Believe me, the Boardwalk is about ten steps ahead of the old Circus Circus and maybe a step ahead of the current one. I have a buddy that is in Vegas every year and he loves that damn place so I get "exposed" to it once a year.

The old CC buffet was so bad that the best thing you could get from it for breakfast was Captain Crunch...well as long as the milk wasn't bad! It was the sorriest excuse for a buffet anyone had ever had. Now it is just plain bad, not horrible.

Stayed at the Western a few years ago for 7 straight nights in their famous $16 rooms. Actually I think they were over-priced at that.
Looked straight ahead and gambled mostly elsewhere and ate completely elsewhere. Don't remember any buffett or any place else to eat for that matter. I think most people just jimmied the candy machine until it was empty.

What are you talking about man? What "area" are you referring to? The last time I was out there, I stayed at the Strato and I went to the 7-11 behind the hotel to buy some bottled water. The guy was out there sweeping with nobody around. This was in the middle of the night. If you're talking about on Las Vegas Blvd. north of Strato, it's all nudie bars and hotels. You might see a few people hanging out but nothing you would need to worry about.

By the way, try the Benihana clone place inside the Strato near the back of the hotel. They have really good teriyaki and japanese food if you like that stuff.

jusr got back from vegas a couple of weeks ago. this was my second time out there in the last 5 years. the first time out i stayed at caesars palace. this time we stayed at the stratosphere. needless to say my buddies and i have decided that the next time we go we will stay at either caesars or some where else centrally located on the strip. i must say that we were out walking late at night, there were a bunch of others out and about at this time also. i didnt feel freightened, but the clientele isnt all that great. the hotel was not the best, if you compare to others. overall i would have to say that i didnt spend much time their since we were bettin out asses off on the tourney at other places. the sportsbook is atrocious at the strat. cheap and their is a reason that it is cheap.

A burning towel brought firefighters rushing this afternoon to the Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
The fire, which broke out on the ninth floor of the Las Vegas Strip property at 2000 Las Vegas Boulevard South, created very light smoke on the that floor, but no other floors, said Timothy R. Szymanski, public education and information officer for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.
Szymanski said no one was injured.
Only a few rooms on the ninth floor were evacuated, he said.
No other information was immediately available.

Isn't this the hotel where are the Mexican gangbangers come to stay?

Kinda reminds me of this place...

I didn't mind it too much, and it wasn't bad for the price. Definitely better than the Sahara. The only weird thing was that once they tried to sick me with a $100 phone bill that wasn't mine and it took me a half hour to straighten it out, and another time housekeeping knocked on my door 5 different times in one day doing a room check. But that may have just been a one time thing.

You must have not eaten at Boardwalk: unchallenged worst in Nevada or anywhere else I have beeen actually.

Hold on there a minute with your " unchallenged worst in Las Vegas " comment ! You apparently haven't ever dined at the old Bourbon Street which was right down the street from the Barbary Coast on Flamingo st. They had this add up on their billboard of " Steak and Lobster $ 7.77 ". One day as I was strolling by in the area I thought " Why not, how can I go wrong ? " . WOW ! I soon found out how things could go wrong and in a hurry ! It was the worst meal I have ever tried to eat and I spent some time at Lackland Air Force Base back in the early 60's. As for the Stratosphere I would say stay away as it sits kinda by itself and I would never consider it as part of the strip. It's old and smelly and listen to the locals like Green Doberman, Fishhead and myself who have lived here in the past or still live here. Like Doberman said the area behind the place to the West is still known as the Naked City area and I have had to deliver RX type drugs to some of the residents there and I always lock my doors as I usually have controlled drugs in my Van and I can see them looking me over very closely. These are not my favorite deliveries. When Redeye and I checked in this dump 15 or 20 years ago it was called Vegas World and they didn't even have a Sports Book back then. We quickly got our $$ back and stayed elsewhere !

Whatever happened to Bourbon Street?

Edit: I just searched and found out it was imploded and there is nothing scheduled to be built there.

The nicest thing about the Stratosphere are the rides on the top.

if you leave the hotel
use the front door
DO NOT turn left!! The strip is to the right (south). crime area is in the rear and to the left also.

That area is called Naked City and is a war zone after dark. @)
