Kathryn Bigelow of The Hurt Locker will win best director. Unfortunately even with James Cameron nominated and the Golden Globe winner, she will still be a heavy price to lay but thats the Oscars for ya..

Bigelow will be the first woman in 82 years to win a best director Oscar. Forget Avatar for Best Pic also, Sci-Fi has never won an Oscar. I recommend you go with Hurt Locker for both director (Bigelow) and best picture, a natural combo.

Jeff Bridges, winless despite 4 nominations finally gets a statue for best actor for the country-music tale "Crazy Heart." - At least Sean Penn is not around this year. Nothing against him as Harvey Milk but he robbed the statue from The Wrestler's Mickey Roarke last year. Sometimes there are some politics involved in these things.

Best supporting actress Mo'Nique in Precious. Not my cup of tea as a flick but this is about gambling on who will win the statue. Go with the nasty mama.

Best Supporting Actor Christoph Waltz of Inglorious Bastards.

For the hell of it:

Best Animated Feature Film: UP

Agree /w all the picks above - seems this year is more lopsided than recent past. I bet a few long shots just for fun:

Best Supporting Actress
Field +650

Best Picture
District9 100/1
Inglourious Basterds 12/1 (think this one has an outside shot)

Took The Hurt Locker -130 & put a little something on Up In the Air at 25/1. I think it could be the dark horse here.

Throwing in The Weary Kind” (from “Crazy Heart”), with music and lyrics by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett for Best Original Song.

Also if you can find a price for Sound editing “Inglourious Basterds.”

Lock of the night besides Christopher Woltz is “The White Ribbon,” for best Foreign Language Film.

My only bet is UP as best animated feature film at -1500 as part of a parlay. I also loved Bigelow for best director but I think the line is too high now

I disagree on that one: "El secreto de sus ojos" is more than just a live dog here. Bet this weeks ago at 16:1, right now something like 5:1 and I can easily picture an upset here.
With Un prophete also in the mix, "The White Ribbon" imo is far from a lock.

I had no idea James Cameron used to be married to Kathryn Bigelow...now they are going up against each other for director of the year..pretty amazing.

There's never a "lock" in the Best Foreign Language Film category ... and the odds have gotten considerably better on that film over the last 2 weeks, not a good sign.

My $4K haircut that I took on Pan's Labyrinth at -600 a few years back is a testament to that ... only losing year I ever had betting on the Oscars ... won every other bet, but that $4K was a tough hole to dig out of.

Generally speaking, betting underdogs late in Oscar betting season is the equivalent of throwing money down the toilet.
