Or maybe all spelling-bee champs are nerds. Ktvvegas loves the state subsidized public schools too much to acknowledge that possibility.

He was on Jimmy Kimmel the other night, and he was HORRIBLE

Jimmy couldn't stop laughing at the kid

He's like "during the spelling bee you have a few mins to answer, on my show we really don't have that much time"

I hate to be superficial, but if you look at this kids mom...there would be no doubt why he turned out this way

He probably spends 10 hours a day studying the dictionary and NEVER socializes. I'd rather my kid not be SO smart, but be a lot more functional in the real world

Sit back and enjoy

I have met roughly 25-30 home schooled kids, all of whom fit my personal definition of nerds. And 10 of them are my cousins. Yes they are losers, and its sad to me what the parents put them thru. None of them could tell you who Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan is. They do not have TV. I think the odds of having a home schooled kid and having him turn out socially adequate is very slim.

First off, simmer down. I'm sure your dad-of-the-year mug is not in jeopardy here. No where did I say that "all" home schooled kids are inept. You've taken a big leap into a logical fallacy.

Secondly, my subject said "home schooling takes a hit". Not that home schooling sucks or is worse than public schools or anything. Was merely commenting on perceptions.

This kid is socially retarded (and a bit of a dick actually) and the point was inferred to the viewer that part of his success was as a result of him being home schooled.

A widely held belief (right or wrong) about home schooling is that it creates kids that, while excelling above the curve academically, are socially awkward or even inept. This kid did nothing to dispel that belief.

YOU Don't Realize When You ARE In Public School The Amount Of Hard Knocks And Social Peer pressure You Learn That Could NEVER BE Learned in home school ...Not To say That Its Always A Good Thing For Kids To Go Through that Always , BUT It GETS YOu PREpared For REEEL Life Situations and How To DEal with people On a social Level. Plus, You Are NOT Completely naive !

If public schools set you up where you are, I think home schooling just got my vote.

You may claim to be socially prepared, but the bulk of your posts are amazingly juvenile or even retarded. Your spelling, diction and bizarre use of capital letters seems less like someone prepared for the real world, and more suited for someone destined for a career writing ransom notes.

Those spelling bees have more laughs per hour than anything else. Only saw a little this year dammit.

Typical home-schooled kid here -- what you gain in grade avg you badly sacrifice all things social. This trend is very typical of the overprotective parents of current times - for fuq sake, let the kids go outside, play baseball and come home with a cut on the knee cap! If that happens now parents are afraid that they will be viewed as negligent parents -- oh the horror!!!
Plus most of these types only let their precious offspring participate in organized sports so there is an "Adult" SUPERVISING! And don't get me started on how parents want to be the Best Friend of their kids...sickening.

Guys....he clearly has a social disorder like Aspergers Syndrome or something. I don't think it has to do with home schooling.

A faculty member at the university I attended whom I respect above all homeschooled her 2 kids for most of their lives. They also attended public schools briefly when they requested it. Both have their positives and negatives, but I've met both kids (both in their 20s) and both successful, sociable, intelligent kids.

Honestly, why not homeschool your kids? Do you know what the state of affairs is in our public school education system these days? It's probably the most important issue in our next election but one that people overlook a bit...

A faculty member of Notre Dame will be more likely to produce good results homeschooling. Not hardly a good measuring stick

Honestly, why not homeschool your kids?

If you do you would have to live in a family area and make them play sports (should be done anyway).

That Kid Is A Black Belt

Sounds good but all it really means is that you aren't a beginner anymore. Kind of like a square understanding what ev is. Ok maybe not even that. Many martial art schools really teach it as a sport and not combat anyway, so chances are he'd still get beat up if he went to public school. I would bet that his parents encouraged it so he wouldn't get beaten up, or the kid did it to be "superior".

recent studies have shown the amount of money a person makes is not tied to IQ.

I now understand. Even if this kid grows up and has some marketable talant... who would hire an asshole?

You need to hire an entry level (chemist, lab tech, or research assistant)

150 IQ zero social skills, total ass

or

120 IQ pretty cool, some social skills, little shy

or

100 IQ and a freaking great guy
