Bait car is pretty rad. Gotta admit I like that one.

I'm not sure the Police should really be entrapping people into stealing cars, however.

I want to see these cars automatically fill with cyanide gas once the thief is trapped in there.

Then there are the talent/ singing/ dancing shows and the stranded on an island shows.

reality TV has taken over and much of it is very fake.

I think I'd rather 70's and 80's sitcoms and detective shows instead of this garbage.

I'd rather see Magnum PI instead of dancing with the stars.

I forgot the poker shows. I guess that's reality TV, too ?

So we watch other people on TV as they fish, hunt gators, drive on ice roads, steal cars, pawn their shit, dance, drink their own urine to survive, buy up storage lockers, etc.

Maybe we should watch a movie once in awhile and actually do something the rest of the time ?

This reality stuff is about as mindless as 70's game shows.

There's a strange new one out, a survival show.

Naked and Afraid

The people ( a man and a woman...strangers) get dropped off somewhere like Africa with no clothes or food/water and I think they get one tool apiece and have to get to some faraway pick-up point in ten days.

I can see getting stranded somewhere....but why would you be naked ? It's like they are trying to outdo the barefoot guy !

They are really reaching now !

Havent read the thread but to answer the original question the reason there are so many of these shows is vary simple. MONEY. You see many of the these shows from Louisiana, why would they have so many from here??
Very simple, the state PAYS THEM to make them in the form of tax credits. They could stay in Cali and make Seinfeld episodes at a few hundred thousand an episode or make Pawn stars type shows with 2 cameras and a producer for practically nothing in the way of overhead. Seinfeld got over $400K per episode to do his show, the entire Honey Boo Boo cast gets $4000 a season. Simple math....

True, but the shows are so obviously staged. They have one with guys that repo airplanes....

http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/airplane-repo

so these guys say break into a hangar and do some basic safety checks before flying the craft ( reasonable) and run and hide when somebody enters the hangar.....I guess the camera crew is invisible ?

At least some of the first ones are a bit educational and show some cool things like Pawn Stars and American Pickers, but not the Detroit pawn shop one. Pretty easy to produce shows at low cost.

I's rather have the 70's and 80's with all the cop shows like Columbo, Kojack, Mannix, Rockford files and so many more.

Seinfeld made $1 million/episode and the rest of the cast $600K per episode in the final season. It was reported that Jerry was offered $5 million/episode and $1 million/episode for the rest of the cast to do a 10th season.

The cast of Pawn Stars is making $25K/episode (now, of course it didn't start that way)....
