usually bold predictions like tor and balt 1 &2 yanks and boston 3 &4 end up wrong. Its like when Cleveland showed some life the previous year and sports illustrated picked them to win the world series circa 1985 and cleveland finished dead last, again.

even if it looks to many like Balt and Tor are getting better and Boston and NY are getting weaker, in the end its going to be same old same old.

Boston got better this off-season

red sox had the 2nd worst bullpen ERA in the majors last year, better only than the nightmare Arizona bullpen.

red sox bullpen was horrible last year. with the additions they added out there and a full year of Hansen and Papelbon coming up and the addition of Beckett, Red Sox pitching is looking up.

Plus the performances of Schilling and Foulke have nowhere to go but up from last year.

I don't think Schilling will be as good as he was, just a hunch though.

they broke up a lot of that team chemistry, they had going.

have seen the red sox at 90.5 over -120. thinking about it. thinking. I am conservative before I make homer bets. But they won 95 last year. 95!!!

with nothing, NOTHING from Schilling or Foulke. And a horrific bullpen, which they addressed under the radar. But division competitors will be better. still.... I am sorely tempted. Did take red sox +150 vs Yankees yesterday in head to head season wins. this is always a dogfight. should be -110 each way. if the stinkies were +150, I would take them. And still root against the bastards, but I would take them.

my guess between Schilling and Foulke one of them regains old form and one of them is useless. I dont know which. One thing about Schilling, he's "only" 39 compared to the 44 ( i think) that is Randy Johnson. That makes 39 seem downright young.

Choptalk,
I love the enthusiasm for the O's. I also agree they will be much better this year. Leo will work wonders with the young arms. He will make Bedard and Cabrera all-stars in the next two years. The team morale will be so much better with Millar and Conine in the clubhouse. They got rid of the two cancers, Sosa and Palmeiro. They signed a much better catcher in Ramon Hernandez. He is also tight with Tejada (one is the other's kids godfather). They made a nice quiet signing the other day of Richard Hidalgo. He is one of Melvin Mora's best friends. Also, watch out for Corey Patterson. He will have no pressure on him in Baltimore and is still only 26. The key to fighting for the wild card will be how well their young closer, Chris Ray, will do. the early word out of spring training is that set up man Latroy Hawkins looks really good.

The Yankees will win nothing. It's called the curse of the Moose. They've won nothing with all of that payroll since they got Mussina.

It's really not all that complicated. If Burnett lives up to everything and stays "healthy" along with a re-invented "healthy" Troy Glaus. Toronto will make some noise. End of story.

I think Toronto could still use another bat , but having Hillenbrandt , Wells, Glaus and Overbay down the middle of the lineup (while taking Hinske and Koskie out of the lineup) isn't too shabby.. Molina at catcher also an upgrade over Zaun... One other thing about that Jays lineup,, they used a whole lot of rookies and 2nd year players as starters last year,, Alex Rios, Aaron Hill, Reed Johnson, and Russ Adams.. You have to figure these guys are gonna get better with more experience.. For having a team salary of 75 million, I think this is a pretty good team Riccardi has assembled.. Doubt they win the division,, but they should give second place a good battle , and finish with more then 86 wins..

I don't see how you can say it should be -110 each way considering the yankees have won the division every year for the last 8-9 years. Johnson is 42 and a hell of a lot more dominant over his career than Schilling.

A lot of passionate fans getting ready for baseball, good discussion! :103631605

the question of Schilling and Beckett is : which one will spend more time on the DL. and Foulke Wakefield and Wells don't give me enough confidence to back 'em

Thanks Sal- No harm meant and I do respect Yankee history as well as some of the greatest legends in pinstripes
You just got to understand that I am a California product and the A's will always be #1

and I might add that some of my favorite Yankees were originally A's before being enticed by "the evil empire"(Reggie,Catfish,Goose,Giambi)
