The 119th US Open Championship, Pebble Beach Golf Links, California...............June 13-16, 2019

Pebble Beach Golf Links has hosted this Championship 5 times,........ its 100 years old :). Par 71, just over 7000 yds and smallish greens. By early accounts the course will have a traditional US Open set-up. Tightened fairways, PUNISHING rough. Placing tee shots at a premium

the 3rd major of the year has arrived. The big tournaments ytd have all had elite names as winners. Does The US Open follow suit?

The Players Champioship- R McIlroy
The Masters - Old Man River
The PGA Championship- B Koepka
The US Open - ?

those that think B Koepka is The Next One? ....lol

“I’m dead. I’m fried,” Koepka said after a 2-over 72 Saturday at the Travelers Championship. “My body is starting to ache, too.”
I'm just pretty – I don't think I'm even over the PGA,” he said. “And then to exert all your energy there last week, just fried. I mean, I've caught myself yawning on the golf course. I don't think I've ever yawned on a golf course before.”

LMAO. This from a guy who boasts about being mentally stronger than the field

yeah, he most certainly is no Tiger Woods. As time passes what Woods has accomplished will be seen in even greater light

[h=1]Players are using and endorsing CBD, but the PGA Tour is wary[/h]
It’s one of the most popular trends on tour. And, some would argue, one of its riskiest.
In 2018, the World AntiDoping Agency removed CBD from its Prohibited List, allowing its use by PGA Tour players and Olympic athletes. (The tour, as a participant in the Games, takes its direction on drug enforcement from WADA and the United States Anti-Doping Agency.) Maggie Durand of WADA says a drug is placed on the list for meeting two of three criteria: It has the potential to enhance sport performance, it represents a health risk to the athletes, and it violates the spirit of sport.
According to tour players, caddies and coaches interviewed by Golf Digest, perhaps 15 to 20 players, or more, routinely use a CBD product. Bubba Watson, Charley Hoffman, Lucas Glover and Scott Piercy are among the high-profile names with CBD-related sponsorships, along with Champions player Scott McCarron.

What spurs the players’ CBD use varies. Cited benefits include anti-inflammatory properties, anxiety relief, and improved sleep. Watson, who has been the most vocal player on the topic, says the product keeps him pain-free

“What many don’t realize is the incredible mental and physical strain pro golfers endure practicing and competing day after day and year after year,” says Anthony Mazzotti, CEO of Functional Remedies, which became the first hemp-oil company to become an official sponsor on tour (the Champions’ Rapiscan Systems Classic).
In April, however, the tour sent a warning to players about CBD. The warning, which the tour shared with Golf Digest, states, “The FDA, DEA and private organizations including Major League Baseball (MLB), have conducted tests on CBD and “THC-free” products only to find significant levels of psychoactive (and prohibited) THC or falsely labeled amounts of CBD.”

Andy Levinson, executive director of the PGA Tour’s Anti-Doping Program, has expressed concern because of the lack of regulation within the industry. In a 2017 study, the American Medical Association discovered more than two-thirds of products tested had different levels of CBD than what was stated on the label. In 21 percent of those items, THC was found, which at any level could produce a failed test for a tour player.

“CBD in its pure form is not prohibited,” Levinson told Golf Digest, “but the use of CBD in any of its currently available forms would be at a player’s risk.”
Some players remain undaunted. “I’ve had doctors involved to do my research and see what companies out there make a product that’s safe for me and safe for my family. It was a no-brainer,” Watson says. “There’s no bad stuff in it, there are no chemicals in there that will mess you up or make you fail a drugs test. There are certain companies we trust.”
To this point, no player has publicly failed a tour drug test because of CBD use. And, given the samples of CBD products available at a handful of PGA Tour events this season, there’s not a back-room stigma to its use. Nevertheless, Levinson says he gets more CBD-related questions than on any other supplement.

“You see this a lot in the supplement industry,” Levinson says. “There’s some buzz around something, and everybody tries it, and they might stick to it for a while, but generally a lot of times it fades away.”

guess who's got it going after the first two days in Detroit?

He leads the PGA tour in driving distance. The guy may be a freak with clubhead speed that is off the charts. He has badly struggled in 2019 since winning as a rookie in Oct

Cameron Champ ....he just polished a 65 hitting 64% of fairways , 325 yds of the tee. Likely using his 3 wood off the tee most of the time...@)

Nate Lashley , a journeyman has a SIX SHOT LEAD heading into Sunday. If he can hold on, would be a massive day for the 36 yr old. A cheque for $1,300,000 and his full PGA Tour card for 2 years...AND a ticket to The Open Championship in a few weeks. He was the last alternate to get in....what a world ...:)

......

Nate Lashley is the 36-hole leader heading into the weekend rounds of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club in Detroit.
Lashley is not a household name, or even a name golf fans would recognize at all.
So, let's get to know him a little bit.

The 36-year-old is a native of Scottsbluff, Neb. He played for the University of Arizona, and currently lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.
His recent best finish was a T28 at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach just two weeks ago.
Gary Woodland won that event, but did not make the cut this week in Detroit.

In May of 2004, during his junior year in college, Lashley's parents, Rod and Char Lashley and girlfriend, Leslie Hofmeister, were killed in a plane crash in Wyoming.
They were flying back to Nebraska from Oregon after watching him compete in the NCAA West Regional.

Like Gary Woodland, Lashley played basketball growing up.
He earned all-state honors three times in his high school career in Nebraska.

Lashley had to play in a qualifying tournament at The Orchards in Washington Township for a chance to play in the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week.
He did not initially quality, but was listed as an alternate. He received a call around 11 a.m. Wednesday that he was in the field.
"I kind of had an idea that I was going to get in," Lashley said after his round Friday. "I knew on Tuesday there was a couple withdraws and I was the first alternate that I was most likely going to get into the field."

Lashley is ranked No. 353 in the world and No. 132 in the FedEx Cup rankings.
He scored a 9-under first round 63 Thursday morning, and followed it up with a 5-under second round 67 on Friday afternoon.

can't wait until this kid hits the PGA Tour. He just lapped the field and won the NCAA Individual title. A unique swing. Thankfully no swing coach infected it.

The guy hits it a mile, VERY HIGH, and is quite accurate . As another observed ; ' he's a cross between J Furyk and B Watson'. haha, he really is!!

a lot of moving parts tho, wonder how it holds under pressure

anybody see today's finish at the 3M? Are you kidding me?!

20 yrs old. A fantastic collegiate career....his 4th PGA event is a WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eagle putt on 18 to win !!!!!!!!

People retire to play more golf....as do professional athletes from other sport :)................The 30th American Century Celebrity Championship begins tomorrow....Lake Tahoe

Past Champions;

2018- Tony Romo
2017- Mark Mulder
2016- Mark Mulder
2015- Mark Mulder
2014- Mark Rypien

100 participants this year, but only a handful with a legit shot

.............

The American Century Championship has never lacked for star power — nor for talent. But now, more than ever, the tournament’s best players are also its biggest stars. No, Charles Barkley isn’t expected to contend this year. A number of top-flight athletes headline this year’s 30th edition of the event in Lake Tahoe, marking a true golden age for celebrity golf.
Take a look at this year’s favorites and consider their “other” athletic careers, too. Defending ACC champion Tony Romo was a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. Last year, Romo edged out former Cy Young contender Mark Mulder, who won in 2015, ’16 and ’17 and returns with revenge on his mind. Cy Young winner and perennial MLB All-star John Smoltz is expected to contend, too, after a renewed focus on his own game. Steph Curry, who finished 4th in 2017, will enter this year’s event fresh off a fifth consecutive NBA Finals appearance.
What do these two MLB aces, a Pro Bowler and an NBA MVP have in common? In recent months, they have all sharpened their games against the best golfers in the world.
Romo’s latest pro appearance came in May at the PGA Tour’s AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas. He missed the cut, but was encouraged by a steady showing of 76-74 — and remains wholly consumed by the vexing game of golf.
“You can really make a ton of improvement with the right technique or practice. It’s like a puzzle. You can figure it out and you can really improve. It’s just, you got to go try and dissect it and figure it out,” Romo said after the Byron Nelson, more determined than ever. “If you can, then you can shoot scores that you’re proud of.”

Mulder played in last fall’s Safeway Open, posting 75-74. He’s been itching to get back to Tahoe. “I personally don’t get this anywhere else. So that’s why this is my favorite week of the year,” he said after last year’s event.
Smoltz, now 52, has been making a concerted effort at playing the PGA Tour Champions. In three 2019 starts, he’s shown flashes of brilliance — and earned praise from his competition. “I have had a lot of flattering comments from guys who say, ‘Hey, you can really play.’ Guys like Billy Andrade, Jerry Kelly.
“They manage their games better; I’m still learning. When I think about what needs to be different, it’s kind of like a lineup where there’s one guy who you just can’t get out.” For Smoltz the pitcher, that hitter was Tony Gwynn. For Smoltz the golfer, it’s a matter of honing in all facets of his game at the right time.
As for Curry? He may be the most golf-mad of them all. “I think I think about golf way too much, it’s a problem. Like, during a game, yeah,” he admitted in a Facebook show following his life.
“If I’m on the bench, dead ball or something, a swing tip might pop into my head…I’m haunted by it. That’s what my wife says,” Curry said.
Curry’s two Web.com tour events have come near his home at the Ellie Mae Classic; while he missed the cut both times, three of the four rounds were 74 or better, impressing his playing partners.
Every week besides the ACC, this crew of serious players pull for each other. “It’s awesome. Celebrity golf is getting better, the upper echelon of guys who can play, and we always know when another guy is playing,” Smoltz said. But the American Century Championship, as fun as it is, means time to dial in their best efforts.
“It’s our World Series of Golf,” he continued. “I haven’t won it, I want win one, and if I stay relatively healthy I’ll be in the running again.”
When pressed for his list of tournament favorites, Smoltz listed the usual suspects: Mulder, Romo, Curry. But he’s gunning for the top spot himself. “I just want to be in the last group one time. I just want to get in that last group and put myself in a position where I can win.”
The better-than-ever competition guarantees just one thing: If Smoltz makes it to that final group, it’s because he’s earned it.
You can see the complete list of odds for ACC favorites below. Romo is the favorite to repeat at 5/2, followed by Mulder (3/1) and Smoltz (6/1). Curry isn’t far behind at 15/1.
As for Barkley? He’s available at 7500/1 — but we still wouldn’t call that value.@)

Romo lapping the field........

.................................................

The final major of the year is set for next week. The Open Championship, the oldest major....148 years old :). The R&A with a special venue move in honor of one the greats in the game - Rory McIlroy. Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland. . The Open hasnt been at N Ireland in over 70 years. Rory has the course record of 61 and knows this course like the back of his hand. Needless to say, MASSIVE gallaries following Rory next week, The event is SOLD OUT, thursday-sunday.....it would a special moment for golf if Rory could win.

Rory is a prodigy. Parents were not well to do. They worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. One of this dad's jobs was a barman at Holywood Golf Course; he'd just drop Rory off, it was his home course .....and pick him up when it was time to go home

gettyimages-462619418.jpg

“Northern Ireland is a little bit like a village in that way,” Rory told Today’s Golf. “It’s obviously a country with nearly two million people, but at the same time it feels like anywhere I go I’ll run into someone I’ve met along the way, and no one lets me get above my station. People are very proud of me, but they’ll never let me forget where I’m from. There’s a ‘if you work hard, you’ll succeed’ mentality so people are genuinely happy for you when you succeed. But there is also a bit of a ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality.”

pressure? no doubt. Some strive on it. Dont believe he is of the type, based on history (Ryder Cup pressure moments, the last few yrs Major performances). Hoping Rory wins. Am a fan.

ytd he has been NOTHING SHORT OF BRILLIANT;

2 wins (The Players Championships, The RBC Canadian Open)

- top 10 finishes : 1st
- driving distance : 2nd
- strokes gained total: 1st
- strokes gained tee-to-green: 1st
- scoring average : 2nd

statistically no one touches these numbers.

what does Rory do at Royal Potrush?

Lydia Ko's fall has been dramatic, the equivalent I suppose of Jordan Spieth's. She shot 80 last weekend at the British , another missed cut at a major

David Leadbetter , her former coach, not holding back;

"It really is a very sad situation to observe," Leadbetter told Radio Sport. "Her team have to be thinking that they have made some huge mistakes taking an unbelievably talented player and turning her into ordinary.
"I hope she gets it back but restoring confidence is never the easiest thing to do. Her parents have a lot to answer for – a case of unbelievable ignorance.
"I'm angry, I'm sad because to me I know what she's capable of doing. And to see her play like this, it's just very sad to see."

"At the end of this year it'll be three years since we worked together. She had a phenomenal start to her career, probably a greater start to for me than Tiger Woods when you look at it from the number of tours she's played and her win ratio and major win ratio.
"The problem is when you start changing everything. As many changes as she's made, not only coaching, caddies and equipment, and sports psychologists and trainers, she's also changed her body type now.
"I think there's a lot of factors here. Who knows what's going on inside her head right now and obviously her team needs [to get] things together there because the longer it goes on, the tougher it is for her to get out of it."

"I like Lydia. She's a tremendous person, she's a tremendous ambassador for the game, she's a tremendous ambassador for New Zealand golf. It (returning as Ko's coach) would only be down to one provider and that to me would be where she was just in full control of what she was doing.
"I just think that those parental issues have been such that I think she's been misguided. I think her parents are naive as far as what should happen in the game of golf.
"I think her parents need to sort of let her go and do her thing. She's 21-22 years of age now. She could control her own career. She should know what's best for her.
"She's not a 12-year-old anymore. So they need to let her go, let her fly, let her leave the nest so to speak and find her own way. If she can do that, I mean yeah we could see Lydia back."
For now, Leadbetter has one piece of advice for Ko.
"My advice would be look to take a break right now. She doesn't need to play for the rest of the year. Just get her head together, relax, get away from the game and rethink this whole thing. There's probably a lot of factors going on here.
"Sometimes you've got to take a complete break from the game, get your mind rested, get your body rested and then [come back] and play next year."

"They tell her when to go to bed, what to eat, what to wear, when to practice and what to practice. And they expect her to win every tournament," Leadbetter once said.
