I bought the plug and receptacle together at menard. I have not tried anything with the receptacle yet today, was waiting for responses.
OK sorry, If you can hook the plug onto the machine you're good to go there.
Not completely sure if you have the right receptacle. You might need L15-30 which is a 3ph 250v recep.

O.K. Well the plug and receptacle are both the L14-20 so I probably just need the L15-30 plug and receptacle, yeah? The L14 plug wouldn't work with the L15 receptacle would it?

Yeah, you would have to replace both, not the same configuration.

Hers the deal on hooking up the load....T1,2, and 3 do not have all the same voltage....when using a voltmeter and going to ground 2 leads will read 110v 1 will read 240v.... that 3rd leg is what makes it 3 phase and is called the 'wild' leg......i have never seen , not saying with this new equip there isnt something i havent heard of but ive never seen a wiring diagram that didnt specify which terminal the "wild " leg should go to....although i have seen diagrams where this leg is generaly referred to as T3..
And to Angle Broom...didnt mean any offense, just after looking at the diagrams and pics i like you thought that this looks so simple that in my experiance anyway he's got some basic part entirely wrong...not that he couldnt get it eventually with your help but with the breaker blowing and the motor getting hott and cutting off i have a feeling he's already damaged this thing that im sure cost some big bucks.....sometimes that $150 to get it done right the 1st time is the cheapest way around the problem...
No offense taken Pro, we appreciate your help.

O.K. If I had the wrong receptacle to begin with could that trip the breaker and cause the motor to get hot like it was?

It could, I'm not sure without a voltmeter to record you voltages. That plug was rated for 20 Amps -125/250. You're upgrading to 30A 3ph 250.
The difference as Pro pointed out yesterday is Wye and Delta. Your output is Delta (which is three legs same voltage), as opposed to Wye which utilizes a neutral. I'm not as sharp as I used to be, but this is my understanding.

The machines wires, what colors are they? And how many? Before attaching them to a plug.

I'm still not sure what you could have there that precludes knowing what wire T3 is...if T3 is run thru the control circuit of your boring mach it will burn out that circuit...T3 has to be known at the output so i dont understand where its not mattering at...

And you mentioned knowing where to put the ground...not in that receptacle huh? you do mean a 4th wire called a ground? that is not neccesary on 3 phase and there shouldnt be a ground coming off your converter...it may be an equipment ground which just goes metal to metal but not part of any wiring...

The T3 line is the phase that the generator creates. It will be the same as the input once the generator gets up to idling speed. He should check with a voltmeter to make sure that he is gettin 240 from leg to leg.
There wont be a (neutral, white), rather an equipment ground(green wire) bonded to the receptacle box and control panel.

It says 3 phase on the motor. If it isn't really 3 phase I might shoot myself.
