IMO the BIGGEST reason for the optimism (this goes for other teams as well) is that the Birds didn't begin to really hit their stride until the changes that were made after the Pittsburgh game. The defense has been totally reinvented with the changes that were made on the defensive line and at linebacker.
Keeping in mind that we just beat the living daylights out of Green Bay WITHOUT 2/5 OF OUR STARTING OFFENSIVE LINE...I'd say the birds are starting to play their best football at the right time. They haven't even played 60 minutes of error free football yet!
#1 scoring defense in the NFL. The bend but don't break Jim Johnson defense is #1 where it matters most. They will give up yards...but they will not give up points. As far as whether or not points matter...well there are some AFC folks that don't seem to think so.
