Hook me up guys....Thinking about opening up a store or eatery...looking for ideas.

Hawaii is a dead place and there are probably many untapped resources. Would be good for the state, the visitors, and the guy that brings them here.

Open a store that sells fake lais, puka shells and macadamia nuts. I know a store like that would kill it in California.

buy an existing subway/mcdonalds then. quiznos is also a growing sub chain that looks to be on the up. also the ups store would be another no brainer with all the people sending packages and letters.

gas station/convenience store.

Is now the right time to be opening up gas stations? On an island?

Seems like the ones here are closing down. is there anything that would attract people here?

Tim Horton's. Canadian snowbirds would love it -- it's the #1 food outlet in Canada now, surpassing McD's... You'll make a killing.

Don't get into a food delivery franchise, drivers are added liability. Remember Domino's 30-minutes-or-free delivery policy, which they finally revoked in the early 90's due to over 100 pending Personal Injury lawsuits involving crazy teen delivery drivers plowing over pedestrians to meet their deadlines. You know, I think i'll play GTA4 right now....

How about an L&L? j/k

Daily Grind is a franchise coffee chain that seems to do well in SoCal. I have also seen them in other parts of the country when traveling.

Do you guys have Dunkin' Donuts in Hawaii? They are finally making their way to the west coast and I think they won't be a fad like Krispy Kreme was. DD's coffee a strong draw even for non-donut eaters.

FYI, in Ventura County (SoCal), there have been 3 or 4 Quizno's that have closed. Jersey Mike's (franchises) have been out here for a few years now but I feel they are overpriced - they have a griddle for hot sandwiches.

Max's Chicken from the Philippines would do well and they already have restaurants open in CA.

It seems like pizza franchises (Papa Johns, Little Caesars, etc.) are always opening and I rarely see them close down.

I'm familiar with the restaurant design/construction field so let me know if you have any questions. I will only charge you a Kona Longboarder Ale when I'm out there next month.:drink:

This isn't a franchise per se...we bought a license agreement from this company ... it's childrens computer software.

www.imaginetomorrow.com

We got an old airport shuttle bus and converted into a mobile classroom. My wife takes it to daycare facilities, schools, etc...bad thing is there isn't really a lot of brand knowledge so she build it up the hard way...she hit the pavement and talked to a lot of people. It was slow the first six months while she figured out what she was doing, but recently it's been doing really well. Nice thing is because it's a license agreement and not a franchise, we don't pay any royalties or anything like that. Just paid for the license agreement and that's it.

Hawaii is such a weird place. Very different than the continental US. We have had a few Dunkin Donuts here...and I think I've seen a few of them close down. Oahu people are in love with Krisp Kremes. We are the only idiots that pack 3 dozen donuts on a plane ride from vegas to honolulu. Now a neighbor island has Krispy Kremes and it is the place to go when people island hop....weird.

But regardless of the weirdness, the key is figuring out what will sell and what wont. Too bad there is no franchise opportunities, but us hawaii people are crazy for in-and-out burgers, olive garden, bath-and-body works, victoria's secret, and sonics....well, none of those are here but when we go to the mainland, they overload on this stuff.

Existing things that do well....we have one Dave and Busters that does fine, Starbucks of course does good.....other than that, I think location is a big part for some of the more common places (McDonalds, Jack In the Box, etc.)

These ideas are great although not sure how many of them are available for franchise.

The Tim horton one sounds good...the scary thing is the lack of success from Dunkin Donuts....totally different market?

Seriously thinking of looking into the fiveguys one too.

Should also add...if you are dead set on fast food...this place is the bomb. It's like Chipotle but much better IMO...

These things are opening all over the place
