i watch all the pawn and storage shows. i personally love them and enjoy watching them. the guy darrell (the gambler) on storage wars has been complaining lately b/c your getting 30X as many people as these auctions and the units are selling for 2/3/4X what they would have in the past....the last couple shows he's walked away with nothing and was on camera complaining about all the newbies bidding up the units looking for hidden treasure....i hope he's getting paid well from the show b/c his business is going to suffer from taking this type of business mainstream...he was actually on CNBC being interviewed about 2 weeks ago which i found crazy....

I saw this episode. It is a riviting show. Jared's girlfriend is doable as well

yes they did all lose money tonight, the units were bid up to ridiculous prices....i mean even for the just casual viewer its not hard to tell the market is becoming very saturated with new people wanting to attempt to do this....also just from watching this show you can see how its starting to become less about the units and more outside stuff....brandi and jared are only wearing outlaw clothing. they had a huge poster set up behind their desktop computer in their store....dave now has now started his own auction business...and was wearing YUP!! baseball cap that you can buy online...

pawn shops like (hardcore pawn in detriot) and not pawn stars in vegas is really where the money is at....you have the gold silver rush working for you when you can buy low and not have a problem getting top dollar + all the pawn loans etc...im certain the vegas pawn stars does better overall b/c of the popularity of the show but if you had capital and wanted to start a business hardcore pawn is the most realistic show you would want to imitate...thats a legit business your seeing been run on the tv show

...and ya jared's girl is doable but she is kind of a bitch...they have 2 kids...not sure if they are theirs together etc

That woman is a bitch and only a 6.5

These old timers making a living buying units are fucked for 5 years easily with the TV hype of a good unit.

I used to be a small time pot dealer in the 80's. I kept my stash in a storage unit in solana beach, usually around a pound, only since I had the unit, not for the MJ, no BS with me, I say I have it, I'll get that ounce tomorrow for you 100% for sure, it's there as agreed.

I felt better with it in storage.

I'd bet I'm not the only ( former) dealer that used storage facilities....of course disguised with standard junk.

Think about all the unemployed people watching those storage shows and think its a easy way to make a living...

Then they go buy a couple units and blow whatever money they have saved up. Poor suckers would be better off taking a trip to Vegas and playing blackjack.

So you buy a locker with 100 kilos of cocaine or a couple hundred of pounds of primo pot, or say a $1,000,000 worth of drugs....what do you do ?

Well I'm going to snort some cocaine ( once I feel it is good) like I'm Charlie Sheen. or smoke a Cheech &Chong cigar sized joint....actually I couldn't do that....two tokes and I'm done. I'd snort a couple grams of the coke if I was satisfied it was good....not sure how I do that ?

I'm not turning in millions worth of great cocaine, marijuana , etc.

I know pot decays with age, not as sure with coke.

Selling either in large bulk would be tough as hell for me....I think I'd enlist my brother to help me, I could at least trust him even though we aren't that close. split the shit and we get closer....

One of those guys ( I think Auction Kings) the one with the huge guy ( Ton) and his partner. the little guy said they make 80% of their money on 20% of the units, that probably means 90% of units are losers ( ?).

Newbies trying this will lose for sure, you will haul a LOT of stuff to the dump and you need a way to effectively sell a lot of varied stuff ( bicycles, comic books, books, art, furniture, musical instruments, and God knows what else). Furniture is basically unsaleable.

Only the high end stuff can work for a gambler. This cash cow died like correlated parlays....just different players.

Pawn Stars:

So, do you want to sell it or pawn it?

I've never heard anyone say "pawn it".

I've seen pawn guys, but 95% are sellers. I had a carpet layer buddy in Vegas, his power stretcher was pawned dozens of times at Al-Jays.

One black guy pawned his rig for like 40-50 k. Real people pawn and want it back ( hopefully).

People with weird shit want to sell.

the corollary is when these fucks sell it, they won't take less than what a new one sells for (

used) at Home Depot ( tools).

maybe that is unclear ?

You have a saw or something that is $125 brand new at Home Depot.

Pawn fucks might give you $30 on it ( at best) , out of pawn they want like $150 for it used, won't even take $90.

That's been my experience as well. I've been to a handful of pawn shops but all the prices on stuff is either at or higher than new prices??? I never see people buy stuff...

In reading the book on Pawn Stars you find out that that have *plenty*
of pawners. The issue is that people don't want to go on TV pawning
shit because it makes them look like degenerate losers.

And, since the show is somewhat scripted, you don't have people
pawning shit on TV.

What? No mention of the worst, most Fake show of them all, REPO MEN, on TRU, the most fake of them all..... So fake that they admit none of the people acting on the show ever worked in the repo industry, and that the show involve hired actors, yet people believe it to be real. I personally knew that show was fake after less than 30 sec watching it the first season.... just about the last 30sec I spent watching reality, Excuse me "Act-tuality" on TRU..... and that pawn show is on TRU as well, be willing to bet they get people in the parking lot to act up and get it on TV...!

That show is faker than any of them. Right up there with Operation Repo. I knew that I recognized the annoying douchebag. Turns out that both he and his 'partner', "Ton', are actors. The douchebag used to be on that Clean House show, which my daughter and I watched a lot back in the day.

I think that perhaps the only truly real 'reality show' is Hoarders. No way you could script/stage stuff that fucked up. I think that the ghetto pawn shop show is fairly real as well. Too bad they are going to ruin it by injecting all that bullshit family drama in.

I forgot the repo shows. Is there anything that isn't reality TV anymore ?

I guess Bait car is real enough ?

Then we also have a lot of Forensic files type of shows that have to be pretty cheap to make as well.

I could tell that shit was fake right away and haven't watched since. I had a buddy preaching to me it was real a few months ago. I just laughed.

That's not cool if they are just pure actors and not in that business at all.

http://www.totalnoid.com/2011/01/09/storage-wars-auction-hunters-and-auction-kings/

Ton and his partner sure appear to do awfully well on the show. I think most abandoned units are really full of crap that is hard to sell. Furniture is tough to get any money for, clothes and household items are not wanted.

I can see a guy/ family heading toward eviction and tossing their stuff in storage as a last ditch effort until they recover with plans to retrieve it "soon" and put it in their new pad....
then rent becomes a problem so they abandon it. You aren't going to store something like silver coins or gold jewelry that you could easily sell for the cash you need, or guns, tools and other stuff you can sell / pawn. Even if you did have something good, you go fetch that when you see you will be abandoning the unit and leave your old mattresses and crap there.

I'm thinking a lot of new guys are losing their (__*__) because of these shows !
