that figures, I had them too

I would actually enjoy watching a player break a ref's nose after making a horrible game changing call at the end of the game and then having the audacity to penalize the offended player with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when he protests the call

Something has to give, "impact", "high profile" officiating is out of control. They're supposed to be invisible, they're supposed to enhance the flow of the game and prevent someone from gaining an advantage by breaking the rules. The "gaining an advantage" concept no longer exists. Now it's about throwing flags for the sake of throwing flags. They've become the game, they want to be heros (literally), they want to prove how good they are, they want press clippings. There are three teams taking the field every day, and only one never gets punished.

the concept of "gaining an advantage" has to be reintroduced into modern day officiating. Right now officials are creating advantages and disadvantages. It's not supposed to be that way

Couple key third down holds against the Eagles were brutal but still doesn't excuse them from losing like they did.....need Foles back this week....

you're right, they did overcome them and gave themselves a chance to win but still gave it back

but if not for those penalties, maybe they could of afforded making a couple of mistakes.

This play changed the whole game around yesterday. Horrible penalty. No reason to call it. Wasn't illegal at all.

http://www.si.com/nfl/2014/12/14/nfl-roughing-passer-call-seattle-seahawks-san-francisco-49ers

Last year the 49ers got screwed by a similar penalty in a game against the Saints. Game should have been over. Instead refs threw a flag and Saints won. That game cost the 49ers home field in the NFC Championship Game.

Refs have been brutal to San Fran for 2 years. Earlier in the year SF had brutal penalties cost them 2-3 wins.

???? Not sure what the problem is, he got the call right

That looked to me that RGIII was holding the ball in the air past the goal line.

I think Triplette invented a rule there.

Who the heck knows.

Note that on the ensuing kickoff the Giants kicked from the Redskins 40 because of all the penalties, went onside & recovered, and game over.

That call last year in that Saints game was absolute crap. The guy tackled Brees up by his collarbone and they threw a flag because of appearances. Horrible call.

Yes RGIII regained control in mid air, but landed out of bounds, it is just like a pass, he made the right call

that's interesting, where did you hear it's like a pass and subject to the same rules?

never mind, found it

"A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball [with or without contact by an opponent] must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession."

While Griffin did regain possession, his initial bobble made the play fundamentally different than a runner who crosses into the end zone without first fumbling. That instance is a touchdown, and anything that happens afterward is moot. Griffin, however, had the added requirement of maintaining possession through "the process of contacting the ground," and as counterintuitive as that might seem, he clearly did not hit that threshold. With a big assist from replay, Triplette landed on the right call according to the rulebook.

--------------------------

it's something I've never seen before on a running play, never

kinda reminds me of the "tuck rule", another rule nobody knew about or saw called until that one infamous playoff game

My question is if Triplette knew the rule or if he was told the rule by NY when he went for the replay.

here's a video of the sf/seattle championship game, showing tons of horrible calls against the 49ers... blatant calls and no-calls, even on review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UTLJ2s5U0g

and let's not forget the fail mary play against green bay, for whatever reason the seahawks are almost always the beneficiaries... look at how many pass interferences/holds they get away with and then the media kisses their ass and says what a great defense they have

That was such a blatant, bs call on SF yesterday. That crew I believe calls the 2nd most penalties in the NFL. I think they need some sort of replay on those 15-yd penalties.

I think the calls last night in the Cowboys / Eagles game greatly influenced the outcome of the game. They kept drives alive for the Cowboys on multiple occasions

Yep. The refs and the league ae both disgraceful...really is unwatchable football these days. And you're right, these announcers are all in on it.

dont give me this shit. Seahawks are the most penalized team in football by a large margin, they're not getting away with shit, bad calls happen both ways, and they've had game deciding calls go against them as well, kc last play of the game in the end zone for the win blatant pass interference, no call, refs give kc the win, seattle gets the consolation we made a bad call phonecall from the nfl a call us hawk fans are all too used to getting. If you wanna go back in time and talk about the fail mary then i'll match your way back machine and go superbowl vs the stealers and how that was officiated but if you want to stay more recent last season the hawks would've swept the niners but the niners win by 2 aided by a bullshit change of call by the officials to make it a non reviewable play on a crabtree fumble, they keep the ball, and score 3, and there's an L instead of a W. Hell the 9ers hawks first match up, 9ers racked up a pathetic 160ish yards and gifted 100 yards on penatlies, 14 to 3, are you kidding me and they still lost... Watch the hawks week in week out and you see how many ticky tack calls go against them how much is let go for teams against them. The call yesterday was a bad call, I won't deny that but the 9ers hadn't generated shit all the 2nd half and one bad call is the reason for that????? how about getting more than 70 yards in the 2nd half instead of saying one call changed everything, the calls I mentioned were late in the game, 9ers had loads of time to make up for that bad call, how about balling a little bit?. media doesn't kiss seattles ass at all, if anything they're shit on by the east coast media who cant be bothered to spend time on the hawks happy to push discontent stories and what Lynch is saying or isnt saying. They're called a great defense cause they are a great defense, look at the stats and look at the direction the leagues goin with offenses breaking records year after year and tell me they're not the best defense in the league. Sounds like bitter 9er fan or bitter losing bettor garbage.

Wtf does any of that have to do with that bad call at the end of the game? I'm only referring to that one call, not the history of call that have gone against Seattle.

NFL head of officials, today, stated referee Ed Hochuli missed the call, the defensive player made the correct form tackle and should not have been penalized

I think it was Boldin that said the NFL had sent them letters of apology for calls in like 4 of their first 6 games. Huge calls that played a big part in the outcome. Anquan Boldin had a pissed off quote about it saying thanks but it doesn't help after the fact.
