What is our purpose on earth?

I feel like that within the scheme of the universe we have no purpose, we are just here.
(If we do have a purpose it is likely beyond the scope of anything we can comprehend)

That is too depressing for most people, so we come up with reasons, some tie it too a god,doing good, or whatever.
So our purpose is whatever makes sense to YOU.

For me it is to enjoy the time that I have and to discover and share all the great things about life.

... to experience, learn and evolve. some examples ... experience = pain, agony, love and loss. learn = forgiveness, altruism, mercy. evolve = live what you've learned and teach others.

From what I've heard, Jesus was a good teacher. Highly evolved. Would have liked to have known him.

I am not religious at all. But I am spiritual. I always maintain an open mind and never claim to have the "answers". My belief system makes sense of the world and my place in it. Nothing to fear in the end, just self evaluation and evolution. However long it takes.

One thing that always freaks me out is the concept of eternity. Being conscious and aware forevermore in some state or some capacity. If I am going to be around for eternity, it's nice to know I'll have times in my existence (like this life) when I am a self absorbed student that has forgotten how long eternity really is.

For those who believe it's one and done. Lights out, nothing more. It's cool. The world will keeping spinning if someone doesn't share my beliefs.

I just want to say we are not just another living thing.... we are so much more advanced that I do not think we can be compared. ... technology is amazing....we are land creatures that can explore the bottom of the ocean, sail over bodies of water, fly around the world, travel to space.

I think as far as evolution of species in concerned humanity as it known on earth is probably one of the lower beings in the universe. Look at how we treat each other and this planet. We don't have the faintest clue of technology. Nuclear weapons? Submarines? I phones? It's a joke. We as a people cannot travel even the smallest speck of distance in the Universe. And we probably shouldn't either if we could: we would encounter civilizations way more advanced than ours..


to answer the original question I think our purpose is to be custodians of the earth and keep it a place where life can flourish... We are failing at this
