I think people are naturally racist and xenophobic in the regard that we naturally tend to identify with those most like us and therefore exclude a higher percentage of people who are not like us. Once we evolve our intellect enough we realize that there are people of other races that are more like us than some of those who have the same color skin that we have.

Bad analogy. NBC wasn't broadcasting anything racist.

BET Channel (Black Entertainment TV) is geared primarily towards
blacks. Can we logically conclude BET is comprised of all racists?
Nope.

BET is owned by white people who exploit black people.they put shows on there that make black people fit every stereotype there is.:drink:

In events where just about every single match was televised, NBC purposely did not show certain nations.

A specific example, boxing where they showed nearly every bout up to the finals and then showed the finals except for Sarsekbayev of Kazakhstan.

They showed the US and its allies and would frequently interview participants afterwards from foreign countries like Ireland and England. However, they would never interview anyone from any of the Russian Federation or its former republics. And they did use interpreters for other participants from nations such as China or Ghana, so that is not an excuse.

i did see a russian girl get interviewed at gymnastics

One thing that hasnt changed is the East coast network jews not caring about the West coast at all. See the Sec contract with CBS. See the NFL canceling games after 911 but making Sandiego Chargers move to Arizona to play while there town was burning down. They cry primetime for the Olympics, SoCal girls Misty and KEri play at 7 but we have to wait until 1130pm to get to see them.

Maybe because California is not part of the U.S.

Of course, the Olympics promotes nationalism and in turn xenophobia. If anyone thinks that this is not a causal effect, look at any number of far right nationalistic political parties (National Front, Vlaams Blok, etc.)

Being nationalistic does not logically imply xenophobia.

Being nationalistic does not cause xenophobia.

Not automatically, but I doubt a book would give you a nationalistic/xenophobic two-team parlay. In other words, they are correlated. To what extent is the correlation? Hard to say, as it likely varies from place to place.

Good contribution Hines. Glad to see someone getting the focal point of the topic.:103631605

Interesting and somewhat related topic, I would categorize this as xenophobic:

LPGA to require English for intl players

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—The LPGA Tour boasts players from all over the world, and it wants all of them to be able to speak English.
The LPGA will require players to speak English starting in 2009, with players who have been LPGA members for two years facing suspension if they can’t pass an oral evaluation of English skills. The rule is effective immediately for new players.
“Why now? Athletes now have more responsibilities and we want to help their professional development,” deputy commissioner Libba Galloway told The Associated Press. “There are more fans, more media and more sponsors. We want to help our athletes as best we can succeed off the golf course as well as on it.”
The tour held a mandatory meeting with South Koreans last Wednesday at the Safeway Classic to inform them of the new policy, which was first reported by Golfweek magazine. There is no such rule on the PGA Tour.

There are 121 international players from 26 countries on the LPGA Tour, including 45 players from South Korea.
The South Koreans were informed of the rule, however LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens has not given them—or anyone—a written explanation, Galloway said.
But the message already appears to be lost in translation. The magazine said every South Korean player it interviewed believed she would lose her card—not be suspended—if she failed the English evaluation.
Angela Park, born in Brazil of South Korean heritage and raised in the United States, said the policy is fair and good for the tour and its international players.
“A lot of Korean players think they are being targeted, but it’s just because there are so many of them,” Park told the magazine.
Galloway said the LPGA is a “global tour and is not targeting any specific player or country.”
Seon-Hwa Lee, the only Asian with multiple victories this year, said she works with an English tutor in the winter. Her ability to answer questions without the help of a translator has improved in her short time on tour.
“The economy is bad, and we are losing sponsors,” Lee said. “Everybody understands.”
The policy was endorsed by at least one tournament director, Kate Peters of the LPGA State Farm Classic.
“This is an American tour,” Peters said. “It is important for sponsors to be able to interact with players and have a positive experience.”
Galloway denied the move was based on sponsors and said interest in the tour has never been stronger.
“We are connecting with fans and sponsors like never before,” she said. “But we want things to continue to get better, to continue to grow.”

I wasn't totally clear earlier. Being nationalistic does not mean you will be xenophobic. But in virtually every instance, xenophobia is preceded by nationalism. That is, to have xenophobia, nationalism is almost always a prerequisite.

I don't know Dobe. I personally didn't see it myself and for the most part boxing isn't a glamorous sport as far as the non-sports fans are concerned. After Track and field, gymnastics, volleyball and basketball all of the other sports get the crumbs. I know that Universal (Which is an HD only channel) had a lions share of the boxing live or repeated it so maybe that would be their response if you asked them about NBC's coverage.
