I've been fired from one job my entire life and my manager hated me from day one.

She did everything possible to get me canned. I didnt kiss her ass like everyone else. Ive never played the politics game. She would call meetings in the morning and not tell me about it. Then use it against me that I didn't show. That was just tip of the iceberg but in the long run she did me a favor. A year later I was 29 and made $100k. Brought my W2 in and showed the bitch, asking if she wanted to compare.

Nice. Like it.

What you point out is one thing that concerns me. Her calling meetings and you not "attending".... Then they "document" you and make a fake paper trail. That's what I'm concerned with. I don't really care about the job. It's just assuring unemployment benefits aren't denied and I don't get bad-mouthed for a future employer.

I was thinking again that that whole charade yesterday was to do a write-up or whatever. Then they make another... and bang!

Whatever. See what kind of nonsense they run today.

He's probably following your posted picks in here. You deserve to be fired with that record.

i dont know if you job works this way but with a former employer i put in my two weeks but they said dont worry about it and paid me for them anyway. basically had 2 weeks of pay and was able to enjoy myself before my new job started. that was a special circumstance possibly. they didnt want me around as i was leaving and handling client info, in a lot of sales jobs they dont want a guy halfway out the door barely working anyway. if you do put in your two weeks they also may be less inclined to fire you since they know you cant file for unemployment if you leave on your own. just an option but i was thankful for the 2 weeks paid essentially. always better to leave on your own imo. sounds miserable anyway so get some things in the works and move on.

Almost all employment in the US is at-will, meaning they can fire you without cause (provided it's not discriminatory). So I'm not understanding why they would jump through all these hoops to manufacture fake cause that they don't need.

I have been in plenty of rooms when the decision was made to let someone go and not once ever was anything close to "let's plant some weed on him" suggested. I just don't believe it happens.

To get out of paying Unemployment.

All the time. They would be sneaking around, trying to get something on us, encouraging others to file complaints against us, monitoring our emails, remotely monitor our computers, going over the so-called "security cameras" with a fine tooth comb. They were especially diligent when it came to trying to get something on those making "too much money". Anything to get them out and cheaper employees in.

That sucks.

I've kind of accepted this now so I'm at peace. Only concern is I'd like to get my unemployment benefits because some cash is better than zero cash.

Damn, wish I didn't read this thread! Bringing back bad memories
from 2011 when my boss teamed with HR to fire me.

He was President of company and I was only a Finance Manager so
I had no chance. About to turn 50 and company cutting cost so
he skipped all the "official HR policies"....

Anyway, my advice-find another job ASAP and make damn
sure no one knows you are looking. I was told by many that
I would be safe and I went through hell for 4 months before
the asshole fired me. Then he retired 3 months later.

Ugh, I'm pissed again just thinking about it!!

Good luck!! Get out on your own terms.

odd are if they are trying to get rid of you, they would contest your unemployment claim

Theoretically, yes, but in practice it's not so successful. It's very hard as an employer to win a dispute over an unemployment claim. I have fought against probably 30 in my life, people I fired for egregious cause and then tried to deny unemployment, and I can count the # I won on one hand.

Probably varies by state, I can't remember. I've been out of that type of role for several years now.

First off, 100k isn't shit these days. It is not some impressive milestone anymore for someone with a degree and experience.

Secondly, you did not do that, you are lying.

Third, you are a colossal douche.

It's a pretty sick feeling, isn't it? Your work environment weaponized with your boss and human resources against you. Glad that's in your past.

This is really good to know. Did not know this kind of stuff. I would now imagine the odds are good that I won't be denied unemployment if it comes to that.

I have to say I've had a lot of jobs and worked with a lot of people over the years. Worked with people from all over the world, ex-cons, real characters, people from all walks of life.... but I've never seen anything like this basketball American that I work with now.

I sometimes marvel how he is not in jail. The incredibly low level of self-control and violent rage emanating from him .... it is incredible. He is like a wild beast.

In American culture you can't fire these people, but I sometimes wonder what is going in the minds of the different managers. They have all heard him and he is like a wild animal.... Anyways, doesn't matter. On the positive side of things he didn't use the "N" word once all day. An incredible feat for him.

Tomorrow is Friday. I'm of the opinion they won't can me tomorrow, though one can never know. Good either way. Actually would be a blessing... as long as get that little bit of padding which is the UI. Could have a nice couple months off.

KEEP DOCUMENTATION. You should document everything. Doctor's notes if you miss work, emails, written details of interactions with management/HR. Investigators get off on that shit. If you have a notebook full of evidence that you do your job correctly, I promise you will win any appeal.

Start it now and backdate what you can.

But what documentation can I really keep?

Just a journal with all that happens? I mean, it's just words on paper. I'll start this weekend.

Still amazed they don't discipline this basketball American. I'd imagine he made some shit up about me and cried like a bitch to HR to get me fired, thus the witchhunt.

Yeah. Especially emails. If you email your boss that you're going to miss work and he replies "no big deal" but then fights your claim saying they fired you for attendance, you have proof of that exchange and it bolsters your case. It doesn't take much.

Like this, which you said in the OP: "Anyways, they let me finish my shift and said I'm good."

Just a quick note in your journal.

I remember I had several appeals where the guy busted out a few email exchanges or documented conversations that, even though out of context, made it an easy win for him.
