Nirvana = Everywhere you looked from the end of '92 to sometime in '96 teens and young adults were infatuated with this band. It drove me nuts. I guess because i was so into hard rock and heavy metal the old way. The sound killed party anthems and rock from Springsteen to glam to speed. I was against the new sound so much at the time. I have adjusted now but back than it was such a huge shock. I still can't believe what it did to the music world. Today's music is virtually all copycats of what has come before in my opinion. I just can't even get into it.

KISS is the most mentioned band on this thread...

Oops. I was between a couple of threads and didn't search enough.

I'll stand by my Billy Joel pick. Must be an East coast thing.

Now Unless you just don't care for Billy Joel's Music. or You are Smoking something Real Good !....Overrated ???

William Joseph Martin "Billy" Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter. He released his first hit song, "Piano Man", in 1973. According to the RIAA, he is the sixth best-selling recording artist in the United States.[1]
Joel (the coolest man in the world) had Top 10 hits in the '70s, '80s, and '90s; is a six-time Grammy Award winner; and has sold in excess of 150 million albums worldwide.[2] He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (Class of 1992), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Class of 1999), and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (Class of 2006). Joel "retired" from recording pop music in 1993 but continued to tour (sometimes with Elton John). In 2001 he subsequently released Fantasies & Delusions, a CD of classical compositions for piano. In 2007 he returned to recording with a single entitled "All My Life", followed by an extensive "World Tour" from 2005-2008, covering many of the major world cities.

I was a trombonist for 20 years, I saw Billy Joel speak at Towne Hall, dude knows 500 years of theory. The man is a genius.

Do you realize how ignorant and arrogant you sound?

Festering Zit deems an entire genre of music overrated. :lolBIG:

Indeed I do, and I stand by my statement 100%.

Actually, I don't even think you can call it music, music denotes
an actual melody.

u2?? What are you smoking? Name another band that has over 3 separate decades made both critically acclaimed and top selling albums?
Then add to that several ground breaking technological tours that influenced many other acts and consistently grossed in the top 10 of all time. How is that overated? You may not like the music but you have to respect the accomplishments and can no way so they are overated.

BTW, they are in the studio finishing up another album that is expected to be a ground breaking musical direction similiar in context to Joshua Tree and Acthung Baby.

I'd like Bono better if he wasn't such an arrogant prick.

beatles by far as the most overrated. the old rolling stones songs have a lot of blues influence. i can still listen to them today and they hold up well.
as for the beatles, esp. mccartney influenced songs, sappy pop,i.e. i wanna hold your hand

Much of the Beatles hold up too. Not too many sappy songs on Revolver - the album that changed their direction.
