It's not clear or evident what Meyer knew. You have to hear all sides of the story before you make an accurate judgment.

I posted Urban's statement from today in post #30. He admits in that statement he knew about the abuse and he misled the media.

What else do you want to know?

Pooh, careful that torch your carrying doesn't get you burned.

And to RollTide; No, I'm not confused. I can see right threw this. Yes, Meyer knew but he didn't want to go into details. He lied to the media, slap his wrists. But he says he reported it and I believe him. Now Zach says the AD called him in. No Title IX problems for Meyer it seems. AD now has to start talking.
I said this in the beginning, I really do not believe Courtney is totally truthful. NEED WITNESSES!! And I believe OSU coaches and wives really don't believe her either. They know her best. Even her own family is no where to be seen. HMMMMMM.
It will all come out in the wash as they say. Just sit back and wait for the final results.

I am a MICHIGAN fan. Hate Ohio State. But I'm not jumping on that bandwagon until I hear EVERYBODY's story.

Let me repeat.

1) Urban knew of Smith's domestic abuse past from 2009 and hired him anyway at Ohio St. Remember, this is a guy that was hired to influence young student athletes but Urban knew he beat his wife.

2) He was made aware of Smith's incident in 2015 and didn't fire him then and only fired him once the media found out about it.

3) He lied to the press and denied the accusations.

What else do you need to see here?

Isuggest that you read Title IX. He will be fired without cause. He has a track record of this sort of thing and has now been caught. Lying to the press at an officially sanctioned press conference, as he did, is a violation and he will get fired for it. The fact that he did it was enough. What about the face to face meeting he had with Smith last October? Did he conveniently forget that also? Are you one of these male macho bozo's that think that allowing a guy to beat on his wife and threaten her is allowable?

Some people will make every excuse possible to excuse the behavior of an abuser.

Thats not what he said. He said he knew that misled the media by acting as if he knew absolutely nothing, but he never said he knows what happened. He knew there was a problem in the relationship, but he heard two sides of it most likely.

It is also a fact that Urban told those higher up in the athletic department about what Zach told him in 2015. That is a FACT. Urban defiantly stated today that he followed protocol. What disproves that?

So, Urban wants us to believe he hears something in 2015 and reports it to the AD but according to you, he may not have been sure what happened but reported it anyway? Is that the story? That's what he wants us to believe and what he lied about?

And then, he hears about the abuse in 2015 and given what he knew about the abuse in 2009, he reports (according to you, he reports something but not sure what) it but keeps the guy on staff for three years until the media finds out and then, and only then, fires him?

You do know how this sounds, looks and smells right? Urban's explanation is a load of shit.

In the statement I posed in #30, Meyer stated three things:

From Clay Travis:

1. He knew about the 2015 domestic violence incident involving his wide receiver coach Zach Smith.
2. That he told his bosses about that incident and
3. Meyer acknowledged, in tortured language that would make Bill Clinton proud, that he’d lied to the media on July 24th when he’d been quizzed about the Zach Smith 2015 incident.

Here's what I want to know...if Meyer did report this incident in 2015 to his AD, did the AD conduct an investigation? The victim claims nobody phoned her in 2015.

We don’t know WHAT he heard in 2015. That is the WHOLE point. What if Zach Smith lied to Urban? Urban told Smith that if he hit her, he’d be fired immediately. He also told the AD there was conflict between the two. The AD could’ve decided not to investigate because they felt there wasn’t clear evidence to initiate looking into it.

There bottom Line is there is no evidence that Urban heard that Zach was abusing his wife. Those text messages are meaningless unless you can prove that Urban knew about those texts. There is no evidence thus far that he saw those texts.

We know exactly what Urban heard in 2015. He heard Zach Smith was abusing his wife and according to Smith, he was pulled off the recruiting trail and summoned to the AD's office to discuss the allegations.

Then, Smith walked down to the practice field and discussed the allegations with Meyer and according to Smith, Urban wasn't happy. Smith said all of this in his news interview Thursday.

Why are you acting like Urban didn't know anything? He knew and he lied about it. It's really that simple.

Enfuego, here are the problems with your statements;

"He heard Zach Smith was abusing his wife" in 2015. NOT TRUE. He heard Courtney Smith alleged Zach Smith had abused her. That's all we know right now. Something happened I am sure, but WE DO NOT KNOW. You are accepting the allegation as fact.

In 2009, Meyer stated, There was an allegation of abuse that turned out not to be true, marriage counseling recommended. You don't send a couple to counseling if abuse is evident. Still, could be a coverup by Meyer and Florida, we do not know.

Now, Meyer did lie right thru his teeth at the media days. Any credibility on his part severely tarnished!

The text messages released between Zach and Courtney show Zach did indeed "strangle" her while on vacation and again months later as he admitted it! Now that has me condemning Zach and it now looks very bad for him. I think he called it defensive restraining. That's not gonna fly!
Zach says he was called in by the AD in 2015. Thought the police had called the AD. So I ask, Why would the police call the AD? Big Buckeye fans??? I wonder if the AD knew before Meyer.
Her statement that she was never approached by the university is also very damning. If true, why didn't they?

Most of all, I feel for the kids. What a mess for their children.

Urban Meyer isn't getting fired. He shouldn't get fired, and he won't. Nowhere near enough here to lose his job.
I actually agree with you here sam. Urban is a prick and shady no doubt. But he did what he was suppose to do, he reported it. Is he suppose to be the judge and jury too? I mean come on people. I get sick and tired of hearing about all these coaches/players personal lives. The "media" thinks they are doing something worthy exposing all this personal bull shit about people. Its going to turn ugly for one of these reporters someday.

So let's get to the bottom Line here: Zack Smith has already been fired, and has been proven a liar at best. He did engage in physical abuse of his wife, even if he did not strike her. But, he has already been fired, will be divorced, and will never work in a college again. He is done.

Next on the pecking order is Urban Meyer. His previous record before this incident speaks for itself. We now know that he knew about the physical abuse, or the possibility of it, as early as October of last season. For some unknown reason he waits until the end of July to fire this guy. Why? He is now attempting to throw the AD, Gene Smith, under the bus. He has lost respect of just about every HC around. If I am an Ohio State Trustee, he HAS to go. He can no longer be trusted.

Finally there is AD Gene Smith. He is a known cover up artist for his coaches. He covered up the Jim Tressell incident. It is now obvious that he found out about the latest Zack Smith incident when Meyer did. Gene Smith is another one who must be fired. He is a very dishonest person.

Because this case goes so deep, Ohio State is now facing a charge of "Lack of Institutional Control". To try and limit the penalties that they will undoubtedly receive, they should fire both Meyer and Smith to show the NCAA that they took immediate action when the problem surfaced. It think that they both get fired before the end of the season. This story is only going to get uglier and uglier for both Meyer and Gene Smith.

Well, here's the problem with your statement.

In 2015, Courtney Smith sent photos of the abuse via text to Shelley Meyer. So, if you believe Shelley Meyer didn't tell her husband and show him the photos, you are batshit crazy.

Remember, Meyer not only retained Smith in 2009 but he hired him again at Ohio State and worse yet, kept him on again only until the media picked up on this story last week.

Let me ask you a simple question.

When Joe Paterno found out about abuse allegations against kids from Mike McQuery, he reported the allegations to the AD. He did what he was supposed to do right? If that is the case, why was Joe Paterno fired and vilified? How are the situations different?

They are completely different situations. One is sexual abuse allegations of children IN the facility. Penn State and Joe P. got what they deserved in the end...The other is a domestic violence situation that happened OFF campus. I agree Urban is at fault for bringing the guy with him and lying about when/what he knew. But do not try and compare this situation to the other, it wont work. Im surprised the slimy media has not started to compare this situation to Penn State and Mich State but leave it up to rx clowns to lump them together.

Don't look at the situations themselves.

Look at the reporting procedures and actions taken by Joe Paterno and Urban Meyer in regards to wrongdoing on or off campus. Both reported to the AD exactly the same and Joe Paterno was vilified and fired.

I understand what you are saying. I think Meyer is a prick. However you have to look at each individual "situation" and all the evidence you can before forming an opinion. Im sorry but molesting children and the attempted cover up is a different "situation" than putting your hands on your wife a couple times. But who knows what will happen here. Personally I hope they do fire him just to see how ohio state does without him. I also think ohio state doesn't want to let him go because they know he will get another high profile job.

It sure will be interesting to see how this thing plays out huh?
