i still have the original droid from when it first came out and am tethering for free on my laptop and home tower. I am afraid if I upgade to a newer phone I will not have that option as this is my only way of internet service. I refuse to pay verizons crazy tethering charge and I am still pretty happy with the phone even though it has slowed down quite a bit since the start

in2win.. all the droids are rootable and tethering is free by rooting them.. also there is a few apps in the market (which u can get for free on http://applanet.net and download THAT market) that will also tether when NOT rooted (example pdanet)

all are good - thunderbolt is probably the closest to the Evo i'd think, it's also a rarity as far as Verizon goes in that it can do data and talk at the same time

u can hear the audio for games for free on a droid phone..signup on mlb.tv for a free account and use that to login if they ask for login info.. the app is free in the store.. but if u ever want a paid app all u gotta do is goto http://applanet.net and download and install that store app and u have 90% of all apps free. ENJOY

i have an mlb.tv account so i am getting rid of my blackberry so i can switch to a droid to watch the games, the PSN network is down so i cant watch the games anymore..

and yes i heard about the rooting/routing feature whatever you call it, i will check back in on the boards once i get my phone and need help..

so atrix for ATT, sprint evo, verizon incredible, x, thunderbolt, and tmobile the g2x...

those are the best phones for each carrier right?

im glad your holding out for the top of the line phone that just comes out.... your a RX mod for god sakes you would not be COOL if you did not have the most newest phone to hit the market... and you have got to stay COOL!!!!

Well I was in the Verizon store the other day, just to check out the thunderbolt again and ask some questions.
I like it, but might just wait until the 2nd generation ... if it comes out ??

I did get to see in person the New Droid Charge by samsung. It's the next 4G for verizon. Thought it was a little nicer than the Thunderbolt... But Don't remember which was better as far as which had what... but I believe that the Thunderbolt was a little stronger.

If I found out that the 2nd Generation of the Thunderbolt was going to come out shortly ... I might wait for that. In the mean time, I'm sure 2 or 3 more will come out. :ohno:

One of the reasons I want the Thunderbolt. It's Hotspot and that I can use up to 5 wireless devices to work from there.

You don't see "generations" with Android phones much... just new models. It does happen, but not in the same way the iphone gets upgraded. With Android it's more about hackability, which generally means you want a phone with strong hardware and an even stronger community. Certain phones have more roms (or, interfaces) than others because their communities are larger. There's a reason why my phone is running v2.3.3 when many others just got upgraded to 2.2

Still not 4G, and does your Droid allow simultaneous talking and Internet access ??
@)
this isnt possible with any phone ever on verizon that im aware of.. having cdma limits this.. u would have to be on at&t to access this feature.

even the verizon iphone wont do it. its just because cdma limits it.. I believe even 4G LTE wont allow this.. its still cdma phone service.

I am not an expert on this subject.. but these are my understandings.
