I could see water becoming even more important then oil in the future. Should make Canada a very very rich nation because they have a ton and could sell it. Then again, we could invade Canuckistan and take it. :finger:

wouldn't it be possible to efficiently desalinate ( sp?) sea water instead of moving it across the world from somewhere like Canada ?

Doug, I'm not sure about the science of it to be honest. The theorist used the Mid-East as an example (I think Israel is damming either Jordan or Lebanon's biggest river). He was arguing that damming and diverting rivers would agitate other states and result in hostilities between states. Also, there is some debate over the use of the Tigris River I believe in the Mid-East and I think there is a problem somewhere in Turkey over this.

Imagine the US closing the gate on Hoover dam and filling up Lake Mead, using the water for Phoenix. Mexico would get pissed.
