Underrated is a simple, but obvious choice.......

Michael Cooper from Lakers was also very underrated.

1. Rodman
2. Pippen
3. Cooper

These three were the best defensive players I thought for a long long time in the NBA. Honorable mention to Bobby Jones too. All great.

How about Bill Buckner being underrated. He was a great hitter and RBI man remembered for his gaffe in theWorld Series which overshadowed his great numbers. 3000 hits too.

Mariano Rivera - no one mentions now but will be HoFr

Mariano Rivera has been great but is in no way underrated. Every time he comes in to relieve on a national tv game I have to listen to a 5 minute soliloquy from the color analyst about how great he is.

wow, lots of love for scotty...guess we'll have to agree to disagree because imo, he was so over-hyped its disgusting. and i watched almost every bulls game for a long stretch so, i am not uninformed.

I agree with you Blue. But Clip and Tom Brady brought up some good points about Pippen that I had to agree with. One was that he was an excellent defender. Clip brings up the year he had good numbers so I agree that he was a good all-around player for that year and we agree to disagree that he should have been in the top 50.

Buckner didn't get 3000 hits...if he did he'd be in the HOF.

I agree though he has to be underreated because no one rememeber his Dodgers and Cubs years where he was a perennial .300 batter..

Micheal Vick may be remembered in history books as very overrated.

Ken Anderson, Steve Grogan, and John Starks were underrated.

Thanks Journey. I was too lazy to check on the 3000 but he had an awful lot of hits and some 100 RBI years too. Buck was an super pure hitter for quite some time.

He was around 2,700 but had he not had those bad wheels who knows, he would have made a run...he was done as a full time player at around age 37.

He was an usual first baseman/OF when it came to batting stats.,..he wasn't a power hitter , his OBP was extremly low considering he was a very good average hitter...career OBP of only .321

Ironically he made ONE all-star team too...1981
The year of the 1981 strike ...that was a long boring summer for us kids who lived for basebal back then...I remember they came back from that long work stoppage and played the allstar game before restarting the season....interesting that he only made one mid summer classic.

[UNDERRATED

1) hank aaron. it seems weird putting the all time home run king on this list but, when people talk about the best outfielders of all time, he is almost always listed at #5 or 6 behind mays, mantle, clemente, dimaggio.

the guy hit 755 homeruns. and, i think he is also the all time rbi leader. he did all this without steriods and dealing with racism and death threats. also, when he first broke into the majors, he stole 50 bases a year! if you look at his numbers...they're so awesome and consistent from year-to-year, its unbelievable. only babe ruth's numbers are better, imo.

I would agree with this too..I don't believe he ever stole anywhere near 50 bases though....Aaron grew up batting with his hands the opposite way on the bat too.

Frank Robinson is very underrated too.

Underated - YES, I'm going outside the box here with KEN GRIFFY JR. He was one of the most recognizeable players of the 90's. However, people have seem to have forgotton how dominate this guy was in the 90's pre-steroids era because of injuries. He is NEVER mentioned anymore.

Overated - It's hard calling out a leagues leading scorer but Carmelo Anthony = :puke1:

I could name 20 other players I'd rather have on my team.

In response to a few things...

One Pippen led his team close to the finals without the greatest player of all time on his team. HE was a game away...? With out the greatest player of all time that is some impressive shit to me.

Ripkens streak- MOST INCREDIBLE THING I HAVE EVER SEEN... My best friend plays Division 1 baseball at Florida State... Played baseball his whole life... and just got an injury redshirt last year because he broke his wrist diving for a ball. If you played baseball seriously since you were a kid you would understand. I played on all the travel teams with him played 100+ games a summer and NOT once did I play every game and I was the lead off hitter and center fielder. The most mentally draining game in the world is a 162 game season of MLB... GOLF IS CLOSE BUT U GET A WEEK or two or however many you want between tournies. Baseball is a sport where if you are good you fail 70% of the time.... THat is unreal... also I tore my rotator cup my junior year in high school... and I didn't pitch... Also you ahve to remember these are not kids... If is easy to stay healthy when you are a kid... Ever been hit by a 90 MPH fastball? One of the most painful things you can experience... and try to play the next day... Ever get your cleat caught in a base and slide over your ANKLE OWE!!!! To play that many games is amazing....

UNDERRATED... EXTREMELY
- FRANK THOMAS... someone brought up griffey so thought it would be appropriate... First player in the majors to stand up against Steroids in 94... Had arguably the greatest 5 game stretch in baseball history and if the league didn't go on strike he was on pace to have 58 HR's 145 RBI's 200 hits... hit 353 and have an OBP of close to 490... That would go down as possibly the most amazing (Non steroid) season in the history of the game... Most dominating offensive player in the 90's if injuries didnt get him could have done it for 5 more years after that.... Greatest pure hitter I ever saw when he was in his prime...

Dennis Rodman is vastly underrated. People seem to forget just how great a defender he really was.

It's amazing how many people get on Ben Wallace's cock for his shot-blocking ability. He's a good off-the-ball defender, not GREAT, but is painfully mediocre one-on-one. Meanwhile, Rodman could guard just about anyone effectively. Eccentricities aside, he was a truly great player. I don't even have to get started on his rebounding.

Barry Sanders is nowhere near overrated, IMO.

agree his career 13 rpg says it all.

Blue, you will find many disagree with the Overrated list, the underrated list is where we should focus on, who are your NBA most underrated players?

two underrated players

charles barkley
manny ramirez

when a lot of people think of barkley, they naturally think of him as a 40 year old guy who is fat and out of shape talking about games as an analyst on tnt. but the chuckster could flat out play. when you see him in those old sixers highlights, its amazing to see him so nimble and just driving full speed down the court to dunk HARD. he was overshadowed by bird, magic, and jordan but chuck had serious game. very underrated as a player. might be the best rebounder of all time for his size.

as far as ramirez goes, people focus (and perhaps rightfully so) on all of his eccentricities. some of the stories from when he was in cleveland are classic. but he just might be one of the best pure hitters of this generation. an rbi machine every single year and makes innate adjustments at the plate that only the truly great ones can. theres no doubt that, out of all the players in the last decade, he is the guy i want up with the winning run in scoring position and two outs. then again, he's also the guy who would call timeout to take a piss behind the green monster or hit the cut off man from 20 feet away. but an absolutely phenomenal hitter who doesnt get the credit he deserves in that department.

Anyone Who Thinks LT & Sandy K

are overrated doesn`t know shit about sports. OJ is not underrated he`s always given his due by those who know. I have a friend who loves MLB & Mays. He was saying how Willie was a better hitter than Hank. Now I love Mays too, but there is no lifetime hitting rec`d that Aaron is not ahead of Mays. How about the 1st D player to EVER be the league MVP in the NFL Alan Page? Finally some one realizes how Favre is so far overrated it`s insane, also Vick.
