I don't, I don't think he's a Brad Stevens' type of guy. Watching him play the last 4 games of this series was hard, he's just not a fit.

However, I defer my judgment to Danny and Brad, I think they're two of the best

Since they can pay him more, I think that's still a thing, I hope they can sign and trade him

Not a C’s fan, but if you lack a grade 1A superstar in today’s NBA you have zero percent chance for a title and a minuscule chance to even play for a title. Boston was the only team of the final 8 who lacked that grade 1A talent. Run your team well, play disciplined ball, team chemistry, right moves in the draft/free agency and a great coach, and you still regress year over year. If your depending on Irving, who’s a rapidly depreciating assert and a 1B player at best, you’re done.

Boston certainly isn’t stupid, they know this that’s why they have been circling Kawhi, AD at every turn, because that’s there only chance. I believe Pats mentioned it recently in another thread, and he was on the money, C’s will push hard for AD and with Ingram’s injury status they have to be the fav. Some combination of Tatum/Brown and picks gets it done. Kawhi rolls out of TOR, Durant rolls out of GS, it will be more interesting than years past.

Kyrie Irving is to Brad Stevens what Chad Johnson was to Tom Brady, a man that uses his own playbook

The dots don't connect

Maybe I'm the lone one, but I want him back, with another superstar please.

If it's him or Brad then its an easy decision for me, bye bye Brad (sad as that is to say).

I'm the polar opposite, Brad stays for a long long long time

What's with this "another superstar" stuff? :)

It's 100% horse shit that an Indy born and raised coach would coach the Celtics.

Shouldn't even be legal

This isn't like a player who is drafted to a team.

But you guys put No blame on Stevens ?

Not to take away anything from the Bucks ( who I think is the best team in the NBA )

I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt this year. His teams have overachieved every year and looked awesome last year without Kyrie. As soon as the superstar who's way too high on himself shows up, they look like shit, all the teamwork and chemistry disappears

That's what it looks like to me from my TV :)

We'll see if he really is the next Stefan Starbury, teams go backwards when he shows and and get better when he leaves

Love how Hayward gets absolutely no blame in all these Willie threads. Hmmm wonder why?

If Kyrie is gone, then so is your chance at another star joining this team.

The way the NBA is set up, players running the league, then we'll need to win with Tatum - Brown - Rozier - Hayward. :(

There are a lot of moving parts but first thing will be to try to get AD. If the Celts were to get AD then ideally you would re-sign Kyrie just because your over the cap anyway (beats losing him for nothing) and then if it doesn't work next year you just deal him. This is pretty similar to what the Clippers did with Blake Griffin.

Al Horford is also likely going to opt out of his deal so they gotta convince him to stay as well. Jaylen Brown is eligible for an extension and his agent likely knows that he is gonna be able to command a big payday because of all the $ available since all those contracts signed in '16 and '17 when the TV money went up are now beginning to expire. Just a ton of moving parts.

But you get AD, try to put the most talent on the court in 2019 and figure the rest out later.

If you can't get AD for whatever reason, then I'd say let Kyrie walk and build around the young guys. Also fwiw, if Kyrie walks on his own and AD is lukewarm on the Celts. I'd say fuck it and deal for him anyway, he's that good to take the risk. Scared money don't make money. He probably thinks Kyrie is a clown anyway.

As far as Kyrie goes, I could see his career becoming pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things from here. Really it wouldn't shock me if his max offers dried up and he ended up signing with a team like the Magic that has no real fan base and easy expectations and he could just be the #1 guy on a decent team there. He just doesn't really fit into good teams very well unless the best player on those teams also happens to be 1 of the best players ever or you've got a great fit of guys around him. This is actually not even that big of an indictment on him as it sounds, many shoot first/scoring point guards don't fit into good teams as easily as other prototypes of players.

Maybe the Knicks max him with Durant but I really doubt KD is that stupid, that's a horrible fit. I'd be fading that team if that happened unless they had another big name with them.

Blame is not the right word but I do think his edge has perhaps diminished some since coming into the league. The game has changed a lot the last 7-8 years and the Celts were very early to a lot of those changes. More egalitarian style of play, ball movement, lot of 3's and he was just very early in installing a lot of these concepts. Kinda similar to the early 00's A's in baseball. And the East was really bad during this time and it is starting to get better.

Still think he is a excellent coach but the inefficiencies that he was exploiting are perhaps drying up a little.

AD has 1 playoff win in the 2nd round his entire career. The team he is on right now is owned by a widow of the owner.

You put him on the Celts with those guys you just mentioned and Horford for a year (if he stays) and I think there is a very good chance that he would re-sign. Well worth the risk.

I really doubt playing with Kyrie Irving or not is some huge litmus test for whether he wants to be in Boston or not. But he may not want to be there otherwise, we'll see.

Typical dumbass comment, talking about about a guy coming off a catastrophic injury

I wonder if Gordon will ever be back to his old self ever again?

I actually texted my buddy this morning (and he agreed) the we're lucky the HEAT didnt sign him 2 summers ago.
