1st Major of the year is in the books. The PGA Championship is our second stop, May 16-19, 2019. Weather may be an issue as Bethpage Black is the host, Long Island , New York. Likely chilly, consequently the course may play even longer !! (par 71, 7465 yds ). In 2002 Bethpage State Park became the first publicly owned course to host a US Open, pretty cool.

One of the good old boys in his 60th year was a par putt away on the 72 hole from winning the open! Cannot call them weak. Mentally tougher than today's players as is evident by Jack's 19 runner-ups. No chokers back then. Don't think any of today's player will be leading a major on the 72nd hole months before their 60th birthday.

Jordan Spieth- Held on for a T8 at Colonial that piggybacked a T3 at Bethpage. He led both fields in strokes gained: putting. Mixed results at Muirfield Village where all three top 55s are top 20s.

Hideki Matsuyama- Steady as he goes on the fringes. Only one top-15 finish in last seven starts, but he's been just outside that bubble regularly. Two top 15s here since winning as a debutant in 2014.

Tony Finau- Modifications in his putting yielded a solo second at Colonial, but his tee-to-green work was just as solid. Expect the rally to keep rolling at Memorial where he's 4-for-4 with three top 15s

Matt Kuchar- The FedExCup points leader has two wins and two seconds this season. Tops on TOUR in GIR. Also No. 2 on Memorial's all-time money list with one victory (2013) among 10 top-15 finishes.

Rory McIlroy- Only one finish outside the top 10 in 10 starts in 2019. Leads TOUR in distance of all drives, strokes gained: off-the-tee and strokes gained: tee-to-green. Five top 15s in seven Memorials.

TODAY .... With two quality names in Kaymer and Scott in the final pairing, it was unlikely that both would have poor rounds, meaning something special was needed in the groups at -9 to -11. Cantlay responded, a 64 to win!!!! A Scott has to be shaking his head, what does he have to do to win? Spieth with yet another so so final round.

“Being able to win on this golf course, in front of Jack, making that putt on the last hole, I can’t tell you how good it feels,” he said.

My prediction that a Korean woman would be atop the leaderboard at the Women’s US Open was based on statistics and facts. Korean women are absolutely dominating the LPGA Tour. If you asked me again my answer would be the same but worded more carefully.

On Tuesday, he directed his ire at Tiger Woods, who Haney coached from 2004-2010. Following an even-par 72 on Friday at the Memorial Tournament, Woods was asked about his former coach's comments, and he held nothing back, saying Haney "deserved it," referring to his suspension. Apparently, these comments didn't reach Haney's desk until Tuesday afternoon. That, or he thought over how he would respond for a few days and came up with this statement below, which he posted to his Twitter and Instagram accounts:
"Amazing how Tiger Woods has become the moral authority on issues pertaining to women," Haney wrote. "I spent six great years coaching Tiger, and not once did he ever hear me utter one sexist or racist word. Obviously, Haney is referring to Woods' extramarital affairs, many of which occurred while he was coaching Woods. And not surprisingly, like his Sunday evening tweets following Lee6's win, his latest comments are not being received well.

Par 70, tree lined , just under 7000 yds, very short for PGA Tour standards. A shotmakers course, length provides little to no advantage. Dustin Johnson is the defending Champion, however, his win a yr ago was at Glen Abbey, an entirely different track. This track will favor a strong iron player, esp the approach shots to smaller sized greens, some with severe slopes. Again, bombers no advantage. So we could have a leaderboard similar to the last time this course hosted this Championship;

Rory in an effort to dial in the wedge game (he is poor from 75-100 yds , ranked outside the top 200) made a big change in the bag this week - 4 wedges .........and proceeds to LAP THE FIELD at The RBC Canadian Open.
