NBC's coverage of the Olympics was racist

From a purely academic point of view, the institutional racism and xenophobia presented in its coverage of the Olympics marks NBC as racist and discriminatory. Obviously as an American network their slant would be biased towards the home country and as a media outlet whose primary goal is ratings, they will argue that they were serving their own best interests. However from a sociological point of view it is clear that certain nations were given preferential treatment, a clear indicator of ethnic discrimination and institutional racism. Whether it be NBC's xenophobia and enthnocentrism, an agenda driven telecast from the "powers that be", or outright incompetence, the signs are clear as day that their was a pointed, direct agenda of racism

Could you be more specific? What nations were given "preferential treatment" and in what way?

In events where just about every single match was televised, NBC purposely did not show certain nations.

A specific example, boxing where they showed nearly every bout up to the finals and then showed the finals except for Sarsekbayev of Kazakhstan.

They showed the US and its allies and would frequently interview participants afterwards from foreign countries like Ireland and England. However, they would never interview anyone from any of the Russian Federation or its former republics. And they did use interpreters for other participants from nations such as China or Ghana, so that is not an excuse.

No, but I bet on Sarsekbayev and won the future at +1250. So I did want to watch him win the gold medal.

Michael Phelps interests the target audience a lot more than Sarsekbayev of Kazakhstan.

Reread if you have trouble understanding.

Was Michael Phelps racing any time during the boxing finals, no.

Did they show every other match except that one, yes.

What is the valid reasoning behind it.

No, technically he is Asian.

But you bring up a good point, the entire US basketball team was black.

Perhaps it was reverse racism.

Not bitching, providing an example. Reread the original post and refute it if you care to share.

It was covered in the original post that they made decisions with business in mind. For example, showing the men's basketball game on four different channels and repeatedly playing it.

Were I to open a store and sell gasoline, matches, wooden crosses and white sheets it would be a legitimate business but nonetheless racist.

Again that was just one isolated example when asked to provide one, not the point of the initial post.

They showed what they thought would get the best ratings. This has to be one of the most ridiculous threads I have seen.
