^^^^^^ I really hope he's gone, Kyrie Starbury is the most overrated player in the NBA

In two years with the C's, the team won 70% of their games without him and 60% with him

In the playoffs, they beat the Bucks and took the Cavs to 7 games in the conference finals without him, the chemistry looked great. With him, they were routed by the Bucks in 5 games and literally looked dysfunctional with him at the helm.

Even before he arrived, a young and moderately talented team advanced to the conference finals, exceeding everyone's expectations

I won't miss Kyrie one iota

I think the Celtics are in some trouble.

The need a top level superstar. Which are very hard to come by in the NBA. Because they are so hard to come by and many teams aren't in the running for them. Those teams have to overpay for the 2nd level guys, the "stars". These guys will also get near max deals because of the competition.

Say the max is 35 million a year. This creates a league where players like :

-Gianis
-Lebron
-Durant
-Harden
-Leonard

They all make 35 mil .

The other group:

-T Harris
-J Butler
-Hortford

Some team with money to spend that can't get the superstars will spend max money to get these guys. So these guys will make the same 35 mil. They aren't half as valuable!

The Celtics are going to be in trouble because they have too many "star" type players and no superstars who are actually worth the money. Even Kyrie and Hayward at their peak powers aren't in that top tier. If J.Brown and Tatum keep improving some team will offer them max deals in the not to distant future so the Celts would have to decide before that whether to extend them big.

C's will be fine. Brown and Tatum are still babies, 22 and 21. Hayward will have a year of recovery behind him. They were better with Rozier than Kyrie, who's only 25. Smart is a great piece, he's 25.

I'm most concerned about Big Al, I want him and Morris back, but there are free agents that can replace them.

And they still own a shitload of 1st round picks too

What I'd like to see is the Nets sign Kyrie so they let DeAngelo Russell out of restricted FA rights and he can just be unrestricted. Then I'd try to get him, he's 23, 6'5 so bigger combo guard , good handle/shooter, can play off ball. He just has a lot of upside. Went through some BS early in his career as his rookie year was the same year of the Kobe farewell tour nonsense then Magic questioned his leadership and traded him (kid was like 20, obviously those comments look pretty worthless now given Magic run as an exec) Finally starting to come into his own. Yeah he isn't AD or Kawhi or Paul George but you gotta recalibrate expectations. He fits the timeline of Brown/Tatum/Smart as well.

You gotta let Horford go to do this but I think Ainge knows comparing the 2018 playoff run to the 2019 2nd rd blowout is not apples to apples. The East got much, much better. The Bucks/Sixers/Raptors all ascended from '18 to '19 (they all could be dented in FA in 2 weeks but still...) and that was the weakest playoff team LeBron ever played on. It was a nice run, but I wouldn't overrate it too much and just go paying Horford/Morris/Rozier to keep that team intact. You're gonna need more in the East now probably. Better to take a step back to take two forward.

Isn't Kemba a shooting guard?

We need a point.

Kemba would be a great catch of the C's. Seems like a great fit. Other then being a little to small to be good on the defensive end.

True point guards are rare and don't have much to do with success anymore it seems. Curry is a great passer, but is certainly shoot first. None of Lebrons teams had a true point guard.

The idea of having one guard who does all the dribbling and assists, then having another guard just shoot and run off screens is kind of a thing from the past. Most of the top guys are combo guards, with some exceptions like Klay Thjompson or JJ Redick.

He can play the 1 or the 2

He's the polar opposite of Kyrie in the locker room and in personality and in leadership

Kemba would be fantastic. Always liked Isaiah Thomas when he was there at point
