said he would after dinner. Of course after dinner, he high-tailed it out and left people high and dry. I guess it would be a pain to have people interrupting your dinner and friends.

Best: Tom Landry My sister married a guy that was friends of Tom Jr. and Lisa Landry. Tom hosted a party for them at a restaurant before they got married. I was a freshman football player and my brother was a senior. Tom talked about football and took pictures and was very nice. He even said he would look for us in the up coming years ....maybe for the Cowboys. :103631605

I would never get an autograph from any of them. I will just act normal and say hello.

I did shake Pete Rose's hand during the SB at Caesar's. He was standing at the next table over while I was playing blackjack. He shook my hand and had this strange look on his face like : do I know this guy ? and why am I shaking his hand. It was quite amusing.

I saw Randy White (Dallas Cowboy) on a flight to Vegas awhile back. He seemed very nice, and I always hear he is nice and will talk alot. He still is the "Manster"......looks in playing shape. He didn't have a suitcase with wheels, just a large saddlebag thrown over his shoulder. It looked very fitting for an ole' defensive tackle.

I am sorry for using the "R" word - and NOTHING EL

Cool: Wayne Gretzky (first time i got him to sign something he was coming out of "Fritz's" adult club by anaheim stadium - i basically ambushed him - and he signed), Joe Sakic (when he first came up - later turned into an a**hole), Mark Kotsay/Phil Nevin/Tim Wallach/Cedric Ceballos (at least for me - they will sign ANYTHING as long as i have something Cal State Fullerton on), Teemu Selanne (one of the all-time coolest guys ever!), just about every NHL guy - especially the "goons" (the "goons" are almost ALWAYS the coolest guys on any team to deal with), Mario Lemieux, Jack Nicklaus, Chi Chi Rodriguez (ALWAYS signs for the kids first - but will sign forever - and talk to the fans - and is SUPER cool!), agree on others brought up already - Tom Glavine and Chris Chelio (who does NOT sign cards - he only does that for charity), David Wells was cool to deal with, Joe Theismann, Tom Jackson, Michael Irvin, Eric Lindros, Vin Scully, Ernie Harwell, Fernando Valenzuela, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Jerru Rice, Rod Woodson, Peyton Manning, Jack Ham, Jim Kelly, Sean Salisbury, Denis Ptovin, Rogie Vachon, Dave Taylor, Luc Robitaille (a HOF NHL guy and even a bigger HOF off the ice - EASILY one of the all-time nicest guys you will EVER want to meet), Brooks Robinson (of all of the "old timers" he is the EASIEST guy to get stuff signed by - he will sign until his arm falls off - he is that nice and cool!), Dr. J, (Former NBA #1 overall pick - and current Lakers' B-caster) Mychal Thompson (will sign ANYTHING!), John Elway (will sign ONE item - no problem), Tim Salmon, Dennis Eckersley (when he played at the angels - he would go on a run out the ball part of the stadium about 2 hours before the game and when he came back 45 minutes later would sign one item for everyone there), Jackie Slater

A**holes: Emmitt Smith, A-Rod (at times), Paul Kariya, Tony Gwynn (Gwynn is Asst Coach for SDSU baseball - they are playing at Irvine - a friend and i approach him - JUST THE 2 of us - and politely ask him to sign something - and he barely acknowledged us - and wouldn't take 5 seconds to sign something for us - what a prick), Mark Messier, David Letterman, Magic Johnson, Bob Uecker, Patrick Roy, Keyshawn Johnson (told us "I only sign for my people" - imagine if John Rocker had said that - imagine the outrage there), Bobby Knight, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Karl Malone (i reffed his daugher's youth hoops game - and afterwards a few kids asked him to sign stuff - and he stiffed them all - saying "This isn't the time or place to do that!"), Troy Glaus (a 1st class ******** to deal with), Mark McGwire (see Glaus and Malone),

2 HOF A**holes:

A.) Rod Carew - if it had been HIM who needed the blood transfusion to save his life - NO ONE would have come forward - he is one of the all-time biggest a**holes who has ever walked the planet

b.) Marcus Allen - and he is bigger than Carew - who will at least sign every now and then. some of us see Allen at the 2000 Pro Bowl. he is there to do stuff - so we see him - and ask for his autograph - nicely! NO - he won't do it - but he will take a pic with us. BIG F*****G DEAL! i have seen him a few times since and after being turned down one more time i (and those around me) don't even bother him - which i guess is what he wants. i am 1005 serious here - if he were drowning and asked me to save him, i would simply tell him, "Sorry, I don't sign autographs" and walk away and let him drown - knowing by me letting him die i did the planet a HUGE favor and got rid of a major league prick!
