In BC, Canada hospitals have made beds available by cancelling non essential surgeries. Since the economy is mostly shutdown, there are fewer road accidents & fatalities, which frees up hospitals for others.

Got a really good friend who is one of the head ER nurses. She said it's a ghost town. They are sending workers home from lack of patients.

I saw the medical field lost 43k jobs last month......which I was a little suprised

Ghost towns in a lot of them around Dallas. That’s according to nurses and doctors.
A friend’s daughter broke her arm a couple days ago...she was the only patient on an entire floor.

Yapping fear mongering health professionals heads must roll

you may not believe this, but different geograhic areas have have different have
different levels of demand even for medical services. if I had a non life threatening
condition, i'd avoid hospitals or ERs too for now.

You may not believe that the entire country doesn’t need to be locked down for this very reason either.

Wife is a PACU nurse in Las Vegas. That is critical care and she works per diem (as needed). She hasn't worked for 2.5 weeks as they canceled all of the elective surgeries and there is no need in the rest of the hospital.

It's actually refreshing to hear comments from people across the country that don't seem to agree in the least with the sensationalized media stories that you hear on a daily basis. I suspect those media stories are predominately from one area....New York. I just opened my wife's eyes after she read many of your comments.

I have friends who are ER doctors and nurses. Shit was CRAZY a few weeks ago.

Hospitals are more prepared now.

Its also crazy that people in the medical field are telling me that they are either getting furloghed or a major droppage of hours.

Hopefully we are ALL back to normal much sooner than later

Why would hospitals be laying off thousands of workers if they are all overwhelmed? Wouldn't this be an all hands on deck situation?

A mounting casualty of coronavirus crisis: Health care jobs

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Tens of thousands of medical workers across the United States are suddenly out of work as operating rooms and doctor’s offices go dark, casualties of urgent calls to prioritize coronavirus patients at overwhelmed hospitals and of the economic waves the crisis is churning.

Even as hospitals scrounge for professionals from the industry to treat the burgeoning numbers of people with COVID-19, others are on the sidelines as elective procedures, diagnostics and appointments are canceled or postponed.

For instance, many nurse anesthetists in Pennsylvania have been laid off, even though they are particularly critical to the coronavirus response because they can help intubate patients and manage them on ventilators.

“I certainly never thought there would be a day as a nurse that I would be filing for unemployment, so it’s quite surreal for all of us,” said Jess Poole, a nurse anesthetist who, until a couple weeks ago, worked for an anesthesia practice in the Pittsburgh area.

They want "healthy" people to stay out of hospitals.

They dont want anyone having any "elective" surgeries at the moment.

They want to create more room in the hospital just in case they need it.

I have heard of a few out patient centers that may go out of business because of this

Wasn’t practically every governor calling for retired health care workers to return as backup staff? If so, that would make sense.

Who said they're overwhelmed? Where?

In some hospitals in Italy they were overwhelmed. Maybe in parts of NYC, too? Many places, it seems, are prepping for the (possible/probable) tidal wave to come.

Some of you people are clueless. My daughter works in SOUTH JERSEY HOSPITAL. ( Vineland and Mullica Hill ) she has been working 16 hour shifts and sleeping at the hospital. 200 more deaths for NJ today. 4 to 6 hour waits in emergency rooms.
