Michael Sam is starting to look and sound like a man who might not be drafted

I must be missing something… how is the SEC defensive player of the year a 7th round pick?

Duh, because he is gay is the only logical answer. Just like the only reason there is not a black player on the St. Louis Cardinals is because they are racist.

While I watched my beloved blazers attempt to play the Spurs last night on ESPN, virtually the only news on the ESPN ticker was how excited everyone in the world was about the drafting of an openly gay player...carefully worded statements by team owner, famous people's comments, etc. Even Obama took time out from stating that the kidnapping of 200 girls in Africa was indeed a bad thing to express his PC feelings about how great it was that a gay was drafted.

Pretty sure bet he won't be on the punt return team unless they change the safe word.

Very possible. This story is everywhere, tired of this shit, i want to see some Os magic highlights, not some gay football player drafted in the last round.

They all most blew it vs Houston last night

How bout a shitty combine? Or, maybe he just isn't that good.

Fine, but everyone would have you believe that every player in the SEC is better than in every conference ever, bar fucking none. I was wondering how a guy in the mighty SEC is POY, is only a 7th round pick.

I know he came out to teammates a year ago but how obvious would it be to see this 260 pound defensive end whose always hanging around this emo looking white kid. Everyone knows blacks (especially athletes) hang out with only blacks. I bet Michael Sam is somehow the bottom. Hahahaha. Notice none of Sam's family were around?

there's always a victim, always an injustice in their world

maybe the only reason he was drafted is because he's gay

I'm no scout, and I don't recall watching him play, but it's not like the scouts were high on him.

and from what I saw on the tape, he's slower than most with the absolute worst vertical leap by far. That speaks towards athleticism

Because most rational owners don't want that in the locker room. Why would you gamble on having it poison the team. Coming out cost him from being picked up in round 2

Player of the year is a little different in football. I mean the guy that plays his exact position went #1 overall and has been described as a once a decade talent. Guys like Eric Crouch win the Heisman. Guys like Peyton and Andrew Luck don't.

as for the story itself, I can't believe it's received so much press. One ESPN analyst went so far as to say "the whole world is watching". Really? I didn't even give it a second thought and sports is the second most important thing in my world, trailing only people. (OK, maybe good food gives it a good run for 2nd)

To me, it's just another man pursuing his dreams, nothing more and nothing less. He was drafted, one thousand others were disappointed.

Good luck to him

I am not talking about him being gay. I am talking about him being a 5th rounder at best if he isn't gay.

You summed it perfectly.

The story that should received more press is that corner from Lindenwood from Haiti. Due to scholarship issues and all, was working 3 jobs including working with raw sewage. That stuff is more inspirational than a 260 pound practice squad player getting mounted by a white emo looking kid. The Lindenwood kid will actually be playing.

Hate to say it, but I wonder if Mr. Goodell made a call and sold the nice pr story to the Rams taking him and avoiding the immediate ?s from the media and gay community about why he wasn't drafted.

Yea that is what I was thinking as well....... but either way the media reaction to this is just absurd.

I live in the middle of SEC Country, and grad from an SEC school, and I don't feel that way. Same can be said for BIG 12 folks, and Texas had Zip drafted. I'm honestly surprised he got a D1 scholie to begin with as the numbers he put up at the combine aren't that worthy of one. I could careless if he's gay, but that is most likely the reason he was drafted. Maybe he has a chance at a Practice Squad, which means it was a wasted draft pick IMO...

And who cares if he's was SEC POY , he can't hold Clowney or Robinson's jock strap. And like someone stated, look at some of the shitty players that have won The Heisman...

I think his sexual orientation probably played some part in his fall. If he was more talented I don't think a team would have a problem taking him much higher. With or without the announcement he was a 5th round prospect at best and with the poor combine that even seemed to high. If a professional male athlete is going to come football is the best sport for it. Players are stereo typed as dumb jocks but having the college requirements in place makes them more liberal then say professional baseball players. There willbe a few players who don't like him for that single reason but the overwhelming majority of the locker room won't care, especially if he is a guy that they see who can help them win. Once the season starts this will be a non issue.
