I'm not ready to say she made it up. No doubt something happened in 2009. Her story is he brought home a female coworker and he was drunk. She drove the coworker home and when see got back they had a fight and he assaulted her. Need to hear his story.
She made police reports that a black SUV was following her. She made police reports that neighbors saw him peeking in her windows. These can be made up. He denies it all. His lawyer says we are not talking until court.

I would want to hear third party testimony so I could know who to believe.

What bothers me is she has called police and he was not arrested. Maybe because he was OSU coach? Maybe because of lack of evidence.
What also bothers me is she calls his bosses wife and says yes, tell his boss. This tells me she wants him fired. Now Pooh, if she is getting half of what he is worth, how much is he worth unemployed? Which is where she put him. She claims he was draining her financially. Maybe she already has money? I don't know.

Anyways, I am in wait and see mode. Right now I see two possibilities;

1. He has been assaulting her and abusing her. He is a nut job that stalks her. Local Ohio police won't arrest him. Urban has been sweeping this issue under the rug. OSU University has been sweeping this under the rug. And they all will fall. Of course, OSU is now investigating, that should be changed.

2. She is woman who hates her husband. Makes exaggerated claims. Urban sees this, knows his assistant coach is getting hosed as says get help, get her straightened out. It gets worse, they split up. She calls police to report window peekings, SUV following, gets restraining order. What do you think she tells the 5 year old son? Daddy is bad, he will hurt you, maybe? Could explain why he violated restraining order and drove his son right to her door. She nails him again.

As I said before, need to hear third party testimony. Has to be other witnesses. Then I'll decide who to believe.

She has text messages from him saying if she revealed his abuse and something happened to his coaching career he'd kill her and take the entire coaching staff at Ohio St. down with him.

This is indisputable.

not sure why the OP is so confused about this. has really nothing to do with who you believe this all has to do with Urban's reporting obligations related to Title IX statutes.

you need to reframe your narrative around what the real case is....

1) if he knew and 2) if he did not follow proper protocol and 3) coach's wives are covered by Title IX = he is done

the confusion is whether Title IX extends to a 3rd party like the coach's wife or whether ALL reports of violations that are learned by authorities (like coach of football team) are supposed to be reported.

stick with what the actual discussion is about which has nothing to do with who is peeping through a window at 1am

I don't believe Title IX applies to his wife as his wife. It applies to Shelley Meyer as a professor at Ohio St. which she is.

they may drag their feet but the results are obvious to me. i dont think once the police are involved and no charges are filed anyone has any further obligation but thats not how title IX works and it seem clear he knew. Gene Smith may need to work fast since the longer it goes on the more people will question his job with the university. he belongs in the discussion of shady people as well.

I'll have to disagree here. Yes, the police knew and no charges were filed. All true. But, Urban new of the allegations and lied about it to the media. That, and he violated Title IX are the two issues at hand.

based on title IX i think he almost has to lose his job. Im just saying in generalities of employment--i think that if the police are involved and the legal system has run its course i really dont think external peoples jobs should be at risk....that being said thats not how title IX works. he likely has to lose his job based solely on how it is set up.

I just read sources are reporting he is going to resign by the end of the day today.

Dead. Why would Ohio State go through the charade of appointing a "Committee" to investigate this if they were looking for a quick solution to this? I think that they have no idea about what they should do. If they defend Meyer and lose, the NCAA is going to slam them just like they slam everyone they get a shot at. If they fire him, they save some rather serious NCAA sanctions but lose a great HC (football wise, at least). Ohio State has a habit of playing dumb when things like this happen. Just look at Maurice Clarette and Jim Tressell. They will do it again.

As I jilted Gator fan, I'm just sitting back smiling. I hope he gets fired, and deservedly so....and that Ohio State slips into irrelevancy and has a "lost decade" of OSU football - like UF is going through.

I believe the committee thing is just a way to save face and buy time.

Again, just speculation by me, but I think the decision to fire Meyer was made days ago. Putting him on paid leave gave them time to work out the details.

I agree. I've never seen a coach get put on paid leave and then come back and coach the team again.

So, to sum this up.

1) Urban now admits he knew about the 2015 domestic abuse by his assistant coach Zac Smith and kept him on staff until last week when the press reported the story.

2) Reported the 2015 incident to his superiors who were apparently ok retaining Smith on staff at Ohio St.

3) Lying to the media at Big 10 media day by telling them he knew nothing about his assistant's abuse.

Just wow, he needs to be fired yesterday.

So let me make sure I understand this, because I am trying to digest all of this on my 3rd V.O. On July 23rd, Urban Meyer fires Smith because of his alleged involvement in domestic violence against his wife. The VERY NEXT DAY, July 24th, Meyer is scheduled to answer questions at the Big 10 Media Day. He now claims that he was not "adequately prepared" to handle the questions that he must have known would come up. Does this fool expect ANYONE to believe him? How utterly stupid can you be? Who is he trying to take down with him? Is he pissed off because Ohio State, unlike Florida, was not going to roll over and let him get away with more illegal activities? Meyer should be banned for life from ever coaching again.

He has literally fucked everything up he has touched today. He needs to stop talking.

It gets better. Now Zack Smith tells ESPN about a conversation he had with Urban Meyer about this last OCTOBER!! But Urban did not know a thing about it. Gene Smith also knew about all of this and that amounts to HUGE trouble for Ohio State. Here comes all kinds of scholarship reductions, and a couple of years of being banned from Bowl Games, and that is the best case scenario. Stay tuned..................

Urban Meyer isn't getting fired. He shouldn't get fired, and he won't. Nowhere near enough here to lose his job.

Isuggest that you read Title IX. He will be fired without cause. He has a track record of this sort of thing and has now been caught. Lying to the press at an officially sanctioned press conference, as he did, is a violation and he will get fired for it. The fact that he did it was enough. What about the face to face meeting he had with Smith last October? Did he conveniently forget that also? Are you one of these male macho bozo's that think that allowing a guy to beat on his wife and threaten her is allowable?

Nope, not what I said.

I think Urban made a mistake my not being forthright about it at Media Day, but that alone is not even close to enough to get him fired.

Meyer claims he followed protocol by reporting it to higher up in the department, which is what a decision would be based on. It'll have nothing to do about what he said at media day. If he told anyone above him, he keeps his job. Case closed.

Open your eyes.

How can you hire a guy with a history of domestic abuse first off. Then, after you hire him, you hear he abused his wife again and you keep him on staff then lie about it to the press? What a lying pile.

Pooh, careful that torch your carrying doesn't get you burned.

And to RollTide; No, I'm not confused. I can see right threw this. Yes, Meyer knew but he didn't want to go into details. He lied to the media, slap his wrists. But he says he reported it and I believe him. Now Zach says the AD called him in. No Title IX problems for Meyer it seems. AD now has to start talking.
I said this in the beginning, I really do not believe Courtney is totally truthful. NEED WITNESSES!! And I believe OSU coaches and wives really don't believe her either. They know her best. Even her own family is no where to be seen. HMMMMMM.
It will all come out in the wash as they say. Just sit back and wait for the final results.

I am a MICHIGAN fan. Hate Ohio State. But I'm not jumping on that bandwagon until I hear EVERYBODY's story.

It's not clear or evident what Meyer knew. You have to hear all sides of the story before you make an accurate judgment.
