If you have a digital camera and could take some pictures of how you have everything hooked up at each connection point I'm sure we could get it solved. By the way, always pay an electrician to come and do the electrical work.:puppy:
Ha. I know but it just was not in my budget. The 220 I knew how to do but the phase converter I am in the dark.

This is what I have confirmed. The 100amp breaker in the house does lead to the shop and that was tripped. It wouldn't come back on but after messing with it a little I got it and power is back on to the shop. I will look for a digital camera now, I know I got one somewhere.

Here's what I would do:
Go back to the phase converter and make sure you made all your connections right. Your T1,T2,T3 connections should imperatively be made the same on both ends. Make sure the wire in the connection box is well insulated and not knicked. Make sure you grounded it on that end.
I'll write more in a sec.

That's the thing the instructions I have say it t1, t2, and t3 can go to any pair in the converter...whichever combo gives the best line to line balance. Still looking for the camera. Thank you much for your help Anglebroom.

Let's start with step 1.
You have your 10/2 wire going from the double pole and landing on L1 and L2 in the control panel (check).

Well I thought I had it, but unfortunately it isn't working. AngleBroom hooked me up with some details, and I realized that although it is wired correctly, something is not right. Freaking runs for 20 seconds then trips the breaker. The motor gets hot to the touch and stinks to high hell...hopefully the motor is not burned up.

Which one is running for 20 seconds, the machine or the phase converter?

converter. I never even hooked up the machine. When I told you the converter was running, well now I think it was just making noise. I thought it sounded awfully quiet.

Man, sorry to hear that. You don't wanna burn up that converter. It should only cost about $125-$150 to get an electrician to come out and look it over. Don't look in the yellow pages to get that price, you have to look in the paper for independent contractors that are licensed. I wouldn't attempt doing any work on my own, it could be a potential fire hazard, gotta be safe.

I do think the problem that you're having is probably limited to the phasing coming off of the control panel to the phase converter. Off of T1, T2, T3 they should be marked going to the other end in the phase converter and back where they tap to the receptacle connections. If the phasing is wrong it can make the motor burn up or run backwards. It's hard to tell over the phone or on the computer, I'd get a technician just to make sure it's safe and works properly.
