what are you doing here anyway that cant be done in your homeland? I mean, its so freaking miserable that we surely don't want you hurt while you do whatever you are doing here, may be we can help getting you back to a safe location? I myself know that if I were living in a shithole, boring, dangerous place I would be busier leaving than spending time bitching about it in an internet forum

I think its safe to say this thread has gone to hell, NOONE denies that crime in CR is increasing , if its or not the load of immigration we have been taking from everywhere in central america thats a different issue

BUT imho if I were living in the US I wouldnt go to times square and yell what I think about the US politics, unless of course, I want to get killed right there

Immigrants/temporary residents of ANY country must be careful when opening their mouth, if you are in a foreign country you are a GUEST and better behave with respect, the same goes for the IDIOTS that go to the States and keep bashing about whatever they dont like

Lets all please grow up and learn to live in whats now a small world, for all we know we could all live in a different country next year and in that event we better give constructive criticism, fanatics should just shut the $#%^# up

I apoligize. Not to Wolfie and Camo08...I don't owe them anything. I apologize to MYSELF. That's right. I am apologizing to myself. Because I want to be the best person I can be in this world. Thanks to this thread, I know what a vicious bastard I'm turning into. Now, I'm happy to say, I'm that much closer to being the best person I can be and living in peace with others. Thank you all for giving me this opportunity.

Damn....I had heard that CR wasn't the oasis that it used to be, but this sounds worse than living in Tj.

San Jose has a serious petty crime problem -- pick pockets, car theft, vacant house robbery, etc. Has for a long time.

While violent crime (murder, armed robbery, etc) is getting worse, is still very low in comparison to other Latin American countries, and even most U.S. cities.

(I say this while my girlfriend was robbed at gunpoint by an Alfaro taxi driver a few weeks ago).

Getting a gun (concealed weapons) permit is not difficult at all, you don't even need residency. However shooting thiefs is frowned upon (will likely get you deported).

Security is a do-it-yourself item here. Gringos who don't have guard dogs, private security and secured parking are asking to get ripped off.

From what I've been reading in the papers, it seems that the police are starting to look the other way when thieves get shot by their would-be victims.

American, I agree with 99% of what you say in this thread but not with the above quote.

There are so many things to do and see in CR like the beaches, volcano, various hicking tours etc. This is one of the most beautiful countries I have been to. The only thing wrong with it is the amount of corruption and crime now.

thruthteller....I was mainly speaking for San Jose. The things you mentioned are ok, but they're 2 or 3 hours away and once you've done them it's kind of been there done that. I did get a little carried away with that statement though. But I stick to my take on San Jose that aside from bars (which basically consist of 1000 little hole in the wall joints), restaraunts (a few nice ones), movie theaters (please) and dreary soccer matches (right), there's not much else to do. The "nightlife" here is just awful and tends to cause you to search the depths of your wretched soul for reasons why you are sitting in some dump crowded with loud, drunken obnoctious 18 and 19 year olds. Not my idea of a nice night out anymore.

American,

In the U.S, some of those things are like 6-8 hours away by PLANE, depending where you live.

I think "american" and all other "AMERICANS" that don't like CR (or any other 3rd world country), should and "must" go back to NORTH AMERICA a.s.a.p. Costaricans sure do not need this kind of people here!! GO BACK TO THE UNITED STATES !!! US is my country, it is a great country, but I do not bother TICOS with my stupidity. American: PLEASE go back, leave us alone !! If you don't like it but you have to stay, toooo baaad !!!

I've lived in other countries, and I learned that you cannot fight a whole country just because you are used to something else, and most important, you can always go back to what you call home. This is my home

Let's get back to reality for a minute: Costa Rica doesn't even have street names.

It's not like it's extremely expensive or they need some advanced technology, they just don't know any better.
