I must say that i have not taken too many cabrides in my life except in foreign countries. I usually just have a rental car from the airport. But I can say in my life that i have NOT tipped cab drivers more than $1 over the posted fare. Why tip a cab driver when it is a stated fare?

Also, dont tip the blackjack or craps dealers too much because in the long run, it will cut your profit margin. Now DO tip poker dealers $2-10 per winning hand. I usually tip poker dealers around $2 for any hand below $100 won and then go up to $10 for an $800 hand.
Although last night at a no limit table I had a great hand with a straight with 2 callers and it was a $1400 pot, and I knew this dealer so I gave her $14. But I dont recommend tipping that much in poker as well. Poker dealers will just LOVE $2 per hand

:think2: :think2: :think2: :think2:

In some metro cities, such as Las Vegas, the driver does not RENT a cab for a day and/or week.

He works for a company, thus only makes a percentage of the fare.

They are thus HIGHLY dependent on the tips they make.

If it was personal how much it was won or lost on your trip, how come it isn't personal to say that you were betting 100's in blackjack (if you did, you could of been playing dollar BJ at the boardwalk for all I know.)

I personal don't like tipping. The dealer doesn't tip me if I lose so I don't feel the need to tip. However I will tip in Blackjack if the dealer isn't robodealer the asian monster just clearing out my money. Basically if you are having or trying to have a good time at your table and I make money when you are dealer. For having the right attitude I will tip. It all comes down to the service I receive in the end not so much the amount of money that I won.

One other thing I did not mention in craps..A dealer can be your best friend. If you have a clear style of play they can remind you if you forgot to make a bet, or remind you if you missed taking full odd's. They can keep the game moving if the dice are hot...So I believe it is very important to take care of them...G.

About this cab business....tip what you feel is right. If the cab has no AC and he is running around like Dale Jr going thru the tunnels instead of the surface route to the strip I don't feel the need to tip over 20% because he is getting stiffed by the cab company. At the end of the day he(her) choose his line of work I shouldn't feel the need to supply his income over and above the going rate of whatever the fare is. The fare is the fare it isn't a suggestion of how much something should cost.

When I am drunk and playing blackjack, I definitly over tip. I always place bets for the dealers as I want them to be in the action. On a double or split, many times I tell the dealer that if I win both bets, I will give them something after the hand. I was at Mandalay Bay one night at around 2am and I was playing anywhere from $50 to $500 BJ, but with all crazy numbers, like $51 or $137 and stuff like that. I went on a rush and ended up winning about 7k, but my sober buddy was kind enough to point out to me that I tipped somewhere between 4 or 5k on top of it.

aceduece - i agree with ya. over the course of the night, i must tip hundreds of dollars in blackjack. in craps, i oftentimes throw out two way 5 or 10 dollar bets. or for example on my last trip, i won a decent amount and after giving them the 2-way bets, and placing them on the passline with odds once, i still left the table and left them $75 as a tip. I dont know if that was too much though now that i have read this thread....:icon_conf

one gentleman next to me at the bellagio was playing 300 a hand on two hands. won 3,000, and at the end, gave a $100 chip as a tip. no tipping during at all. if they appreciate that just as much, i will save all the money during the game and only leave $100 at the end. will save me money in the long run.

And thats why they play the game.

What about those dam bathroom attendents? Whats the right amount to tip those bastards for putting the dam towel on your shoulder after brushing you off with the same brush he used on 1000 guys before you?

Maybe if colonge and gum was needed, i would drop a buck, but never do these guys get a dime from me. Just let me piss and wash off by myself in peace, i am big enough to do it on my own now.

Has anyone used this guys products before anyway?

here in costa rica, some moron came up with the genius idea of including a 10% tip on all services.......argh...so if you go to a restaurant, dont like anything you eat and get treated like crap, you still pay 10% tip...

argh.

its one more of those taxes that we have and that are completely stupid

"tax for fixing the roads" ..........give me a @#$@#$

1) costa rican departure tax= 26 dollars
2) resident departure tax=46??????? can anyone say unfair punishment.........

honestly in a country where they will steal a light buld or toilet paper .....without it being forced noone would tip, I also have a good laugh when in a place that is obviously under the radar...hence they pay no taxes.....they happily add "sales tax" and "service tax" to a piece of paper and expect you to pay it

Interesting topic, regarding tipping at the craps table. I tend to over tip as a matter of habit but I've been having second thoughts about it. I put down pass line/odds bets throughout the session( $5-$10) which can equate to $15-$30 per tip and if I'm up when coloring out, I'll tip again. Aside from witnessing higher stakes bettors not tipping at all, I've had dealers take the pass line wager tip and place it on their own preference, which is fine. My gripe and fortunately it is a rare occurance as I enjoy the game, are those dealers that attempt to hustle for tips. I have not experienced this at top tier casinos but have run into it at several others. I'll tip at my discretion and I'll be generous ,but don't pressure me like I'm some hick that doesn't know any f'n better. Anyone else run into this ?

buckpasser - many dealers will not be nice to you if you never throw them a tip. especially if you are winning.

So true.

I don't agree with tipping cocktail waitresses more than dealers though. Cocktail waitresses are usually old and gruff. $2 per beer Fishead?? If it was a friday night, and all the tables were full, and half of the players in a pit were ordering beverages, the waitress would be earning about $6/table, and about $60 per pit, per trip. 4 trips/hour to that pit about right?? That equals about $240 an hour. Give me a break.

No way a cocktail waitress deserves that much.

I tip a 50 cent chip every beverage I get.

Totall agree BAUS. You have to look at what it equates to. This tipping is out of hand. Sit at a poker table and watch the tips the dealer gets. Its a joke. $1-$5 a pot. Thats just in the $5/$10 game i was watching. Thats insane, that equates to maybe around $60 an hour!!! $60 an hour to deal out cards? You think that is what it should be ? Same with cocktail waitresses, everytime they come to the table..the deliver a round of drinks..and pick up like $10 from the table. They are cranking in a ton. The worst part is that these people totally expect it. And i've said it before the whole thing is backwards. It should be that your tip is based on your performance. If you do your job well, and the customer is satisfied, you get a little bonus. I have no problem with that. But now it seems that if you don't tip...you get shit service. And the only ones that get the good service, are the idiots that are overtipping. I let it be known. I have no problem tipping good dealers, that do their job well, add enjoyment to the game, and don't beg for tips. These tip whores I can't stand.

I was at WSOP last week. I was in conversation with a dealer. He was dealing the cash games at the time. He told me that it sickened him that he dealt a big game $50/$100 NLHE and the tips were so small. He said many of the pots were over 10k. He thinks that you should get tipped $25 at least on pots like that! WHY!!!!! It dosen't matter if you are dealing a 25cent/50cent game...or a $300/$600 game!!! Your job is do deal out the hand and push the chips to the winner !!! Why do they think they deserve more, based on what you won ??? I don't get it. Why should it be a % of your win? Everyone thinks that. Its stupid. Dealers all the time, I hear....man he won 10k, and only gave us $50. You didn't do anything to make him win the 10k! You did the same job that netted the guy next to him $100! He gave you $10, and you were happy. Am I insane? Does this make sense? If I win a million dollars, should i give the dealer like 20k ? Thats stupid!
