Right only because he doesn't need to go and play week in week out.. So he will never dominate the PGA ever.

Over the last 5 majors he has performed better than anybody, hence no one has dominated.

I'm no Tiger hater but I just think his glory days are over. Players now can outdrive him and He can't putt.He hasn't won a Major in 3 years now and it's going on 2 years since He's won any tourney. He's dropping out of the top 10. Of course fools will continue to make him a favorite but that only makes for some great wagering oppurtunities. You can feel free to bump this thread up when He wins one but I'm not too concerned about being embarrassed anytime soon.

On one hand I can understand what your saying, on the other hand the door is still wide open for him to dominate again. It's not like anybody is just tearing it up right now and dominating. The opportunity is still there for him if he can get his shit together. There is a pretty good golfer named jack that promised we will see the old tiger again just two days ago. I'm pretty sure this jack guy knows a hell of a lot more than any of us chumps in this forum.

Thought I'd add, by no means is tiger a short-knocker now. Just cause there are some guys hitting it further than him really means absolutely nothing.

Just a difference of opinion as to me the door is just barely open for him to dominate again. Why ? Let's start with his age. He's one of the oldest 35 year old golfers in History because He's been golfing since He's 3 years old. His life has been in total disarray since the Marriage fiasco in front of his house. He no longer can outhit his major competitors anymore. His putting sucks. His swing is a work in progress. His competition is not only getting very confident but they no longer fear him. There is no one person out there who dominates but for the last 3 years the field has pretty much had the best of Tiger as his fall to # 11 tells you Tiger certainly hasn't been dominating for quite some time now. Last but probably most important is his ongoing injury problems and surgeries.

Tiger will never dominate again. I am a huge Tiger fan, but like many of you have said, he is just getting to damn old. The golf talent is head and shoulders above when Arnie & Jack played, so it is tough to compare. I will put that statement against any argument you all might have. That being said, he will have to get to 19 to be called the greatest of all time. Period. I do think that all of us should sit back and enjoy b/c we may not ever see anyone as dominate for a long period of time as Tiger did. As a huge Phil fan (I am a Lefty also), name one player in history that has been good as Phil never to called "the best in the world". All the younger talent has probably passed Tiger, but I would not be at all surprised if Tiger wins at least 4 more majors.

@taylor13, you take a lot of heat for taking up for Tiger. As a follower of the sport, and a decent player myself (2 hdcp) I will say that I appreciate your knowledge of the game to know that we got to see greatness at its best. Probably won't ever see that again for a long, long time. Go Tiger.....get to 19 so these shit talkers can find someone else to belly-ache about. I for one have enjoyed seeing greatness and have no problem for him to continue that....even tho it will be really hard.

Just a comment as to your statement about Phil, Lee
Trevino was the one player who came to my mind who has never been called the " Best in the world " and We must remember that He won 6 Majors to Phil's 4 but He played when Jack was the dominate player yet.

You stick a fork in him, but odds are in any random round in a major he will be favored over any golfer you put out there, still. That is a fact.

The focus is on him, not on someone like Bubba who is gonna be 33 and had played in 12 majors - never won one - and cut 4 times. Just cut at TPC no one cares about this oldie who is an above average field guy: He hasn’t fared well on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. In four starts in THE PLAYERS, Watson has made the cut once (T37 in 2009) and broken par twice in 10 rounds (the low round being a first-round, 5-under-par 67 in 2009). Typical above average field guy. Tiger is still very young golf wise. Will play in at least 80
more majors, cut him some slack in the short term.

Tiger will play in another 80 Majors ? I'll take the under on that one ! As for him being favored over any golfer out there just means that the wagering public are stupid.

Same can be said for Gary Player. He won 9 majors in his day, but because he played in the Nicklaus era, didn't get near the recognition as he would have today. If you take Tiger out of the picture, there really isn't anybody out there on the PGA Tour who has won more than 3 majors. Phil is the only one. And he just has 4. Jack Nicklaus played against some pretty special players. Floyd, Trevino, Watson (8 majors), Player, Palmer (7 majors). And when you look at what Watson did in almost winning the British Open at 60, you know these guys were pretty good in their day.

The first one that came to my mind was Trevino because He was such a delight but you're correct about Player and some of the others. Lot's of great golfers during Jack's reign !

Jack played in majors until 65... That's 30 masters alone

I was being conservative, has more exemptions to these tourneys than anyone out there.

Tiger is not the same type of person as Jack. Besides how many Majors do you expect Tiger to win after He turns 45 ? I have some doubts whether He will ever win one now and He's 35 !

He is mentally unstable.
He will get pretty good again as soon as his Shrink gets him there.

Golf is a major mind game and his mind is lost(from a golf prespective)
Top of the mountain to the abyss, tough to take in such a short time.

Look at this field find the foreign players:

Crenshaw got 300 bucks for a weeks work:

http://golf.about.com/od/majorchampionships/l/bl1974pgachampionship.htm

http://golf.about.com/od/majorchampionships/l/bl1974masters.htm

The field is so much thicker, same guys week to week back then (like NASCAR) Jacks draught in 70 - 72 would have been much more with the thicker fields of today. Watching golf from the 70's and even the 80's is a joke - a bunch of fat whiteys stadler, fuzzy etc.

Comparing their results is like comparing WSOP results from the 30 player fields from 30 years ago, to what we have today. You just can't do it. What Tiger has done stands alone in his own international / big money era.

Tiger bashers are brutal and for the most part they have no reason to be a basher, they just dont like him because he is the best ever (by a long shot). And the real idiots now say they dont like them cause he screwed around on his wife. Who cares? I'm not saying it was right by him, but who really gives a shit what tiger does off the golf course? He's not your friend. I'm a realist about everything, i HIGHLY doubt tiger gets another "tiger slam" again or dominates anything like he did (those standards that he set are pretty high and i'd be shocked if they are ever matched again). But, he can still dominate the game of golf because its completely obvious nobody else can dominate the game besides him, NOBODY.

If there is somebody else who can take over the game of golf, please let me know who it is???

I'm certainly not questioning his past greatness. It's incredible ! However what does that have to do with the present day Tiger ? That's the Tiger I'm talking about and He hasn't done anything for quite some time now except sleep around on his wife. Do I like him ? No ! If He's the type of guy that you admire... So be it. To each his own.

These are the best 9 (odds) that Tiger will play against after Phil. I say he has a shot. You say a fork is in him. A guy who has the best Major performances in the past 5 majors (tiger) done.?...Finished in the top 5 at Augustan last month?

This whole thread seems like an over-reaction to 1 bad hole.

If you really think it's all an over reaction to just 1 bad hole, there's a ton of $$ to be made wagering on him. I have already stated earlier a bunch of reasons why I think his glory days are in his rear view window.
I have already put my $$ where my mouth is by placing my $$ on " Tiger to win 0 Majors in 2011 " at - 120. GL on your wagering on him to win any Tourneys this year.

I didn't like him as a senior at Stanford, the first time I saw him my phony radar went up the same way my Bill Clinton phony radar went up.
Doesn't man I don't think he's a good golfer, he is, I just don't like him.
OJ ran a great football, doesn't mean I like him, Bonds hit a baseball 450 feet, he was a good baseball player, doesn't mean I like him.

Tiger dominat(ed), past tense, he'll never dominate again, doesn't mean he can't win the 2012 Buick Open, just won't dominate again.
He's not a top ten golfer anymore, and the ranking will more than likely slip towards the 20 number before it nears the 5 number.

Well, first he was never a senior at Stanford so .....

Oh Bill, tell me who the hell it is that can dominate golf besides Tiger? Like I said, I'm not saying he dominates like he did, but I'm pretty sure he will be winning more tourn than everybody else again.

Bill, I'm a little dissapointed in you for bringing up freaking "golf rankings". Are you kidding me? I guess you think the college football team that has a #1 next to their name each week during the reg season is the best team too?

Is tiger in the top 10 in the world right now? Eh, I'll be real and say prob not. You really think all 10 of those shmucks ahead of him the rankings are better than him? hell no. Lets see how many that are ranked ahead of him at the US Open finish ahead of him in the tourn, or in the last however many majors for that matter
