I have never posted before, but must weigh in on this. Let It Ride? Whoever voted for that movie must have never been to a race track. The elementary mistakes made it unwatchable. This is easy, The Pope of Greenwich Village is not only the best gambling movie ever, but the best movie, period. I would call California Split a clear second.

Not original, but these would be my picks:

The Hustler
The Sting
California Split
The Gambler

Big Town was entertaining but very unrealistic, I thought.

I was very disappointed with Owning Mahoney, having read the book and followed the story in the news years ago. I don't think Brian Molony was as much of a creep as PSH portrayed. And Minnie Driver, WTF were they thinking?

Tilt was mediocre at best, though Madsen and Cibrian have potential, as David Mamet's "House Of Games" is better material of same genre and angle.

Will someone please introduce Scorcese to Artie B, Doyle, BB, BW, Herbie Hoops, Henry, Spiros, Negreanu, Chip, Hellmuth, and Cowboy, so we can finally get an authentic professional bettor movie made?

Whatever happened to the movie Nolan Dalla wrote about in Card Player that was going to be of Stuey Ungar's life? You couldn't write a better story than Stu Ungar's incredible genius, yet humongous personality faults. Not to mention how dominant the guy could be once he got a few chips and was playing his "A" game.

California Split....no doubt!! Ponies, poker, sports gambling all in one. One of Robert Altman's best!

There is a straight to video movie that was made by Jeff Probst (Survivor)

It's called "Finder's Fee".

After finding a wallet in the street, Tepper calls the owner the owner in order to return it. After making the call, however, he discovers that the lottery ticket inside is a $6 million winner. To add to things, his friends are on their way over for their weekly poker night, and the group tradition is to bet their lottery tickets. When the wallet's owner shows up and joins the game, who will walk out as the winner?

if you play in a regular poker game with your buddies, then you will love it.

Lots of twists and a great ending

It's on the shelf now at Blockbuster

James Earl Jones, Robert Forster, the blonde guy from "scream" - the killer, he was also Shaggy in Scooby Doo, Matthew Lillard, Erik Palladino

Worth a rent and the wife loved it also

Did anyone else see this?

funny how everytime a gambling movie list pops up, Let It Ride shows up many, many times, yet the movie was not a hit, and was basically a low budget box office dud....

But if you are true gambler, you will love this movie...

Maybe thats why non-gamblers didnt relate to it...

Richard Dreyfuss was perfect as the degenerate gambler at the track just wanting that "one" lucky day....and he gets it

most realistic parts, were everyone getting mad because he won, and didnt share the info, and the fact that everything he saw he felt was a "sign"..

Loved the sexy girl in the clubhouse, when he tells her great long legs, she says "yeah, they go all the way from my arse to the floor"..

Jennifer Tilly at her best I agree.

Let it ride, The pope of Greenwich Village with Mickey Rourke and Eric Roberts and Wiseguys with Danny Devito and Joe Piscipo are great movies that just never made it in the box office yet, are cult classics.

I got the horse right here
The name is Paul Revere
And here's a guy that says that the weather's clear
Can do, can do, this guy says the horse can do
If he says the horse can do, can do, can do.

(Benny starts singing his part at this time, while Nicely continues:)
Can do - can do - this guy says the horse can do
If he says the horse can do - can do, can do.

(Rusty starts singing his part as the time, while Nicely and Benny continue:)
For Paul Revere I'll bite
I hear his foot's all right
Of course it all depends if it rained last night

Likes mud, likes mud, this X means the horse likes mud
If that means the horse likes mud, likes mud
Likes mud.

Great line from Let It Ride. Trotter to his wife.
" So it's not my Gambling you've hated all these years it's my losing".
So very true.
