Grienke will be in the mix.

Yeah I think it's between those two. It's very close right now. Arrieta now has the no-no, Greinke had that incredible scoreless streak though, so I think that's a wash.

Really depends on how they both finish.

Arrieta completed a magnificent August, winning all six of his starts, putting up a microscopic 0.43 ERA during the month, with 43 strikeouts and 10 walks in 42⅓ innings.

Arrieta is ahead of Greinke in the cy young voting at the moment in my book.

Arrieta.....17-6 with a 2.11 ERA and the no hitter puts him over the top, plus his team is a contender.

Greinke...14-3 with a 1.61 ERA.

Arrieta is the one to catch.....No wash here bro.

The scoreless streak he had was pretty impressive though. The Dodger's aren't a contender? They're in first place.

LOL you do realize that the Dodgers lead their division, right? So it's retarded to throw the "plus his team is a contender" argument in there when discussing Arrieta vs Greinke.

Wins mean very little.

If anyone's ahead it's Greinke, I was just being a homer by even calling it a wash.

Now if Jake's September looks anything like his August, then he's looking good to win it.

Scoreless streak was only a scoreless streak......He didn`t break any record.

Read the numbers.....Bump this thread at the end of the season.

Jake is a easy Cy Young Award winner....PERIOD!

I forgot about Zach....Zach is the ERA leader.....But Jake has a stellar ERA also....2.09...With 17 wins

Right now you have to go with Zack. Like 11 shutouts, that no run streak, the fact he single handidly won a game earlier in the year by shutting down an opponent and hitting a HR. Keuchel was in the race but don't think he will
make the cut for the top three come late.

I don't know baseball? You just said Greinke doesn't pitch for a contender.

Nice attempt at at "drop the mic" moment though after you got called on it.

You're a fucking clown.

You do realize I'm a Cubs fan right? You do realize I know how awesome Arrieta has been and that I hope he wins every start he ever pitches for the Cubs, right?

I will shut my trap when he wins 20? I'll be the happiest guy on the forum. Yeah, that'll really show me...

I believe Greinke is ahead in the race right now. That is not a slight on Jake.

Go blather to yourself in some weird in-game thread, we were in here talking baseball like gentlemen.

lol, this is a funny back and forth between you two guys. Someone has obviously struck a nerve saying Arieta is not in the lead. If you've not learned yet, market size will also play a part when it comes down to it.

Matter of fact he still has 6 starts left......A whole 6 starts......Who wins 20 games these days???........He will....Guaranteed.

That alone should win you a Cy Young.....Then we throw in the No hitter............And a 2.11 ERA.

I could hardly wait for this award to be presented.....Hurry up!

I will bump this thread everyday for a month.

OK, knowledge and facts?

ERA
Greinke 1.61
Arrieta 2.11

That is a half-run difference. That is huge. For some perspective, the gap between Greinke and Arrieta (ranked 1 and 2 in MLB, respectively) is wider than the gap between Arrietta and Harvey (ranked 2 and 10, respectively).

WHIP
Greinke - 1st in the NL at 0.85
Arrieta - 5th in the NL at 0.94

WAR
Greinke 7.7
Arrieta 5.5

Arrieta has 20 more strikeouts but Greinke is still top 10 and has 13 fewer walks. Greinke's K/BB ratio (5.29) is actually better than Arrieta's (4.32)

Arrieta had a no-hitter, yes.

But Greinke had 45 2/3 inning scoreless streak.

There have been 6 no-hitters this year. Greinke's scoreless streak was the longest since 1968. Which accomplishment is more significant?

Oh plus Greinke's team is in first place in its division, the Cubs are in 3rd and fighting for a wild card.

There's my knowledge. Where's yours?

Guy is just a blowhard.

I'm the biggest Arrieta fan on the board, but he's just wrong. And when I presented an alternate point of view the response was that I didn't know baseball, and to look at the numbers.

Well there are the numbers. Remind me again who doesn't know what they're talking about?

He and Bumgarner will battle for the cy young

Then he was reminded about the guy who had 45 2/3 innings scoreless and leads the league in WAR, ERA, and WHIP.

I forgot about Zach

As soon as he suddenly recalled that the runaway league ERA leader might in fact be in the Cy Young race, he busts out this gem in support of Arrieta.

the no hitter puts him over the top, plus his team is a contender.

That's right folks, now he forgot that the Dodgers are not only a contender, they lead the West by 3.5 games.

When confronted with these facts, we get this

I can`t talk to you.....You don't know baseball.......You`re living in the stone age.....I put this thread in my library.

So apparently I'm living in the stone age. Whatever the fuck that means. Hahahahahaha.

It's all going to come down to the final month .

HC that was the longest scoreless run since 88 not 68.

But nevertheless the scoreless streak is more impressive.

Taking nothing away from the no hitter. Anyone can get hot for 9 innings. But only cyyoung caliber pitchers have ever had a scoreless run that long.

There are many HOFers that have never thrown a no no and many pitchers who had bad careers that did throw no no's.

Every single pitcher in MLB history who had ever had 45 innings of scoreless ball has either won cy youngs or in the HOF or both.

Its honestly close but if the season ended tonight ZG Over JA by a nose.

But since the season is not over yet it could still go either way.
