World Golf Championship- HSBC Champions, Shanghai, China

after 2 rounds;

M Fitzpatrick - -11
R McIlroy- -10
X Schauffele -9
S Im -9
A Scott -9
H Li (hometown hero) -8

In the video above Tiger is SPOT on when he talks about Rory's game. That the N Irishman has the same advantage that Tiger once had in his youth-- length. No one drives it better than McIroy, when he gets the wedge game and putter going he's capable of lapping the field.

Rory's 2020 season is starting to the same tune as his fantastic 2019 season which saw 3 wins including The Player's and The Tour Championship at which he chased, took down Koepka.. 3rd last week in Japan...and heads into the weekend at China in the final pairing

Rory's 2019 stats

top 10 finishes -- 1st
scoring average-- 1st
tee-to-green-- 1st
driving distance - 2nd

any golfers from the Santa Monica area ? I'll be there late Nov for a few days. Business not pleasure so I dont haev much time but gotta get out and play :)

any recommended courses in the area? anyone play this course?

views appear stunning and its only 9 holes. 18 maybe too tight time wise, thinking 9 likely the best option

its no secret that the women's game is being steamrolled by the Asians. However, a great story is unfolding for American golf

Peter Korda is a Czech born tennis player who won 10 ATP tennis events, including a major. His wife is also a Czech born tennis player and the genetic combo has produced 3 athletic offspring. The two girls are elite golfers, and BEAUTIFUL young ladies. Nelly Korda won this weekend.

'Petr, a former tennis world number two, won the 1998 Australian Open among his 10 ATP Tour titles but he says that none of his personal achievements comes even close to the level of satisfaction and pride he has gained from watching his children flourish in their own sports.
"You can't compare it," he said, after watching Nelly play the last eight holes in Saturday's third round at Tiburon Golf Club before she signed for a 5-under 67. "What my children are achieving means much more. It's the same for me and for my wife," he added, referring to Regina, a former professional tennis player from Czechoslovakia. "My titles and my two majors (one in singles and one in doubles) are meaningless. Driving their bus every day, and seeing them fail, not on a daily basis, seeing them win - that is what my life is all about, and I am enjoying every bit of it." '

haha!! The sport is so loaded right now, has gone global bigtime. And having a healthy Tiger makes it a special time for golf for damn sure!!

Tiger ? has these names ahead of him; Cantlay, Rahm, JT, DJ, McIlroy , Keopka. For him to re-claim obviously he needs big World ranking points and he needs to WIN important tournaments . A major is worth 100 pts. He'd have to win multiple tournaments and maybe need help from Koepka/Mcilroy , to have poor yrs. Tiger has already won a tournament in Japan to start the 2020 season

Can he stay healthy? He has stated the need to have a schedule that's easiest for his body. I dont think the new schedule , introduced a yr ago, is good for Tiger as its much much more condensed-- more big tournaments in a shortened period, no time for rest. After winning Augusta last yr he took a needed 3 week break ( i think it was) and proceeded to lay an egg at The PGA Championship at Bethpage Black

President's Cup is set for December. Els and Tiger captain picks are in

International team. Captain- E Els

A Scott
H Matsuyama
A Ancer
CT Pan
L Oosthuizen
M Leishman
H Li
C Smith
captain picks-- Hadwin, Niemann, Im, J Day

USA Captain- T Woods

D Johnson
J Thomas
B Koepka
B DeChambeau
M Kuchar
W Simpson
X Schauffele
P Cantlay

captain picks- Woods, Reed, Finau, Woodland

think both captain picks were solid. Maybe Kisner for Woodland?

notables Tiger passed on : R Fowler, J Spieth. Spieth is close to being knocked off the top 50 in the World. This guy has literally fallen off the cliff and is only 26 yrs old.

USA clearly has the stronger team on paper.

Really like Els' picks on Im , Niemann. Two outstanding young players. Im was rookie of the year, Niemann won for the first time recently

here's j Niemann's swing. He skipped college, straight to the pros, heck of a talent

does he shallow that club on the downswing or what? wow.. :15c mark is awesome, what a position, look how 'under' he is!!! how open the hips are!! right elbow tucked to his side. CLASSIC!!!!!!!!

is it time for this guy to put his name on a Major trophy?

at 25 all that he is missing is a major. Jon Rahm wins at Dubai and in doing so wins The European Order of merit for 2019 . (<)<

'The conclusion was as if scripted. Only Seve Ballesteros had taken delivery of the European Tour’s order of merit title on behalf of Spain before Jon Rahm triumphed on Sunday.
Rahm had been eight clear of Tommy Fleetwood after seven holes of the final round. By the 18th, the 25-year-old had to get up and down from a greenside bunker for a birdie to avoid a play-off that would have determined the outcome of the DP World Tour Championship and season-long Race to Dubai. He summoned the spirit of Seve with some short-game magic; a delicate flick from sand left a three-foot birdie putt for victory.
“I’ve thought about it all week,” said Rahm of emulating Ballesteros. “I’ve thought about it the last two hours. I thought about it as soon as I made the putt but it still hasn’t processed in my mind. It’s a thought in there that still has not been internalised.

“It’s really so hard to believe that some of the greatest champions in European golf and Spanish golf haven’t been able to accomplish what I have. It just doesn’t feel like it’s true. It’s hard to believe.”
It was not Ballesteros but another great, Jack Nicklaus, who sprung to the Spaniard’s mind as he sought to close out what had long looked a straightforward win. He three-putted the 15th for a bogey as Fleetwood was about to complete an inward nine of 31. The Englishman’s 18-under-par total was the target. “I heard Jack Nicklaus talk about his win at the Open at Muirfield [in 1966],” Rahm said. “He said he was on the 16th hole and told himself: ‘If you finish three, four, four, which was birdie, par, par, you win the tournament.’
“I told myself on 16 before I hit the tee shot: ‘If you finish four, three, four you win the golf tournament, no matter what anybody else does.’ You dream of making birdies on 18 to win a tournament.”'

BOOM into the top 3 in World Rankings..........DJ drops , yet again......

1. B Koepka (USA)- 11.15
2. R McIlroy (IRE)- 10.08
3. J Rahm (ESP)- 8.29
4. D Johnson (USA)- 7.58
5. J Thomas (USA)- 7.50

jon-rahm.jpg

Rahm won for the sixth time in 40 starts on the European Tour, faster than any other golfer. He’s racked up top-25 finishes in the United States at a rate second only to Tiger Woods. The 25-year-old climbed to third in the official world ranking, and became only the second Spaniard to win the Race to Dubai, joining the legend Seve Ballesteros.

the 2020 Golf season will be a CRACKER ..........of the young guns to make a big impression in 2020 , i say its Viktor Hovlund -- massive talent, expecting him to be Ryder Cup stable for years to come..we shall see. Affable , fearless

one of the beauties of golf is that its a game of honour. Don't need refs. Not uncommon to see players call penalties on themselves .

Fat pig Patrick Reed was at it again. He has history of this shit at the collegiate AND professional level . Here he is at the Hero Challenge;

anyone, and i mean anyone that plays this game would damn well know he/she hit sand. ANYONE, let alone a professional. The fat guy was given a 2-stroke penalty and afterwards claimed; 'they saw something that i didnt see', @). You fuckin'lowlife. He , yet again, disgraced himself. He is a CAPTAIN's pick for the US squad. Tiger was in a tough spot after the incident and not surprinsgly, took the easy road. Kudos to Chamblee for laying into 'Captain America'

''If that's not improving your lie, I don't know what is,'' NBC analyst Paul Azinger said when it was shown on replay. ''He knows better. I don't know why that happened or what he was thinking.''

More telling was Rickie Fowler, who walked out of the scoring area toward a group of reporters and looked up at the television when it was being shown again.

Cameron Smith was more blunt the following day.
''If you make a mistake maybe once, you could maybe understand, but to give a bit of a (expletive) response like the camera angle,'' Smith told Australian AP. ''I know Pat pretty good and he's always been nice to me, so I don't want to say anything bad about him. But anyone's cheating the rules, I'm not up for that.''

......

Chamblee:
First time event? Maybe. It depends, case by case basis. But this was flagrant. No way, no camera angle you could look at. Anybody in the world of golf who watched this, it was repugnant video to anybody in the world of golf….As far back as this game goes, at its inception, is that you do not improve your lie. It’s not a new rule. It’s been a long time, I don’t care what camera angle, he will have known he’s improving his lie.

Reed belongs in a cartoonish sport like the NFL. Of course, he'd be on the sidelines as the assistant to the place kicker ...
