I think you guys are still misunderstanding what I'm trying to say. I agree with you that there are still some decent bands out there making good music. But I still haven't seen that one artist/group that has come out and knocked my socks off with music that I'm going to remember 40 years from now. And then turned around and repeated it over and over like the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Young, Springsteen did. There hasn't been anybody come along in the last 30 years that I would consider that "special" kind of talent. I also don't want you to think it's a generational bias thing. I actually think the generation before me were much more creative than my generation. They are the ones who invented Jazz and the Blues. And my generation simply ripped off and updated their sound. I hear a lot of that sound in the early Stones, Led Zeppelin, Doors music. And even the generations before them wrote the best symphony and opera music in history. And has never been surpassed by today's artists. That's why their still playing symphony's from the 1700's & 1800's. Today we have a whole new generation of music called hip hop and rap. And I don't think this so-called music will ever stand the test of time because it has no melody, and very little song structure...I don't even remember any of this music that was done in the 90's, much less be remembered 40 years from now. I still think much of the downfall in today's music has to do with the record companies than anything else. You've got to have that one breakout hit or you have to look or dress different if your going to be signed. Your songwriting alone won't cut it today. Same goes for movies. You have to be very lucky to be able to get your independent movie picked up by a major studio. Slumdog Millionaire did it a couple years ago. But it doesn't happen very often. Studios are still looking for their 500 million dollar blockbuster paycheck more than a well acted creative independent movie. This is why many of your best movies in the last 20 years have come from Europe. Their more willing to take chances with their film makers.
