Jets +6.5 over Jaguars
When a team losses like the Jets did on MNF you know the general public is going to bet against them the next week. What were the Jets doing allowing Sam Darnold to be mic’d up in that game? “I am seeing ghost” is going to stick with him for his entire career. Lost in the shuffle is the fact the Jets have a good defense and are really good against the run. The Jaguars don’t have much of a passing game today with both tight ends out in this game and Dede Westbrook iffy today. I don’t think Jacksonville should be big favorites like they are today. The Jets should run the ball a lot with Bell and limit Darnold from making dumb costly plays. I think this will be a very slow paced game that favors the underdog. Jacksonville is just not good enough to be big favorites. Take the Jets.

Bills -2 over Eagles
The Eagles lost a few guys on the defensive line and this year the injury bug has hit them hard in the middle of their defense and in the secondary. Today’s game is going to very windy so the elements are taking Carson Wentz right out of this game for Philly. Buffalo loves to run the ball and the conditions favor them at home. This Eagles team is a mess right now as they can’t protect the football, can’t stop anyone on defense and are having internal issues in the locker room. The Bills have a great defense that is excellent at covering tight ends. Philly lives by finding the tight ends. This Buffalo team is tough and I don’t think the Eagles will be able to match the intensity on the road. Take the Bills.

Colts -5 over Broncos
The Broncos struggles on offense are not a secret. I don’t trust Joe Flacco and I don’t trust the passing game. This team has good running backs, but no receiver scares me. Emmanuel Sanders, who was just traded, was the only threat and now defenses don’t have to double team him. This is a tough surface and building to play in. Indy has a great offensive line that is protecting Jacoby Brissett. This unit just does not give up sacks. TY Hilton can always burn a defense deep. Denver just does not have playmakers that will be able to keep pace in a four quarter game on the road. Take the Colts.

A lot has been made about the "seeing ghosts" comment by Jets QB Sam Darnold last Monday night against the Patriots. But I thought it was an honest moment. The Jets have heard about this statement all week, so look for a fired-up offense to come out and find its rhythm and have a much better plan against the Jags' pressure. The Jacksonville defense is good, but the offense can't make teams pay like New England's can. This one will be very close.

Cincinnati has played tough in the majority of its games. The major problem is on offense, as the Bengals have struggled to find consistency. What an addition Jalen Ramsey was for the Rams last week, and he did a great job against the Falcons' Julio Jones. Look for him to mirror Tyler Boyd as the Rams continue to make things difficult for the Bengals offensively.

BIG AL's NFL TOTAL OF THE WEEK (86-49 RUN) -- Sunday

At 1 pm, our selection is on the UNDER in the Atlanta Falcons/Seattle Seahawks game. The defenses for both of these teams have been a sieve. Atlanta's allowed 53, 34 and 37 points in its last three games, while Seattle's given up 29, 28 and 30 points over its last three. The knee-jerk reaction might be to look for another high-scoring game here. But consider that, over the past 40 years, NFL games have gone 'under' the total 62% of the time when each team had given up more than 24 points in each of their three previous games. We saw this same situation a couple of weeks ago in the Giants/Redskins game. New York had given up 31, 28 and 35 points in its three previous games, while Washington's defense had allowed 31, 31 and 32 points. The O/U line in that game was 48 points, but it easily sailed under the total in a 24-3 New York win. I look for a similar outcome in this game on Sunday. Take the Falcons/Seahawks 'under' the total. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie.

Drew Brees is back, but the Saints looked really good with Teddy Bridgewater, winning and covering his five starts. The cohesion factor for the Saints is the first reason I bet the Cardinals. The second reason is the Cards have won and covered three straight. The rookie head coach and QB have their system down after a sluggish start and they give so many different looks for their opponents to prepare for. The Cards also have covered all three of their road games.

The possible return of New Orleans QB Drew Brees has pushed the line into double figures. However, Brees has been inactive since after Week 2 and could show some rust even if he returns. More importantly, Arizona has swept its last three outings straight-up and has covered in all three road games. The public has overestimated the Saints’ home-field muscle of late. N’Awlins is on a 2-5 ATS slide in its dome.

With the change at QB for Tennessee from Marcus Mariota to Ryan Tannehill comes a renewed emphasis on the offense. The Titans scored 23 points last week against a Chargers defense that is ranked 10th in points allowed. Tampa Bay is 31st in yards per point allowed at just 12.1. The Bucs have also gone over the total in their last four games. The weather will be perfect, and scoring will come in bunches.

The last time we saw Jameis Winston he was throwing five INTs in London, but with two weeks to think about that performance, Winston and Bruce Arians are set up nicely to rebound. The Bucs have the top rushing defense, allowing just 2.9 YPC, so it’ll likely be up to Ryan Tannehill to beat them, and that won’t be enough. Take the points.

This line says that these teams are even, but I think the Bucs are clearly better. They have an elite rush defense that ranks first in yards per carry allowed, and their ability to slow down Derrick Henry will put the game on Ryan Tannehill's shoulders, which is a plus. The Titans defense has been great but has faced a lot of limited offenses this year, while Jameis Winston and the Bucs have been excellent after a bye over the last four years (averaging 500 yards of offense when you throw out fake Week 1 bye in 2017). The Bucs have played a lot of good teams this year, and they'll win on the road against a mediocre Titans team.

This game has all the makings of a low-scoring defensive struggle. The Bears are having serious issues with QB Mitchell Trubisky and an offense that ranks 26th in the NFL, averaging just 18.7 points a game. The Chargers haven't been much better, averaging 16.7 points during their three-game slide. And both teams are dealing with several key injuries. Under is the play.

This is a get-right spot for a mostly healthy Bears team playing against a beat-up Chargers squad. L.A. doesn't have the rush attack (30th in DVOA) to win against the Bears front seven, and I definitely like the passing matchup for Chicago's defense as well. The Bears should be able to run the ball against a banged-up Chargers front that's just 24th in DVOA against the rush. And that means Mitchell Trubisky can manage the game, not have to throw it 50 times and keep his team in front with a positive game script. The Chargers have lost three straight to teams under .500, and they led for just 3:16 in those games combined.

The Bears have no business laying four points to a decent opponent. Their offense ranks 30th in average yards per game and, more importantly, per play. QB Mitch Trubisky is taking the heat, but he’s had little help. While L.A. is 2-5 straight-up, every defeat has been by one possession. The Chargers could be demoralized by last Sunday’s loss in which they appeared to have scored the winning TD -- twice. Here is guessing the bizarre ending will make this talented but injury-decimated team hungrier.

Everybody in the world saw what Sam Darnold hopes will be his worst game as an NFL QB on Monday night. What not nearly as many people have noticed is that Minshew Mania has died down a bit the last couple weeks. Gardner Minshew has completed fewer than 50 percent of his passes in each of Jacksonville's last two games, so he's been throwing to as many ghosts as Darnold. Take the Jets and the points. They might not win, but they'll make this close.

The Colts are a force in the AFC with back-to-back wins over the Chiefs and Texans. Joe Flacco, meanwhile, has really struggled, as the Broncos offense ranks 29th in the NFL and they just traded away one of their better offensive weapons. Flacco has been sacked 23 times already, and the Colts DL is going to add to that today.

It’s tough to throw on the Broncos, but as the Colts proved while upsetting the Chiefs in K.C., they don’t need to throw to be successful. Frank Reich will take advantage of whatever’s there, so look for heavy doses of Marlon Mack. It’s unlikely the Colts reach 30 points as they did a week ago against Houston, but the Broncos, who didn’t have much offense before, have even less after trading Emmanuel Sanders. Lay the points.

Denver’s popgun offense was further weakened with the trade of WR Emmanuel Sanders, leaving beleaguered QB Joe Flacco with a thin corps of targets. Indy QB Jacoby Brissett, conversely, is coming off perhaps his finest performance. His season TD pass/interception ratio of 14/3 is enviable for a lightly experienced thrower. If the Broncos could not hang with the Chiefs minus Pat Mahomes for much of the night, what chance do they have here?

Prior to this year, the Under had carried in six of seven London games by an average of 12 points. In general, grass fields produce slightly lower scores than artificial turf. Cincinnati has pushed or been Under in its last five games on the real stuff, while L.A. has stayed Under in its past four on the surface. The Bengals’ defense is far to blame for the team's winless record since the offense has exceeded 17 points just once. The Rams, for all of their talent, have a middling offense this season. Take the Under.

The Bengals are horrible, 0-7 and last in the NFL is rushing defense, allowing a whopping 189.0 yards per game. Cincinnati also is last in rushing offense, averaging just 53.1 yards per game. Meanwhile the Rams can run the football, and the addition of Jalen Ramsey will really help this team defensively. The Rams will name the score here. Lay it with Los Angeles.

Throw all of the stats out the window. This is a must-win game for Philadelphia, as the Eagles are coming off an embarrassment of an effort at Dallas. There has been a lot of talk about selfishness in the Philly locker room, so hopefully the talk will turn into motivation. Before the year started, my line on this game would've been Eagles -7.5. Buffalo has played the second-easiest schedule in the NFL so far.

The wind will be blowing off Lake Erie between 25-35 mph, so throwing and kicking the football will be a challenge. Buffalo's defense is No. 3 in points allowed per game at just 15 and the Bills are 5-1 to the under. Buffalo's offense ranks No. 15 in yards per play, but the Bills are No. 7 in rushing yards per game. Josh Allen has just seven TD passes in six games. Philadelphia's offense ranks No. 24 in yards per play. And with the heavy winds, the Eagles will need to turn to the running game.

This is a must-win game for the Eagles and a statement game for the Bills. Both teams have a lot riding on this contest, but when you look at the offense of Buffalo, it gives cause for pause. The Bills do a great job hanging around in games offensively, but they are not the most consistent bunch. Their defense is excellent, but they'll need to score in order to beat Philly.

The Bills offense isn't impressive and I like the Eagles to bounce back here. Buffalo turns the ball over too much; I think Philadelphia will take advantage. The Eagles have to win this game. They're facing a Buffalo team that gave up 381 yards to Miami. Look for the Eagles, in this desperate spot, to end their skid.

I don't think the Bills are 5-1 good, but I'd say they're better than the Eagles right now, which isn't being reflected in this line. The Eagles defense has been routinely toasted, allowing 24 points or more to everyone but Luke Falk. Josh Allen has been a good passer on short and medium throws, and he should be able to move the ball in this matchup, while a formerly elite Eagles rush D has struggled lately. Buffalo's defense is the best unit in this game, and the Eagles have failed to hit 300 yards on offense in two of their last three. This lines up well for a Bills win.

The Falcons defense has proven that it can't stop anybody. It's last in plays, yards and points per drive as well as last in percentage of drives allowing a score, turnover percentage, third down percentage ... the list goes on and on. Seattle will score its points, and I'm not sure the Falcons can keep up with either a limited Matt Ryan or Matt Schaub, who is 38 and hasn't played much since 2013. With Atlanta trading away players and with the head coach all but certain to be on the way out, this is a great team to fade this week.

Seattle is looking to get back on the right track defensively, and there's no better opponent to do so against than the Atlanta Falcons and their offensive line. And there shouldn't be much resistance for the Seahawks offense, as the Falcons defense struggles to pressure the QB and has issues in the red zone. Look for a big day for Russell Wilson.

This is a great bounceback spot for the Seahawks, playing a lifeless Falcons team that could be without Matt Ryan. Back Seattle to improve to 9-2 ATS in its last 11 road games.

The Falcons appear to have entered a rebuilding phase with the trade of WR Mohamed Sanu. QB Matt Ryan (ankle) has impressively logged 154 consecutive starts but will sit out at least one practice, raising the chances of him bypassing this game. He has taken a beating. Though noted for its home-field prowess, Seattle has covered in four straight road games. Atlanta is mired in a 2-5 ATS slump at home, where its once formidable advantage has dissipated as crowds have shrunk.
