I think there is a differance between flops like The Boz or "Baby Jordan" Harold Minor and overated players. Flops are just that flops - they never really made it big. To be overated you have to have to be good enough to be at least rated but in the minds of some sports fans over rated. In pro sports you also have to throw money into the equation. A good example recently in the news is Danny Neagle, scheduled to make $19M (I think) he has'nt won a game in almost 2 years, overrated you bet. Players like Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson, Vin Baker, and Penny Hardaway come to mind in the NBA. Baseball is loaded with overated/overpriced stars just for starters Bartolo Colon, Mike Hampton, Tom Glavine, Vinny Castillo etc. The NFL and NHL have their share also. The problem with Tiger Woods is his phenomenal success early on has set the bar so high a single ordinary year makes him loook overated and perhaps he is now, but is a guy like Ratief Goosen overated next year if he doesn't win a major? Golf by nature is just wierd. It turned out the Yanks ended up with sevral overated players on thir roster the worst being Jason Giambi who is more overated than Giambi? When you look at what he is being paid and what was expected from him last season was a true diaster for both the Yanks and Giambi with no light at the end of the tunnell.
Just my 2 cents. wil.
