I think a much bigger deal is being made out of this than what is really there. Aside from the kiss that we see every week on TV/movies anyway, I really believe his being gay didn't have much to do with the round that he went in. My bet is with him being undersize and slow, his gayness most likely didn't make more than one round of difference, if that. I think too many are still hung up on the college game equating to the pro game. It simply doesn't. Sam was a great college player. Tebow was a great college player. But we're talking about two different games. And one of them has a superstar at every position. If you get down to the nitty gritty with Sam's stats, besides the relatively poor combine showing, the bulk of his production during the season came against the weaker teams. Don't think the NFL isn't looking at the same numbers. Their probably thinking he's not athletic enough to play OLB, and he would be an undersized DE. Like I said, way too much emphasis is being put on this topic, and I kind of get it. But they really aren't doing this kid any favors by all of the coverage. But progress is always made slowly when it comes to social issues. People probably won't bat an eye at this kind of thing 10 years from now.
And how many players kissed their girlfriends? Your trying to equate it as something different when it really isn't.To say they aren't "doing this kid any favors" is being naive. He knew exactly what he was doing when he kissed his BF on TV. If his NFL career fails, which it likely will, he is set for awhile doing public speaking and showing up on a few red carpets, etc....
I don't think it is a huge issue, but I'd prefer not to see guys making out on TV....

You really don't think that was calculuated at all and just spur of the moment? He cameout as gay months ago, he has handlers who are choreographing his every move.
Obviously it was going to cause a huge stir, you don't need to be a genius to figure that out. If all he wanted to do was play in the NFL then he would've limited the draft day spectacle and went to camp and tried to perform. Like I said, it is 2014 and I doubt his teammates care about his lifestyle much but they don't exactly wanna see it on display.
I guarantee you every kiss that was made on ESPN this weekend was calculated or planned or they wouldn't have had their girlfriends there. And every player has handlers/agents that are calculating their every move. That's the life of an NFL recruit. Especially one that was Defensive Player Of The Year in the best conference in college football. The only problem with him coming out before the NFL draft is of course the risk that he may go lower in the draft. But it is also somewhat of a risk for the NFL team drafting him, because now if he can't perform to expectations and gets cut, the blame will start rolling in that they cut him because he's gay. The Rams saved the NFL a big PR problem if the defensive player of the year hadn't been drafted., But they may now have a problem of their own if things don't work out. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. Like I said, this is a much different game. Jackson Jeffcoat was named Defensive Player Of The Year in the Big 12 and wasn't even drafted. Which should tell everybody right there that this isn't "a gay thing"You really don't think that was calculuated at all and just spur of the moment? He cameout as gay months ago, he has handlers who are choreographing his every move.
