It is meaningless. Think that guy that got swallowed up by a sink hole knew or even gave fuck if life has any meaning. Maybe he cared more than all of us. It didn't matter. He had no fuckin say in the matter except for aaahhhhh!!!
The great thing about it everybody is going to get their turn.
So the thing for me is to do for myself now what absolutley no one can do for me later.Live.

What was it like before you were born? Same thing.

I don't know. I ain't saying I have the answer. I would say I am agnostic. What about those people who have had near death experiences and did see stuff? Are they all lying?

If someone does not have a purpose, does that make ones life meaningless?

That's a good question.

But if there's nothing after this, then it IS all meaningless.

It doesn't matter what we do to be remembered as a good person who did good things and/or made accomplishments, because after a while it's all forgotten anyhow.

We all want to be remembered.

But once the generation of your kids, and then grandchildren pass, then we are all just an afterthought and 100 years later it's as if we were never even here.

If there's nothing after this then we're all just being teased for a while and it's no more than one big cruel joke...

I don't think they're lying but it's not proof of anything in my opinion. It's a subjective experience so you have to take it with a grain of salt. Also there are more people who don't have near death experiences than people who do.

I can't believe that this is just it. It just goes dark one day? I ain't sure what will happen but there has to be something.

Not being able to face that possibility is what gives rise to religion.

sure but most people who die, just die. I don't know what the percentage is but those that technically die and get revived do mention the light and and other things.

I guess we will all know eventually. Or don't know you could say.

I think as far as evolution of species in concerned humanity as it known on earth is probably one of the lower beings in the universe. Look at how we treat each other and this planet. We don't have the faintest clue of technology. Nuclear weapons? Submarines? I phones? It's a joke. We as a people cannot travel even the smallest speck of distance in the Universe. And we probably shouldn't either if we could: we would encounter civilizations way more advanced than ours..

to answer the original question I think our purpose is to be custodians of the earth and keep it a place where life can flourish... We are failing at this

Excellent observation, especially the part about humanity as it known on earth being one of the lower beings in the universe.

Most of the time we give ourselves to much credit.

Agnostic is far different than atheist...and Most atheists have an adgenda attached.. (hatred of 'conservatives' , left brain thinkers, etc)

Very trendy to be atheist nowadays..agnostic would require these adgenda-driven people to step back and examine their self righteous egos

I know a lot of conservatives who are atheists. In fact, there are several who post here that fit that description.

I don't know. Thus my agnostic status. I have heard that before and it make a guy think.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet...

Why does there have to be a purpose?

Gyno, I think if you live your life without motivation, a purpose or dreams then you might as well just die. As humans, we should all strive to be the best we can.

I think the best approach is to let kids explore the possibilities themselves and come to their own conclusions.

Which you yourself has personally stated that you have yet to come to your own conclusion...

Interesting.

You don't know why you are here and I'm sure you are well into your 30's, yet you expect your children to find the answer own their own merit...
