Some of the games I attended that were out of the ordinary were

#1 Either in 87 or 88 I went to a Phillies games and the Phillies pitcher Kevin Gross was tossed out of the game for having sandpaper on his glove. I was 11 or 12 and i think it was against the Cubs or Expos.

#2 Either 92 or 93 I went to an Orioles game against Seattle. During Seattle's batting batting practice I was right next to their dugout on the right side getting autographs. It sounded like Bill Hassleman (a backup catcher) cracked his bat. He went into the dugout and put white tape on it. I asked him for the bat. I can't remember what he said, but he went in for another round of BP. He came back to the dugout and put more tape on it. I asked him again. He didn't answer. He took another round. When he was finally done, I asked him a third time, he got all pissy and said "here kid, take the bat". I was excited since it was the 1st cracked bat I got at a MLB game. Anyway, during Hasslemans first at bat he hit a homer (possibly a grand slam) of Mussina. Hassleman's next at bat he got pluncked by Mussina. This started a huge brawl. Relief pitchers were jumping down from the outfield wall. The fight lasted about 10 minutes. Weird coincidence.

#3 This is a minor one. I was getting autographs next to the dugout at a Scranton/Wilkes barre Red Barons game AAA of Phillies at the time. In 89 or 90 Toledo's manager was Johnny Wockenfuss. He used to be a major league catcher. Either at the end of batting practice or prior to the players coming back into the dugout 30 minutes before the game, I turned and saw Wockenfuss fighting w/ a player. I can't remember who. The player was trying to choke Wockenfuss with both hands or vice versa. It was real and the players/coaches quickly broke it up. Strange to say the least.

Oddessa hooked me up with ringside tickets\VIP passes to an IFC fight at the Pepsi Center & I somehow ended up being the belt presenter to Babalu when he won it. We sat next to Chuck right behind the announcers. Absolute best seats in the entire place.

Thanks Joey! :toast:

December of 1982 when the Redskins beat Dallas in the NFC Championship Game at RFK. I swear the stadium was rocking so much , I thought it may have easily collapsed. I was so drunk and happy when the Skins destroyed Danny F***ing White and the CowGirls. When Dexter Manley knocked him out late in the game, and Danny was sitting there, not knowing where he was, Oh My God, what a joyful , joyful moment! Riggo breaking through the line on 4th and 1 against Miami was great two weeks later, but not in the same league as beating Dallas in the League Championship.

P.S. Was really sweet after the O's couldn't beat the brewers, several months earlier, as we have discussed here before.

Was at an A's/Bosox ALCS game and the umpire came from behinde the plate and waved his left arm up and kicked the Rocket out of the game.

I;m like WTF did I miss something?

Of course when I got home and watched sportscenter you could see Clemons mouthing the Ump.

I;ve always thought Roger was/is a punk!

Was a delay in the action as a new pitcher had all the time he needed to warm up and those were the good ole days as we went out to our car and refilled our beers as they let you walk out with a beer in your hand.

Monday Night Football Game........

I was at a MNF Dolphin game in the Orange Bowl back in the days Howard Cosell was doing the ABC TV broadcast. Also listening to the game on a transistor radio when they broke in and said John Lennon had been shot in New York City !!

Saw Rick Wise (8/2/71) throw a 11 hit CG shutout of the Braves In Philly. Never remember seeing or hearing of shutout when allowing that many hits since even with multiple pitchers. Turned out to be only time I saw Aaron in person. After that seaon they traded Wise to cards for Carlton in one of all time blunders though Wise was a pretty good pitcher just not a HOF-er like Lefty.

90-91ish...Neb foots night game in rain\sleet\ice. Beat Okla St(?) I think. Stormed the field & climbed up the backs of enough people to end up getting hoisted up to the goalpost. Miracle that I didn't end up getting my leg busted and\or crushed because I ended up sliding down to the corner that it came down on. The landing was not cool-rather frantic panic to get my leg out of under the SOB(let alone the mob collapsing in on it).

Those were the days-We lived 2 blocks from the stadium & had kegs every game day. Parents & families would be rolling into town at 9am & ready to start their pregame partying & those of us that lived there had been up until 4am getting loaded.

Nothing like being in a liquor store at 9am picking up a keg & realizing that you don't have any shoes on. To any of you guys still in college-Live it up & live it up now, because you'll never be as free as you are now.

Tigers improbable comeback in the late innings (I think it was 10 or 11 runs they came back in the last 2 innings) over the Yanks back at Tiger Stadium back in the Trammell/Whitaker days.

At Comerica a few years back, about 3 old timers got carted off in the stands in a couple of innings from foul balls off the noggin. It was hard to pick up the ball from where they were sitting I guess.

I remember seeing Wilt Chamberlain score 66 points against The Boston Celtics at the old Boston Garden in 1961. The Celtics won the game by double figures. Chamberlain at the time was in his second year and an incredible offensive force. Wilt averaged 50 points a game that year, a record that is unlikely to be ever matched.

:lolBIG: The Celts won by double digits even though Wilt got 66! Reminds me of an NBA Digest from the 80's with Alex English on the cover with a caption, "My Best Game Ever!" The story told how Alex scored 44 in the game but, the funny thing was, when you looked at the boxscore of the game, the Nuggets lost !:lolBIG:

Due to a scheduling quirk in 1991, a round 2 playoff game between the Celtics and Pistons was forced to be played on a Tuesday afternoon. This was because the Bruins owned the Garden and had playoff games already scheduled and the building was unavailable at night.

It turned out that a ton of fans decided to show up to try and score tickets on the street. A scalper friend who owed me money had promised the day before to get me into the game. Anyway, tickets became very scarce and just before game time he hits me with 2 seats 2 rows behind the Pistons bench (due to the market and the quality of the seats, I had to pay for them).

In the 2nd half, during a timeout a bird somehow gets in the building and is flying around the arena. This Celtic fans all start yelling in unison ... "Larry .... Larry ... Larry ... Larry ...". It was really ridiculous.

The aging Celtics won the game to tie the series at 1-1. Pistons eventually won the series and then got swept by the Bulls.

1984 finals game 7 Lakers/Celtics. A good friend of mine is one the biggest scalpers in New England. He called me at 3:30 that day and said he had two extra tix for me. I have never seen a place so wild. We were in the stadium seats and had a guy on some kind of drugs that was going nuts the entire game. He would not let you sit without gettin in your face to get up and cheer. I had no prob with it but some others might have. By the 4th he was holding his head and coming down off those drugs but what a display he put on. Great game too and it was the first series between us and the Lakers, Bird vs Magic. It came down to the last minute and was a great game. It does not get much bigger than NBA game 7 finals Celtic/Lakers.

Stanley Cup Finals Game one Boston Garden 1972.

I was at Stanley Cup Final game one between the New York Rangers and The Boston Bruins in the old Boston Garden in 1972 when Garnet "Ace" Bailey scored the game winning goal with a rink long rush up the left boards and around the back of the net to tuck the puck into the far side against veteran Ranger goalie Ed Giacomin with about a minute to go after The Rangers had tied the game late in the third at 5-5 coming back from down 4 goals (5-1).

Sadly Garnett Bailey and Mark Bavis, two scouts employed by the Los Angeles Kings (and thousands of others), were killed the morning of September 11th. 2001 when their jet United Airlines Flt 175 was intentionally crashed into The World Trade Center Tower #2.

Ace was the 4th line center for The Bruins and an ulikely hero he had long blond hair at the time when players did not play with helmets, although he didn't play much Ace was a big fan favorite for his flashy style.

"Ace" Bailey during his heday at Boston garden, this might be the actual moment just before he tucked the puck in the net to beat the Rangers that day.

The goal remains one of the most famous in Bruins history, led by the great Bobby Orr they won the cup in six games that year (their last Stanley Cup win since).

Bill Lee of Red Sox had a 13 hit CG shutout in very early June 1977
