It was much easier to associate those players with their teams back then...what a recognizeable list!

WNO- were you a Steelers guy?

No.. I grew up outside of Detroit .

We always got the Buffalo games as the AFC game on TV. So I grew up a huge O.J. fan.. Watched almost every game of his 2000 yard season.

I was always more a fan of players than a fan of teams. But If I had to pick a team that I always pulled for in the 70's it would have been the Raiders .

Stabler was the man..

Has anybody ever had stronger arm than Bert Jones ?

He could chuck it a long way....

Roger Carr would just take off running and Jones would heave it and hope Carr could catch up to it..

Bert Jones was a phenom out of LSU, NFL offensive player of the year in 1976, his career was just taking off when he met Al Bubba Baker and the Silverdome astroturf, was a ferocious hit, in a pre season game of all things....The Balto Colts and his career were never the same, he never recovered from that shoulder injury.

The AFC was loaded with dominant teams in the 70's the Colts were not quite to that elite level, the best shot they had was 1977 losing in the overtime thriller to Oakland 37-31, one of the greatest games in NFL history....Occasionally Madden will mention it as he did on MNF last week.

I'm sure you recall that one WNO....That damn game was blacked out here in Md. Today is the 28th anniversary of that game.

I recall that Dikta heaped lots of praise on the baltimore d, even placing them ahead of the 85 bears.

Bears had many strengths on offense, which allowed the defense plenty of rest time. I'd also rank the Buc superbowl defense in front of Chicago.

A more relevant debate is the 85 vs 05 bear defenses. The latter will prevail if they win this year's superbowl (a formidable task),.
