I've really made it a priority this year to stay active, felt like I spent all of 2011 sitting around on TheRX, watching sports, and tracking line movement on SportsOptions...

So far I've started golfing, but it's been hard to find other people interested, who don't mind my beginner status.

I've been playing tennis weekly, but really was trying to play a 3 times a week. My wife likes to play, but she is just so bad that is boring for me, plus its very little exercise playing with her... She likes to go hiking once a week, I live close to the Appalachian mountains so plenty of trails near by. But I found that boring and pointless.

I find it hard for both us to do things together that are active.

We FINALLLYYY have a 24 hour gym so i've been going to that after working my shift here if I didn't do anything active that day. I've been surprised how much I've enjoyed that.

I hope it takes some of this weight off but I've definitely enjoyed getting out more. And thus far my handicapping has not been affected.

Currently "being active" means getting up and walking to the fridge or onto the terrace....
But looks like I'll be moving back to Brazil again next week and if I can rent the place I'm interested in, there will be a basketball court outside and a gym in the building, so will def. be more active again. Although it will probably be just me shooting some hoops, so not really that much exercise involved in that case...Also thinking about buying a MTB and do some biking (and also running) again.

1 word. CrossFit.
imo so much better then going to a typical gym and doing the same old weight machines that everyone does. I got so tired of going to the gym and watching all the guys walking around with their imaginary lats. crossfit is total fitness and finally its becomming more mainstream.

it's also a good way to overtrain, with most of the workouts it provides. don't get me wrong, some of it is nice and i've put clients through hell and back with it. i also tweaked it a lot. if you want to get active, go exercise. use it as prevention, otherwise you'll be heading to a wellness facility everyday just to maintain normal function.

Never tried this, have a course about 15 min from my house. Maybe I'll check it out if I can get a couple guys to go with me.

we have multiple courses around my house too. went to the used sports store and bought the 2 basic disc I needed but never went out and played.

Depending on the season, and where I'm staying... I do a lot of swimming .
IMO! It's great to stay fit.

Looting TVs. Try running 3 blocks with an 80 inch TV on your back.

I don't know what to tell you except I've been doing it for years and have never had a problem. Do you need to know what youre doing, umm yes. Are some of the workouts insanely hard, yes again. But I've never been in better shape in my life and I played college sports. I get what youre saying to an extent. Youre doing alot of olympic weight lifting movements and for high reps and as fast as possible sometimes. obviously, when you do that you need to be careful not to let your technique suffer or you can get hurt.
I get it, its simply to hard for alot of people so they say oh i dont like it. or it doesn't work. But when done correctly you'll be in better shape without question. Sure, there are other ways to get in shape but this works for me. And i like the fact that most of the time my workout is done in 20 minutes or less. I don't have the time nor the desire to spend 2 hours in a gym.

different things work for different people. most people have no idea what they're doing. it's hard to watch lol. if you know how to prevent injury and overtraining, sure it can be a great workout. and if someone spends 2 hours in a gym, they're not doing it right.

If you want something that's going to last try something not too rigorous or you will eventually get burned out. I walk 3 to 4 times a week for 15 - 20 minutes per walk. I've been doing that in all kinds of weather since 1989. It's a good way to unwind from the day's work.

I feel if crossfit gets people off the couch then so be it but I personally think it's a joke.

Every crossfit cult member I talk to is injured or has scabs and blisters all over their hands and legs. There's not one reason for a person to do repetitions as fast as they can. There simply is no reason to do that. Fast repetitions are not working the muscle group period. It's funny, last year where I worked out they were doing crossfit each day and each instructor was overweight. That was the running joke.

One of the funnier things I've read on this forum.

Typical American. No reason to move fast, except to actually become stronger and faster. No wonder the US is going to get smoked by the Commies at the London Olympics in a few months
