Doberman is 100% right!..Who cares?..I do and thousands of other "open minded" individuals..Problem with Doberman, is sometimes he is a little too educated for most on this forum..So they misinterpret his intentions..

Who the fuck is bitching..the guy has a valid point..

I did not need 5 channels with ping pong while the USA men`s volleyball team pulled one hell of an upset capturing the gold either..

Subversive racism is sometimes missed by those without a discerning eye.

There was no argument that American athletes were shown more than others on American TV. That was a given, just like preferential treatment was shown on Indian and Canadian networks. That in itself is certainly ethnic discrimination in the form of nationalism. That is accepted on this level because it is just doing smart business so to speak.

You will notice in both examples I provided there was zero American influence and I specifically cited those as the fact the US was not involved.

That point was missed entirely by the other side.

It was covered in the original post that they made decisions with business in mind. For example, showing the men's basketball game on four different channels and repeatedly playing it.

Were I to open a store and sell gasoline, matches, wooden crosses and white sheets it would be a legitimate business but nonetheless racist.

Bad analogy. NBC wasn't broadcasting anything racist.

BET Channel (Black Entertainment TV) is geared primarily towards
blacks. Can we logically conclude BET is comprised of all racists?
Nope.

I would say that BET is discriminatory just like the LOGO network is discriminatory towards straight people.

Going by the second definition I would definitely answer Yes:

At least festering zit is making some decent points and counter arguments.

Most assume when talking about racism that it was a black/white thing, when in fact that was not the point at all.

Racism does not have to overt and in your face, it can be discriminatory in nature and quite subtle.

I disagree 100%.

And, your definition doesn't support your argument. Racism is when
you "inherently" believe one race is better than another. Racial
discrimination is where you use that belief to discriminate against
a race.

BET choosing to have a TV channel geared towards blacks isn't
either. NBC choosing to show events that will gain ratings
that will meet their needs isn't either.

You've bought into too much "Politically Correct" BS.

FZ,
If I changed the title from racist to discriminatory would you still disagree?

Sure, as long as you didn't say it was racial discrimination, which
many people will assume if you say discrimination.

NBC is discriminating against events they don't think will
get good ratings... but TV stations do that all day long
every day. Every TV news station makes decisions all day long
on segments to show, depending somewhat on the ratings/interest
it will get.

I don't know how you equate xenophobia with showing what you think is going to get you the best ratings and of course they are going to show many more events from the country they are broadcasting to.

They certainly didn't discriminate against black, asian or hispanic athletes.

Let me ask you a question, did NBC have a link on their website to watch the event on the internet?

I'll substitute racial discrimination for ethnic discrimination.

I'm taking the United States events completely out of the equation. That is acceptable business practices that they will show "our" athletes.

I'm discussing events where they showed nearly every match/bout/heat, yet somehow failed to show one of two of them. I'd have to do a minute by minute analysis of the countries involved and the events in order to provide factual evidence.

I did not watch every event, but the one I followed closely they managed to show every final except two. One they showed clips and snippets of (heavyweights involving an Italian and a Russian), the other they simply flashed up who won (involving a Kazakhstani and a Cuban). I simply wonder what their motivation was for not showing these individual bouts. Certainly it couldn't be ratings, since those that wanted to watch the boxing finals would want to watch either just their country (at that point the US was long gone) or all of the bouts. Time constraints could be argued as the reason, but considering there was about a 14 hour delay in airing the fights as well as them showing a fight where one fighter retired (a far less appealing bout than the two they skipped), I just scratched my head at the reasoning.

Know that this is just one example, and I'm sure there are others but it is the one I am most familiar with.

Just curious what would be the reasoning why they would exclude one or two particular events when they had basically shown the entire tournament in its entirety.

Kenny,
No unfortunately they did not show the boxing on the internet. Other countries did but when we were searching to watch it, most of them were blocking my ip address.

The finals started around 10pm West Coast time, they aired them on TV at around Noon on Sunday.

Those that were watching (and had bets on them) could simply scoreboard watch online in the US.

Why they would not air it on the internet live is beyond me.

Aside from the racism angle, I watched about 10 Olympics and this by far was the worst one ever televised. I fucking missed everything out here in the west coast. I wanted to see the US Womens soccer final... missed it couldn't find it, same with the men's. I saw Bolt's 100 and 200 15 hours later. Nothing live.

To top it off, I was watching the Colts/Bills preseason game on Sunday night. I switched the channel and low and behold there is Jimmy Page trying to break a hip and some thick kneed chick warbling out Whole Lot of Lard! It was the fucking closing ceremonies, I didnt even know it!

NBC mucked up the whole thing, racism was just a microcosim of the travesty that was the 2008 Olympics. Show the shit live or don't show it at all. I'd rather watch an event at 3:30 am LIVE rather than a 15 hour warmed over piece of crap that you already know the results of. Nothing was live on the West coast, nothing

I think people are naturally racist and xenophobic in the regard that we naturally tend to identify with those most like us and therefore exclude a higher percentage of people who are not like us. Once we evolve our intellect enough we realize that there are people of other races that are more like us than some of those who have the same color skin that we have.
