to answer the original question I think our purpose is to be custodians of the earth and keep it a place where life can flourish... We are failing at this

Why should we care what shape we leave the earth in if life in and of itself is without a greater purpose...

Wouldn't life itself be useless for us and all that follow, so who cares if they exist?

I'm here to try and experience all I can..Doesn't have to be a purpose as far as I can figure

What about the people who want to "experience" being a mass murderer or serial killer? Is there life "fulfilled" because of their "experiences"?

Is each persons "experiences" based on their own selfish infatuations and ideals or is their a code of ethics that one must abide by?

Gyno, I think if you live your life without motivation, a purpose or dreams then you might as well just die. As humans, we should all strive to be the best we can.

I'm not in the Army.

I know it's hard to believe for most of you guys here but most of the U.S. Military is cutting a significant amount of people right now and getting in and succeeding is harder than ever. I don't understand the misconception that all we employ are misfits of society. This is the most educated force the U.S. Military has ever fielded.

Where I'm at in my career right now took extremely hard work including a lot of training and schooling and a ton of sacrifice. You can mock me all you want Doug but at the end of my career, I will hold my head high knowing I gave it a go to help others and lead young people and that feels pretty good.

Which you yourself has personally stated that you have yet to come to your own conclusion...

Interesting.

You don't know why you are here and I'm sure you are well into your 30's, yet you expect your children to find the answer own their own merit...

Yeah, I expect them to critically think on their own. They are not robots and it's not my job to put into their brains what they should/should not believe in. They are individuals and can make their own decisions. They don't ever need to believe what I believe and I don't expect them to.

Why is this hard to understand?

So your children can burp and fart at the table when they are in public eating?

So your children can cuss out their teachers in school?

So your children can piss in the school water fountain?

If your answers to all of this is "Yes" then I guess you are telling the truth and your kids can "make their own decisions". If it is "No", then I guess you are only fooling yourself. Of course you tell your kids what they can and can not think and do on a daily basis! It is what a parent is supposed to do!

The thread is not about what I think others should feel or do......let them express their own viewpoint ....Just gave my thoughts....

So are you saying that you are living your life in a way that you would not advise others to mimic?

If so, why are you living it this way?

To better our planet, to help people, to be Eco friendly and save the environment, to be giving, to drive supercharged range rovers, to make (*win) as much $$$ as possible gambling, to bang strippers on coke binges...all of the things that make life worth living, obviously!

Re living your childhood?

Most people dont have to tell their children not to do those things.

Im pretty sure a kid can figure out for himself not to piss in a drinking fountain.

This post was all time dumb and not even correlated to the post you responded to.

If you are an atheist, there is no purpose to life. We are just DNA replicating across the universe.

Humans have always wondered about the meaning of life...life has no higher purpose than to perpetuate the survival of DNA...life has no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind pitiless indifference.--Richard Dawkins

What's funny is that in this thread alone, five other posters have said the exact same thing as me. Same feelings and same thoughts and opinions on this specific topic yet you choose to come and attack my one post. Why is that?

It's not like what I'm saying is so far out there that nobody else in the world believes in the same thing.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

Not even close to being related to the topic at hand.

I think teaching a child where to go to the bathroom and critical thinking to form their own opinion on a given topic are pretty far apart but what the hell do I know anyway?
