Bears just need to allow 14 points or fewer to break the Ravens all-time point defense record of 165. It's not out of the question. :suomi:

Green Bay should be good for a 3 spot this Saturday against them.

The Ravens had to go to Oakland for the AFC Championship game, a team at the time that was heavily favored and a great offensive team...

This is what Oakland did that year at home;

Oakland Raiders points scored at home 24,36,31,49,41,31,52,27 PPG

They scored 3 against Baltimore.

Not even close 85 Bears by far. When you also add in playoffs yoyal domination. Besides I believe you get more hall of famers out of the 85 team

Hines , I didn't say greatest defense, merely best of these two defenses...the '76 Steelers took a back seat to no team IMO, just a different era altogether.

this was a great defense until they had to play the raiders . lost to them in game 1 and then again in the afc championship game..

football was soooooo much better then....

No question huh, was it the fact the 85 Bears allowed more yards passing per game, more yards rushing per attempt, more points, or more total yards?

Yes they did, and they played without the starting backfield at oakland...I remember it well the game in Baltimore, they torched the Colts, that was the game the plane landed in the upper deck shortly after the game had ended, miraculously no one was hurt, or killed.

And no question about it, football was a million times more entertaining back then.

2000 Baltimore Ravens. Did it all knowing they're offense wouldn't be able to help them. Banks didn't throw a TD pass in like 5 straight games and they still came to play. That play Lewis made on Eddie George was simply amazing

When comparing eras you cannot compare the actual teams vs each other 'cause "the times they are a changing" you must compare it to their domination of their competition. The 85 Bears had the number one ranked defence an unprecedented 3 straight years, (would have been 4 if not for strike) ranked 2 in 88!!!! Best ever!! Would have had 3 straight shutouts in playoffs if Payton doesn't fumble giving pats a 3-0 lead! Remember Giants were minus yards in the third quarter of their playoff game, also held pats to minus yards at the half!!! Total domination! In 86 the Bears number one ranked defence, beat out a pretty good Giants D with LT in his prime!!!

Phd- point taken but this was a question about ONE season, not the '85 Bears having the best defense 4 times...they could only have the best defense once....Also the ravens just like Dallas in the early 90's lost many of their players the very next season to free agency...You simply can't keep a team that dominant together in this era...

Baltimore couldn't keep all of it's players, they basically had to tear down that defense as soon as they won the Super Bowl.

Slight edge to the Ravens.

Towards the end of the season and the playoffs it was almost impossible to move the ball on them.

My point was, keeping a team together in this era is impossible...Yes the Bears had a greater run as a defense, No statistcially they weren't as great for one season.

Ravens allowed 6.01 yards per pass attempt
Bears allowed 6.18 yards per pass attempt

Ravens 11 TDs 23 INT
Bears 12 TDs 31 INT

Ravens allowed 2.69 yards per rush

Both defenses carried their teams in my opinion. However, looking at the Ravens, their defense had to do it all by themselves, including scoring touchdowns. Because of that, I got with teh 2000 Ravens.
