Here is one example of a bloated Government Agency.

Are fewer than one of every 10 Environmental Protection Agency employees essential to its work?

Only federal employees classified as “essential” can work during a government shutdown. At EPA, that means just 6.6 percent of its workforce, according to Reuters.

Of the agency’s 16,205 employees, a mere 1,069 will work through the shutdown. That means that taxpayers employ 15,136 people at the EPA who are “non-essential

I don't think you understand essential vs. non essential. Non essential means you can survive without them but the agency will not run without them. For example, an IT tech would be considered non essential. This means sure, the computers will run but if a computer breaks, nobody will be there to fix it.

Do you understand?

We could very easily start by eliminating the Federal Agencies whose only purpose is graft or writing useless regulations that benefit favored constituents.

Depts of:

Agriculture
Commerce
Education
EEOC
Energy
FCC
FTC
HHS
HUD
Interior
Labor
National Endowment for the Arts
National Endowment for Humanities
NLRB
SBA
Transportation

Then you could cut the waste out of agencies that perform some legitimate functions but are 90% committed to graft or writing useless regulations that benefit favored constituents.

DOJ
EPA
FDA
Homeland Security
IRS
SEC

I am sure I have missed some things....... but it is safe to say that 90% of the non defense budget of the Federal Government is wasted (it is actually worse as it is used to harass productive members of society and distort markets). Most regulations are written to benefit favored constituents of politicians. The whole Federal government is basically one huge graft machine which directly benefits only those with political connections.

You would get rid of the Departments of Energy, Education and Transportation?

Do you mind me asking your age and educational background?

It's way more difficult than it appears. Do I think some civilians are expendable? Yes, do most of them that are non essential serve a purpose and help the organizations run? Absolutely.

Can they find the jobs somewhere else?

When you get hired as a government civilian, you are set for a long time with a great pension. Once you're in, you're in so to speak. It's a good deal.

Not anymore since the housing collapse 5 yrs ago. Federal government employment size is actually shrinking. If they're in the market looking for jobs and there is a demand for their skillsets, they could easily find something to do beside sitting around and whining all day. The sooner they hand out pink slips for those leeches, the better for taxpayers.

They have jobs and pensions. Why in the world would you want to lose that stability when you know the last shutdown only lasted 17 days?

Whining all day? These are people that need paychecks like everyone else to pay their mortgage, car note and bills. They are without an income because of a disagreement between our political parties. You'd be upset as well if you were prohibited from earning a paycheck.

Whining all day? What a joke.

If it's because their own financial stability and they have good knowledge and skillsets, they should stay far far away from the government jobs.
Who is in their right mind would want anyone to control their own lives from one paycheck to another?

FACT is many fed employees are useless shit and no one would hire them. That's why they're desperately hanging on to taxpayers payroll. So the joke is on them.

I agree with this statement but there are a lot of private companies that are contracted with govt facilities. I feel sorry for these people

It's clear you're kind of confused and not really knowledgeable about civil service. What are you talking about when you say the government controls a person's life paycheck to paycheck? The guy I work next to has been in civil service for 10 years.

You're right, nobody would hire a retired military vet that holds a TS Clearance (do you realize how much a TS Clearance costs a private company to secure)?

I do mind actually...... but I am 43 yeas old with a Masters Degree in Finance. You can disagree with me without assuming I am an idiot because we have reached different conclusions on a subject. I find it amusing or irritating depending on my mood how supporters of big government always assume that anyone who does not unquestionably embrace the hyperstate is an uneducated fool. Perhaps some reasonable educated people actually have a principled opposition to an out of control federal government.

When you let the politicians to decide when you work or not, meaning they control your life. This temporary shut down does not affect any members of armed forces. I'm talking about other useless government jobs, not military personnel.....

We've had one government shutdown in the last 17 years and you're saying politicians are controlling people's lives?
