I believe if the Jays manage to stay healthy for the season (mainly their roatation); they do have a solid chance of winning the wildcard in the AL East.

for the Yankees: Pavano has back trouble and likely wont be ready to start the season, that is horrible news for them. you need rest for back injuries, not a 162 game season ahead. yankee pitching has more questions than Boston

The Yankees remind me of the Texas Rangers of the late 90s. A bunch of hitters with no pitching.

Does everyone realize just how close the Yankees came last season to missing the playoffs all together.

If it had not been for what Chacon and Cook did in the second half of the season, they would not even have even made the playoffs.

Johney Damon was not the answer. The Yankess already score plenty of runs. They need more youth in the pitching department. Cashman/Stienbrenner are horriable GMs.

87 wins, wins that division. Look out for Baltimore. A real sleeper. The Yanks and the Sox both have real issues.

RJ is well over 40 now. Last season was not a fluke. It was a sign of things to come.

Mussiana was below average last season. Especially after the Allstar break.

Thats your #1 and #2 starters.

Does anyone honestly believe Chacon is going to do what he did last season? Come on folks. It aint happening. Then you have a still unproven Chin-Ming-Wong comming off of a major injury.

The Yankees have a real shot of imploding this season. The RedSox are not much better off. The loss of Daman hurts them more than it helps the Yankees.
The pitching is very supect, the starters and the closers.

Toronto just because they spent a bunch of money on players does not make them a good team automaticly. They way overspent for all there free agents this season.

Baltimore has a fighting chance. You heard it hear first.

I would be shocked if no AL EAST team won 95 games

Just remember this thread come October.

The AL East is by far the weakest division in the American League and the 2nd weakest division in all of baseball.

No Pitching.

Compared to whom? I mean who in the AL is better than the Yanks or Sox?

I'd say the White Sox and that's about it. And lets face it they did have a lot go right last year.

While the bottom teams of Toronto, Baltimore and Tampa Bay should be improving, the Yanks and Boston are coming back to the pack. This is the best division in baseball and I would be surprised if any team wins 95 or more.

Toronto has a decent staff with no offense. Troy Glaus is not going to solve there problems.

I think Haliday is the best pitcher in the AL.

Baltimore
Toronto
NYYanks
Boston
Tampa

Go Ahead and laugh.

I said Cook, I dont know what I was thinking. I meant to say Small.

Chacon or Small. Neither one of them is going to come close to that this season. Those 2 players right there saved the Yankees from missing the playoffs altogether. Nobody can argue that point. Its a 100% fact.

Go Ahead and laugh.

The best staffs in the AL are Cle, Chi and Oak...

To say Toronto doesn't have a good offense though? And the Orioles do lol? The Orioles had nothing after Mora and Tejada last season, they have done very little to improve...Who is going to protect Tejada? His production fell off considerably once pitchers stopped pitching to him.

Roberts , Mora , Tejada , that is a great 1-2-3 !

I think the two best teams are in the Central. Cleveland and Chicago .

With all those bats and Johnson and Mussina still there the Yankees cannot just be forgotten.

Thats the whole problem with your case. Johnson and Mussina still there. Thats the whole problem. Johnson and Mussina are way past there prime and they are 1 and 2

They have the 2nd worst starting staff in the AL East. Pitching wins titles, not hitting. Ask the Texas Rangers of the early 90s. Hell just ask the Yankees.

good point chop

Mussina has never won a title! I still find that hard to believe.

4.41 era last year
4.59 era year before

and 14 years in the leauge. that was also first time he had back to back seasons with an ERA over 4. So ya moose is probably done.

Jhonson started off the season slow as did many of the yanks and was able to get it down to 3.79 he's probably still got some stuff but it's not going to be enough. Which is astounding, bewilderding and just amazing either that or just plain stupid when considering the enormity that is the Yankees payroll
