Thanks Indy. GL to you. Tomorrow is a big day.

Small:

Arizona St. +13 Texas is going to be tough to beat, and ASU will have a hard time upsetting them after 60 minutes of football. But with ASU's offense, with Sam Leavitt showing incredible improvement from even mid-season to now, they can keep it close for much of the game. Skattebo will get the tough yards, but he is also a very good blocker and receiving option. ASU will need to take chances here on both sides of the ball, while Texas might feel like they can win playing more conservatively. Texas can sometimes dominate, but it doesn't always show up on the scoreboard. In the Clemson game, they fiddled around for much of the 2nd half and Clemson got within 7. The A&M game was closer than it should have been. ATS losers vs. Vandy, Kentucky and Arkansas. Got a feeling Leavitt elevates his game a little more and ASU keeps it close.

Fred, I always look to your writeups and picks. You're very good. To me, these stats are telling. ASU has made a nice run, but I don't see them keeping up with Texas. The Horns will put up a lot of points on ASU ala Clemson.

Large:

Alabama -13 (-115) Larger favorites, say 7.5 or better, have done well so far this bowl season. Forget the Michigan on the uniform for this game, this is a team really down some key players. The Michigan DTs were crucial in their competing vs. Ohio State and Indiana, one of which will go 1st round, one in the 2nd in the NFL draft. And a later pick at DE. This and a couple other defensive players made Michigan competitive , where their offense couldn't get by on a decent run game. Well... their best RBs are also opting out. UM will likely have some decent younger talent to keep this game from getting ridiculous, but at QB and the playmaker spots, they are in trouble. Alabama is mostly intact, and would like to get some revenge for losing in the semi-finals last season in the NC playoffs. Besides, Michigan got their BIG win beating OSU. And Alabama has the motivational edge.

Small:

Alabama -7 (-114) Should be large maybe, but Bama will wear them down possibly 2H.
ofred, the 2nd small play, is that 1st half Alabama -7 ?

In seriousness, those counting stats don’t paint a full picture. If you look at national rankings in EPA/play, Texas is 8th offensively and 3rd defensively while Arizona State is 12th offensively and 18th defensively.

Still clear advantage Horns, but not nearly as drastic as if you look at unsynthesized data.

I'm not saying that Texas will cover. Haven't decided what side to get on. Buying it to ASU +14 1/2 is tempting. I waiting to see what the Texas TT is. Most likely I'll play over.

Good discussion. Texas stat-wise is far superior, but as I said in the write-up, sometimes the scoreboard doesn't show it. They are 6-5 ATS. I was also tempted to buy it up to 14. If I'm ASU, I'd blitz or confuse Ewers a lot. If he plays well, ASU is probably cooked.

ASU was also a much better team 2nd half of their schedule. Does anyone know a website that breaks it down that way, by portions of the season?

Camy, Bluefish thanks. Glad Texas found a way to F it up, but the game isn't over.
